He charged.
The scream of Chidori followed him across the flooded training ground, blue-white light reflecting from every puddle beneath his feet. Sasuke's Sharingan remained fixed on Naruto's shoulders and hands, three tomoe spinning in his left eye as he waited for the slightest indication of a dodge.
Naruto didn't move.
Thirty feet.
Twenty-five.
Twenty.
Sasuke accelerated.
Naruto's hands came together.
Wind screamed.
Sasuke's Sharingan caught the chakra gathering before the technique fully formed, and his eyes immediately searched Naruto's posture for the firing angle. His body shifted left, already preparing to adjust around a shot aimed for his torso.
Then Naruto pointed at the ground.
Sasuke's eyes widened.
"Rail Pierce!"
The compressed lance tore into the earth twelve feet in front of Sasuke.
BOOM!
Mud, stone and water detonated upward.
The ground didn't crack so much as disappear, a deep trench ripping diagonally across Sasuke's path. His Sharingan saw the destruction happen perfectly; it showed him the earth collapsing, the stones spinning through the air, and the exact instant his next footstep would land on nothing.
None of that gave him somewhere else to put his foot.
Sasuke's right leg plunged into the collapsing trench.
His body pitched forward, a surprised grunt marring his usual cool demeanor.
The Chidori carved a wild streak through the air as Sasuke twisted desperately away from his own technique. His concentration broke when his palm struck the ground, lightning bursting outward in several violent arcs before the mass of chakra destabilized and fizzled from his hand.
He rolled twice through the mud.
Naruto was already moving.
Sasuke forced his head up just in time to see a sandal plant beside his face.
Naruto's fist stopped inches from his temple.
Sasuke stared at it.
The last strands of lightning died between his fingers.
For several seconds, neither spoke.
Then Naruto lowered his fist.
"Done."
Sasuke's fingers dug into the mud.
"Get off me."
Naruto stepped away.
Sasuke pushed himself upright, soaked, muddy and breathing hard enough that every inhale pulled at his ribs. His Sharingan remained active as he stared at the trench Rail Pierce had carved across the field.
Naruto hadn't even aimed at him.
That somehow made it worse.
"You could've hit me."
Naruto looked at him.
"Yeah."
"And you didn't."
"No shit."
Sasuke's jaw clenched.
"Stop treating me like I'm fucking fragile."
Naruto's patience finally snapped.
"I just spent the last half hour beating your ass!"
Sasuke went still.
Naruto pointed at the ruined field.
"You wanted taijutsu, we did taijutsu. You wanted ninja tools, we used ninja tools. You started throwing fire at me, so I drowned half the fucking training ground. Then you tried to hit me with CHIDORI!"
"You told me to fight!"
"I told you to spar!"
"What's the difference?"
"THE PART WHERE WE DON'T FUCKING KILL EACH OTHER!"
A voice came from behind them.
"I'd actually like to emphasize that last part."
Both boys froze.
Slowly—
They turned.
Kakashi stood on the remains of a tree branch overlooking what used to be Training Ground Seven.
His book was nowhere in sight.
That was bad.
His visible eye moved across the field.
Flooded grass.
Scorched trees.
A Cyclone had torn apart most of the western edge.
Rail Pierce had carved a trench through the center.
Steam still drifted through the air.
Kakashi looked at Sasuke's hand.
Then Naruto's.
Then back at the trench.
"Chidori."
Neither answered.
"Rail Pierce."
Naruto lifted one finger.
"In my defense—"
"No."
Naruto lowered it.
Kakashi dropped from the branch.
"I leave you two unsupervised for one afternoon. Did our training really amount to so little Sasuke?"
Disappointment tainted Kakashi's words, Sasuke was unable to meet his eyes in response, teeth gritting harder than they had any right to.
"We started with taijutsu," Naruto said.
Kakashi looked around.
"That somehow makes this worse."
"Sasuke started the ninjutsu."
"Naruto."
"He did!"
Sasuke folded his arms.
"He pulled a punch."
Kakashi slowly looked at him.
"And naturally the appropriate response to that was an assassination technique."
Sasuke looked down.
Naruto pointed triumphantly.
"See!"
Kakashi's eye shifted toward him.
"You fired a technique that bored through a partial Bijū transformation."
Naruto's finger slowly lowered.
"I shot the ground."
"You created a trench large enough to bury both of you."
"Tactical ground."
Kakashi stared at him.
Naruto shut up.
"Good."
Kakashi's attention returned to Sasuke.
The irritation disappeared from his face.
"Sasuke."
