Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Jiang Su, You Better Give Me an Explanation

In her dream, Lin Ruirui was a grisly, terrifying sight with two lines of bloody tears streaming down her face. Her eyes were filled with nothing but hatred for Guan Ruirui, and her hands were locked in a death grip around the other girl's throat.

In reality, Guan Ruirui suddenly began to convulse violently on her hospital bed, looking as though her breath was being forcibly choked out of her.

The monitors beside the bed began to emit sharp, piercing alarms. Soon, doctors and nurses burst into the VIP room to begin emergency resuscitation.

In the chaos, someone's hand happened to brush against Guan Ruirui. In the dream, Lin Ruirui felt as if she were blasted away by a massive force. A second later, Guan Ruirui's eyes snapped open in the real world, and she began gasping for air in pure terror.

Meanwhile, on the rooftop of the school building, Jiang Xuxu stood still. She watched a cold, mocking sneer touch her lips as she witnessed the scene in the phantasm: Guan Ruirui abandoning a bleeding, collapsed girl to flee for her life.

She seemed immersed in the girl's desperate illusion, seemingly unaware that strands of silk were once again creeping toward her from all directions.

Those wisps of silk transformed into black qi, attempting to burrow into her body inch by inch.

Suddenly, a speck of golden light spilled from the palm of the previously motionless Jiang Xuxu.

The light flickered and swayed for a heartbeat before instantly shattering the phantasm before her eyes.

Jiang Xuxu snapped her eyes open, her gaze locking onto a specific spot on the rooftop. Three Thunder Talismans flew from her hand in an instant.

"Heavenly thunder roars, earthly thunder darkens; above are the Six Jia, below are the Six Ding; by order of the Grand Supreme, let the thunder strike and slay Boom!"

It was the same Thunder Incantation she always used. Jiang Xuxu had hoped that three talismans would at least force the opponent to reveal its true form. Even if it couldn't be heavily wounded, she needed to create an opening to rescue the people first.

To her surprise, the moment she threw the talismans, a speck of golden light seemed to fly out along with them.

Jiang Xuxu didn't have time to retrieve the Golden Light (Aura of Merit) before finishing the incantation. The moment she shouted the final word, a bolt of electricity flashed across the rooftop sky.

In the next second, three bolts of Purple Thunder slammed down toward the spot where her talismans had landed.

Jiang Xuxu's eyes widened in shock.

Pu... Purple Thunder!?

Before she could process it, another Silkworm Cocoon Egg abruptly appeared where the lightning struck.

Unlike the other giant cocoons, this one was only the size of a child and was a deep, saturated crimson, looking as though it had been soaked through with blood.

The blood-red cocoon tried to escape the moment the Purple Thunder struck, but under the deterrent force of those three bolts, there was nowhere to run.

Under the onslaught of the Purple Thunder, the red cocoon's shell was reduced to ash almost instantly. Even the skull wrapped inside was charred black.

Jiang Xuxu saw something fly out from the scorched skull. Her eyes narrowed, and she quickly flicked out a Yellow Talisman, instantly wrapping the object within it.

Once the Purple Thunder passed, everything was clear.

Jiang Su, who had been hiding behind the door, was utterly dazed.

He had originally thought that the lightning Jiang Xuxu used to save him earlier was cool enough. He never expected that hadn't even been his sister's true strength!

This was the real deal!

"Sis! You really are my big sis! Was that skull the culprit? Are we safe now?"

Even someone like him could feel that the bone-chilling cold that had been lingering in the air had vanished without a trace after the Purple Thunder struck.

Jiang Su felt a sense of relief and lightness he had never experienced before. He began circling Jiang Xuxu in excitement.

Jiang Xuxu, however, was still marveling at her own power.

This wasn't just "heavily wounded." She had literally reduced the core entity to ash and bone-dust.

"Did you see that just now? Those three bolts of Purple Thunder..."

Jiang Xuxu was still uncertain. Had her Thunder Talismans really summoned that?

Jiang Su thought she was boasting and immediately played along. "I saw them! Three bolts of Purple Thunder that thick! It was super cool!"

Jiang Xuxu took a sharp breath in secret.

It really was Purple Thunder. She hadn't seen it wrong.

Ordinary lightning naturally possessed the power to restrain evil, but Purple Thunder was an existence that could directly annihilate it!

Such powerful Purple Thunder had actually been summoned by her!

Jiang Xuxu hadn't even known she was capable of summoning it. Her master had said she was exceptionally talented, but after all, she had only been studying the mystic arts for a short time. Being able to summon ordinary lightning was already an achievement.

Jiang Xuxu felt that something wasn't right.

Before she could ponder further, her gaze moved to the seven giant cocoons. The shockwaves from the Purple Thunder had already caused the silk wrapping the people inside to crack.

"Save the people first," Jiang Xuxu said, pulling out a Yellow Talisman and slicing open two of the Silkworm Cocoon Eggs with a few swift motions.

Seeing this, Jiang Su hurriedly pulled out his utility knife and carefully began cutting through the other cocoons.

Soon, the seven people were liberated. All of them were clearly in a deep coma.

"Sis, what do we do now? Should we call the police?" Jiang Su was now calling her "sis" quite naturally.

Jiang Xuxu looked at the victims and said, "Call an ambulance first and get them to the hospital."

Though these people had been eroded by Yin qi, it wasn't too severe.

Jiang Su was about to pull out his phone when a deep male voice spoke from behind them.

"I've already had someone make the call. The ambulance will be here soon."

The two of them turned around to see that Chu Beihe had made his way up to the rooftop at some point.

He looked at the scene before him with a calm gaze. His dark eyes swept over the silkworm shells beneath the unconscious students. His brow furrowed slightly, but he didn't show much surprise.

Chu Beihe hadn't intended to meddle at first, but after seeing the flash of lightning over the teaching building, he had decided to come inside. When he reached the bottom of the building, he found the girl lying on the ground.

Knowing something had definitely happened, he followed the commotion up to the roof.

Jiang Xuxu was stunned for a moment when she saw the almost blinding Golden Light (Aura of Merit) surrounding Chu Beihe. Then, a sudden spark of realization flashed through her mind.

She finally understood.

Earlier, the thing she had thrown out alongside her Thunder Talismans seemed to be that speck of golden light she had "borrowed" from Chu Beihe earlier.

So... those three bolts of Purple Thunder...

They had been drawn down by the big boss's Golden Light!?

In an instant, the way Jiang Xuxu looked at Chu Beihe became complicated and intense.

Complicated because she realized she hadn't summoned the Purple Thunder through her own power. Intense because she realized that the Golden Light on Chu Beihe's body actually had such a use.

Jiang Xuxu suddenly had a very bold idea.

While Jiang Xuxu was staring at him, Chu Beihe was also looking at her, his dark eyes filled with undisguised scrutiny. He wanted to ask something, but for the first time in his life, he didn't know where to start.

Just as he opened his mouth, a cool breeze swept across the rooftop. In the next second, the silkworm shells beneath the seven people dissolved into dust, scattering in the wind.

Chu Beihe's brow twitched.

Suddenly, he didn't want to ask anymore. Regardless, this was clearly not something that could be explained by science.

Before they could exchange any further words, the sound of footsteps echoed from the stairs again. This time, it was Jiang Huai, followed by his driver. When Jiang Huai saw the "bodies" scattered across the rooftop, his face turned a sickly shade of green for the first time.

He looked at Jiang Su, his voice dripping with a restrained, dark fury.

"Jiang Su, you better give me an explanation!"
