Niobe leaned forward, her hand stained with a bit of engine oil twisting the D-Wheel's handle with force.
The engine's roar rose from a low growl into a piercing scream.
"Let me show you the results of my training this past week, Phila!"
Niobe's speed exploded along the straightaway. The white machine rapidly closed the distance with Phila until the two D-Wheels were racing side by side.
She freed her right hand and pulled a card from the holographic screen.
[Junk Converter] Level 2│EARTH│Warrior│400 ATK
"I activate the first effect of [Junk Converter] from my hand: You can discard this card and 1 Tuner; add 1 'Synchron' monster from your Deck to your hand."
Niobe slid the two cards into the Graveyard slot.
"I discard [Junk Converter] and the Tuner monster [Junk Synchron], then add–"
"Niobe, this is my respect for you."
Phila revealed a card on her projection interface.
[Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring] Level 3│FIRE│Zombie│0 ATK
"I activate the first effect of [Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring] from my hand: When a card or effect is activated that includes any of these effects, you can discard this card; negate that effect.
● Add a card from the Deck to the hand
● Special Summon a monster from the Deck
● Send a card from the Deck to the Graveyard."
Illusory cherry blossom petals flashed away in the sea breeze. Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring appeared before Niobe's D-Wheel, smiling as she negated Junk Converter.
"Got hit by a hand trap?"
The search interface before Niobe instantly vanished. Failing to replenish her resources, her D-Wheel's engine let out a muffled rumble and her speed dropped slightly, allowing Phila to pull ahead by half a bike length again.
"Tch. Then I Normal Summon–"
[Scrap Raptor] Level 4│EARTH│Dinosaur│1400 ATK
A mechanical velociraptor covered in rusted metal armor appeared behind Niobe.
"I activate the first effect of [Scrap Raptor]: Target 1 monster you control; destroy it. During your Main Phase this turn, in addition to your Normal Summon/Set, you can Normal Summon 1 'Scrap' monster."
At once, Niobe pointed at her own monster.
"The target I destroy is itself!"
The mechanical dragon let out a sharp explosive crack. Parts blasted outward like shrapnel before its phantom completely vanished.
"Then, because [Scrap Raptor] was destroyed, I activate its second effect: If this card is destroyed by the effect of a 'Scrap' card and sent to the Graveyard, add 1 non-Tuner 'Scrap' monster from your Deck to your hand."
Niobe grabbed a new card from the opened card slot.
"I add [Scrap Chimera] to my hand, then use the additional summon I just gained to Normal Summon–"
[Scrap Chimera] Level 4│EARTH│Beast│1700 ATK
"I activate the first effect of [Scrap Chimera]: When this card is Normal Summoned, target 1 'Scrap' Tuner in your Graveyard; Special Summon it. Come back, [Scrap Raptor]!"
The phantoms of two monsters appeared on the track once more, running side by side beside Niobe's wheels.
"And at last, Synchro Summon!"
Excitement surged through Niobe as her right hand slammed onto the spherical sensor in the center of the dashboard.
"Level 4 [Scrap Raptor] tunes with Level 4 [Scrap Chimera]!"
The mechanical velociraptor transformed into four green rings of light, enveloping the chimera forged from steel scraps.
"Steel wreckage bites together, and the roaring dragon awakens from the ruins. Synchro Summon–come forth!"
[Scrap Dragon] Level 8│EARTH│Dragon│2800 ATK
It was an enormous dragon constructed from discarded steel plates and oil pipes. It released a muddy roar, and with a single flap of its wings, massive waves of seawater were forced aside by the pressure.
The instant the Synchro Summon succeeded, Niobe's D-Wheel emitted a piercing burst of electricity. The perpetual motion engine sensed the leap in synchronization rate, and a massive amount of energy poured wildly from the Duel Disk into the engine.
The motorcycle, already moving at tremendous speed, accelerated even further. The overwhelming thrust pinned Niobe against the backrest as explosions rang out one after another. It was nearly breaking the sound barrier.
"As the summon resolves, I activate the first effect of [Scrap Dragon]: Once per turn, target 1 card you control and 1 card your opponent controls; destroy them."
While speeding forward, Niobe turned her head toward Phila ahead of her.
"You're trading [Scrap Dragon] one-for-one with my card?"
Phila sounded a little confused.
Other than the Synchro Monster, Niobe's field originally had no other Set cards or Equip Cards.
"Phila, pay closer attention. Isn't there still one card on my field that'll never leave?"
Niobe pointed toward the constantly flashing symbol on her dashboard.
"Don't tell me…"
"Yeah. I target [Speed World 2] on the field and your Set back row card, then destroy them!"
Niobe's dragon opened its damaged maw in midair as dark crimson waves of light began to gather.
"Although a field created by the rules like [Speed World 2] can't actually be destroyed, it can still be targeted. So in the end, the only thing destroyed is your Set card."
The dragon's roar drowned out the engines as a crimson beam instantly struck the shadow behind Phila's D-Wheel.