"What?"
"Your neck."
Sasuke stiffened.
Naruto's eyes went there too.
The edge of Sasuke's shirt had shifted during the fight.
Black lines surrounded the Curse Mark.
Not the Curse Mark itself.
The seal around it.
Kakashi's seal.
Several of the characters were distorted.
One containment line had split completely.
Another had faded until Naruto could barely distinguish it against Sasuke's skin.
Kakashi stepped closer.
"Turn around."
"It's fine."
"It isn't."
Sasuke's jaw tightened.
Kakashi didn't argue.
He just waited.
Eventually Sasuke turned.
Kakashi pulled the collar aside.
Naruto walked closer.
"Was it like that before?"
"No."
Kakashi traced one broken section without touching it.
"It had degraded slightly after the Gaara fight. Not this much."
Sasuke looked over his shoulder.
"It still works."
"Poorly."
Naruto crouched.
Now that he knew what he was looking at, the damage became obvious.
The original containment matrix was being attacked from inside.
Not physically.
Chakra pressure.
Every time Sasuke activated the Curse Mark, foreign chakra pushed outward through the same pathways. Kakashi's seal forced it back, Sasuke forced more through, and the resulting pressure had slowly warped the formula.
Naruto's eyes narrowed.
Something translucent appeared beside Sasuke.

Naruto's eyes lingered on the numbers.
Sasuke had gotten stronger.
A lot stronger.
Especially faster.
The Sharingan had grown too.
That explained how he'd kept Naruto working during the fight despite the physical gap between them.
Then the next window opened.
Red.

Naruto's stomach dropped.
Nearly half.
Negative emotional fixation—
Forty-eight percent.
He looked at Sasuke.
The anger suddenly made a lot more sense.
Not all of it.
Enough.
"Sasuke."
"What?"
"How often have you been using this thing?"
Sasuke's expression closed.
"Training."
"That's not what I asked."
"It makes me stronger."
Kakashi's voice sharpened.
"Sasuke."
The Uchiha looked away.
Naruto leaned closer.
And the earrings moved.
The small dark beads swung forward.
Naruto froze.
Something crawled across the back of his neck.
His senses opened.
Not completely.
Just enough.
The air around them suddenly felt deeper.
The grass beneath his feet carried something faint and quiet. The trees surrounding the ruined field felt almost warm, their presence bleeding into an enormous background Naruto couldn't properly understand.
Natural Energy.
He'd felt traces of it since putting on the earrings.
This was different.
Sasuke's neck felt like a rotting hole punched through all of it.
Naruto recoiled.
"What the fuck?"
Kakashi immediately looked at him.
"What?"
Naruto didn't answer.
His hand went to one earring.
The sensation intensified.
Something dark twisted beneath Kakashi's seal.
Natural Energy—
But wrong.
Violently wrong.
It wasn't the simple malice Naruto associated with killing intent.
It wasn't the Nine-Tails either.
The fox's chakra was furious, crushing, hot enough that Naruto sometimes felt like it wanted to burn its way out through his bones.
This was colder.
Foreign.
Something about the Curse Mark took Natural Energy and twisted it together with Orochimaru's chakra until Naruto's instincts screamed at him that it didn't belong inside a human body.
Naruto backed away half a step.
"Sasuke."
"What now?"
"That thing is fucking evil."
Sasuke's expression darkened.
"Very helpful."
"No. I mean—"
Naruto searched for the words, ultimately deciding on keeping his knowledge to himself. Explaining his sudden knowledge of an ancient form of chakra that existed since the sage of six paths was bordering on unbelievable.
Naruto touched his earrings absentmindedly.
Naruto crouched again.
This time he didn't focus on Sasuke.
He focused on the seal.
The formulas began separating in his mind.
Containment.
Restriction.
Chakra suppression.
Will-dependent reinforcement.
Kakashi's work was good.
Really good.
Naruto could see that now.
Months ago, most of it would've looked impossibly advanced.
Now—
He could see the flaw.
"It fights him."
Kakashi looked down.
"What?"
"The seal."
Naruto pointed.
"Every time that thing pushes out, your seal pushes it back through the same lines."
"That's the purpose."
"Yeah, but Sasuke keeps activating it anyway."
Sasuke folded his arms.
Naruto ignored him.
"So it's like..."
He searched for a comparison.
"Putting a stronger lid on a boiling pot."
Kakashi's eye sharpened.
Naruto traced one broken line.
"The lid works fine until you decide to cook something, and leave it unchecked. In this case we've let it go too long unchecked. ."
Kakashi crouched beside him.
"What would you change?"
Naruto stared.
"You're asking me?"
"You're the seal specialist."
Naruto's mouth opened.
Closed.
Then slowly—
A grin appeared.
Sasuke sighed.
"I'm leaving."
Kakashi's hand gripped his dark haired student's shoulder, his grip creaking with strain. Sasuke grimaced in pain. The message was clear.
Naruto looked again.
And remembered sand.
Shukaku.
The tea-kettle sealing principles the System had uploaded after the fight.
Suna's technique hadn't been designed merely to suppress a Bijū.
It contained something enormous inside something comparatively fragile.
Pressure couldn't simply be resisted.
It had to be distributed.
Routed.
Separated.
Naruto's eyes widened.
"Oh."
Kakashi knew that sound.
"What?"
Naruto reached into his pouch.
"I think I can fix it."
Sasuke immediately turned.
"No."
Naruto stopped.
"What?"
"I don't need another seal."
"Dude, the current one is breaking."
"I can control it."
"You tried to Chidori me because I didn't punch you hard enough."
Silence.
Kakashi looked between them.
Naruto raised his eyebrows.
Sasuke's mouth tightened.
"...Fine."
"Great."
"But if you fuck it up—"
"I'll blame Kakashi."
"Why me?"
"You're supervising."
"I regret teaching either of you anything."
Sasuke sat.
Naruto pulled out ink.
He didn't remove Kakashi's Evil Sealing Method, only his past work the forest of death central tower.
The existing structure had worked, but there was much to improve.
It simply wasn't designed for how aggressively Sasuke had been abusing the Curse Mark.
So Naruto built around it.
The first additions reinforced the damaged characters, restoring the broken containment pathways without changing their original function. From there, Naruto expanded the matrix outward, adding four secondary channels around the primary seal.
Kakashi watched silently.
Naruto's fingers moved.
Containment became distribution.
When the Curse Mark pushed outward, the new pathways wouldn't immediately force everything directly back toward the center. They would divide the pressure between several smaller channels, reducing the strain placed on any individual section of the seal.
Then Naruto added isolation.
That part came from Shukaku.
Foreign chakra and host chakra needed boundaries.
Not walls.
Boundaries.
Enough interaction for Sasuke's own chakra system to function.
Enough separation that Orochimaru's chakra couldn't spread wherever it pleased.
Naruto altered another line.
Kakashi's eye widened slightly.
"Where did you learn that?"
"Sand."
"Long story."
"Of course."
Naruto's Sage earrings warmed.
The corrupted Natural Energy became easier to distinguish.
He adjusted the outer formula around what he sensed, creating another layer designed specifically to impede the foreign energy's movement toward Sasuke's upper chakra network.
Head.
Brain.
Mind.
Naruto's expression darkened.
That was where too much of it had been going.
No wonder Sasuke had been acting insane.
Naruto drew the final character.
The entire matrix glowed.
Sasuke sucked in a breath.
"Don't move."
"I'm not."
"You're twitching."
"Because you're drawing on my fucking neck."
"Very sensitive princess."
"Naruto."
"Done."
The formula flashed.
Then contracted.
Black markings folded inward around the Curse Mark before settling into a denser pattern.
PING!
ADVANCED FŪINJUTSU APPLICATION CREATED
Modified Evil Containment Seal
Components Integrated:
Curse Mark psychological influence greatly reduced while inactive.
Foreign chakra leakage reduced.
Corrupted Natural Energy circulation reduced.
Seal pressure distributed across secondary containment pathways.
Resistance to degradation greatly increased.
Repeated use will still cause breakdown of Evil Containment Seal.
The seal finished contracting.
Sasuke inhaled.
His eyes widened.
Then slowly—
The Sharingan disappeared.
Black became black again.
He sat perfectly still.
Naruto watched him.
Kakashi waited.
"Sasuke?"
No answer.
Then—
"It's quiet."
Naruto frowned.
"What is?"
Sasuke struggled to explain it.
"The..."
His fingers touched the seal.
"Noise."
For days, every thought had arrived carrying another one behind it.
Train.
Not enough.
Naruto got stronger.
You're weak.
Kakashi praised him.
He's pitying you.
Remember Gaara.
You failed.
Remember Naruto.
He's leaving you behind.
Every frustration sharpened.
Every insecurity became anger.
Every moment of anger demanded action.
Now—
The thoughts were still there.
But they were his.
Sasuke closed his eyes.
For the first time since fighting Gaara, he could think about Naruto without immediately feeling the Curse Mark heat against his neck.
Naruto watched another window appear.
Cursed Seal of Heaven - Moderate (Stable)
+30% boost to all stats besides luck upon activation
+80% Chakra capacity upon activation, -25% capacity for 24 hours directly afterwards.
-15% to intelligence, particularly around impulse control and negative thoughts
Hidden Capabilities still pending
WARNING
Underlying emotional conditions remain unaffected.
Naruto stared at the last sentence.
Underlying emotional conditions remain unaffected.
His eyes moved toward Sasuke.
Sasuke opened his.
Clearer.
Definitely.
But he looked at Naruto and remembered the fight.
Naruto throwing him into a tree.
Naruto walking through combinations that would've crippled another genin.
Naruto drowning his Fire Release.
Naruto using Cyclone to turn the battlefield against his Sharingan.
Naruto refusing to use Rail Pierce on him.
Then using it on the fucking ground and ending the fight anyway.
The Curse Mark wasn't whispering now.
There was no foreign chakra turning irritation into rage.
No poisoned Natural Energy crawling toward his thoughts.
Sasuke still hated it.
He hated how large the gap had become.
He hated that Naruto had been the one to notice something was wrong with his seal.
He hated that Naruto had been the one to fix it.
Most of all—
He hated that without the Curse Mark clouding his thoughts, he couldn't blame the Curse Mark for all of that.
Some of it was simply him.
Sasuke stood.
Naruto watched him carefully.
"Better?"
"Yeah."
"Like actually better?"
Sasuke rolled his shoulder.
"Yes."
Naruto smiled.
"Good."
Sasuke stared at him.
There it was again.
That forgiving smile.
For years Sasuke had been ahead.
Naruto chased him.
Naruto demanded fights.
Naruto celebrated every tiny victory.
Naruto called him a bastard and promised that someday he'd beat him.
Somewhere along the way—
Sasuke had become the one chasing.
He didn't know when it happened.
He only knew he hated the feeling.
Sasuke raised his right hand.
Naruto's smile faded.
Two fingers.
The Seal of Reconciliation.
Naruto looked at it for a moment.
Then raised his own hand.
Their fingers hooked.
The traditional end to a shinobi spar.
Recognition.
Respect.
A promise that whatever happened during the fight ended with the fight.
Naruto squeezed his fingers once.
"Next time, maybe don't try to stab me with lightning."
Sasuke's mouth twitched.
"Next time don't pull your punches."
"No promises."
Sasuke's eye twitched.
Naruto grinned.
"There he is."
Sasuke released his hand.
PING!
RIVAL GROWTH LINK
Linked Rival: Sasuke Uchiha
Status: MODERATE — UNSTABLE
Curse Mark interference significantly reduced.
Mutual competitive drive remains extremely high.
+2 to all stats besides luck!
Emotional divergence persists.
Naruto's grin weakened.
He'd hoped fixing the seal would fix that too.
Apparently not.
Kakashi walked between them.
"Now that neither of you is actively attempting manslaughter—"
"It wasn't manslaughter," Naruto said.
Kakashi looked at the Rail Pierce trench.
"Hospital."
Naruto's face fell.
"Come on!"
"You are still recovering."
"I'm fine!"
"You used Tidal Wave repeatedly, Cyclone repeatedly, fought Sasuke for half an hour, and fired Rail Pierce."
"At the ground!"
Sasuke walked past them.
Kakashi pointed at him without looking.
"You're coming too."
Sasuke stopped.
"I'm fine."
"You used Chidori with a damaged Curse Mark seal."
Silence.
"Hospital."
Sasuke scowled.
Naruto immediately brightened.
"Ha!"
Kakashi grabbed Naruto by the back of his jacket.
"You're still going."
"FUCK!"
Sasuke continued walking.
Naruto got dragged behind Kakashi.
The sun had nearly disappeared now, orange fading into purple above Konoha.
Sasuke glanced sideways.
Naruto was still arguing.
Still loud.
Still obnoxious.
Still his teammate.
His rival.
His friend.
And Sasuke hated that a small part of him wished Naruto was still the idiot chasing after him.
Because then—
Sasuke wouldn't have to wonder whether he could catch up.
As Naruto and Sasuke left the training ground—
PING!
Naruto glanced at the notification.

Earth-Style Wall would give him an actual defensive Earth technique to start working with. The Sharingan fragment was useful, but only useful enough that he'd deal with it later.
He dismissed the notification.
Right now, recovering his relationsip with his best friend mattered more.
