Kai didn't go alone. The meeting location wasn't exactly a secret, but it wasn't public either. It was a sleek high-rise in the heart of the city, wrapped in a layer of security that didn't look like guards. There were no flashy signs and no busy crowds—just a heavy sense of quiet control.

Kai stood on the opposite sidewalk for a moment with his hands in his pockets. He watched the entrance, his face a mask of calm. He wasn't necessarily nervous, but he wasn't relaxed, either.

"Too clean," he muttered to himself. Beneath him, his shadow stretched out against the pavement. It remained still, but it felt sharp—aware of everything around them.

"You planning to stand there all day?" a voice asked from behind.

Kai didn't flinch. He knew that voice. He waited a beat before turning his head. "...You followed me."

Aria walked up to his side and crossed her arms. She looked more annoyed than impressed. "You really thought I'd let you walk into a place like this by yourself?"

"This isn't your problem, Aria," Kai said, his voice low.

She scoffed, looking up at the glass tower. "Yeah? Well, it feels like my problem. I saw that invitation, Kai. That's why I'm here." She stepped a little closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Do you even know who called you here?"

Kai's gaze shifted back to the building. "I have a guess."

Aria's expression tightened. "If it's who I think it is, this isn't just a friendly chat. This is a trap, or a recruitment pitch you can't say no to."

"I know," Kai replied. That was exactly what worried him.

***

They stood there together for a moment. The air around the building felt different than the rest of the city. It didn't feel like the raw, jagged energy of a dungeon, but it was just as heavy. Everything was measured. Every person entering the lobby was being watched and filed away.

Aria clicked her tongue. "I don't like this."

"You've been saying that a lot lately," Kai said with a faint, dry smirk.

"Because you keep walking into bad situations!" She snapped, then sighed, her shoulders dropping.

Kai looked at her, his expression turning serious. "You can wait here. In fact, I want you to."

Aria started to protest, but Kai held up a hand.

"If something goes wrong in there, you won't be able to help me from the inside," he said. "And I don't want you dragged into whatever mess they're planning. Please."

That hit home. Aria looked into his eyes, searching for a sign of hesitation. She found none.

"Fine," she exhaled slowly. "I'll wait. But Kai? If something feels off, get out. Don't try to be a hero."

"I know."

***

Kai crossed the street alone. With every step toward the glass doors, the air seemed to get thicker. It wasn't a physical weight, but a mental one.

The moment he stepped into the lobby, he felt it: eyes. They weren't obvious, and no one was staring, but he knew he was being measured by people he couldn't see. His shadow shifted slightly at his feet, reacting to the hidden pressure. Kai ignored it and walked straight to the desk.

The receptionist didn't ask for ID. She didn't even look surprised. "Name?"

"Kai."

She nodded and gestured toward the elevators. "Please proceed to the top floor. He is expecting you."

No questions. No security check. That told Kai everything he needed to know—they already knew exactly who he was and what he was carrying.

The elevator ride was silent and far too fast. Kai leaned against the mirrored wall, watching his own reflection. "You're walking right into it," he whispered. His shadow didn't move, but it felt restless, like a dog baring its teeth.

The doors slid open. The top floor was wide, minimal, and terrifyingly clean. The pressure here was real—it felt like a physical force pushing against his chest. Kai stepped out, his boots echoing against the polished floor.

"Right on time." The voice was calm and perfectly composed. A man stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out over the city skyline. He didn't turn around at first.

"You're younger than I expected," the man said.

Kai didn't answer. He didn't need to. He knew who this was.

The man finally turned. He had sharp, intelligent eyes and a presence that filled the entire room without him having to raise his voice. He gestured to a chair. "Sit."

It sounded polite, but it wasn't a suggestion.

"I'll stand," Kai said.

The man paused, then a small, amused smile touched his lips. "Interesting."

***

The silence that followed wasn't awkward; it was a test. The man studied Kai like a scientist looking at a new discovery.

"You've been busy," the Guild Master said.

"I work," Kai replied shortly.

The man chuckled. "That's one way to put it. Clearing dungeons with perfect efficiency, avoiding the media, moving without a pattern... it's impressive. Truly."

Kai kept his face blank. "If you brought me here to give me a performance review, I'm leaving."

The Guild Master's smile widened. "Straight to the point. I like that. Fine. I don't need to know your life story, Kai. I just need to know enough."

"And what do you think you know?"

The Guild Master stepped closer, his eyes locking onto Kai's. "I know that you're valuable. And I know that you're dangerous."

He turned back to the window, pointing at the sprawling city below. "The world is changing. Dungeons are evolving, the old patterns are breaking, and the old rules don't work anymore. People like you—people who can survive the change—are becoming necessary."

He looked back over his shoulder. "Join me. I can give you everything you're currently fighting for. Resources. Protection. The freedom to grow your power without having to hide in the corners of the city."

That last part hung in the air. Kai was quiet for a long time. "And what do you want in return?"

The Guild Master smiled. "Nothing complicated. Just loyalty."

Kai looked at him—really looked at him. He saw the power, but he also saw the chains that came with it.

"I don't do well with control," Kai said.

The Guild Master didn't get angry. If anything, he looked even more impressed. "Good. Neither do I."

Kai turned toward the elevator. He didn't ask for permission to leave. "I'll think about it."

He began to walk away, but the Guild Master's voice stopped him one last time.

"Kai."

Kai paused.

"Be careful," the man said, his voice losing its casual edge. "You aren't the only one being watched."

***

Outside, the cool air hit Kai's face, and Aria immediately pushed herself off the wall. "Well? What happened?"

Kai walked past her, his pace fast. "Let's go."

Aria hurried to keep up, frowning. "That bad?"

Kai looked straight ahead at the crowded street. "Worse."

His shadow stretched out long beneath him. This time, it didn't feel restless or nervous. It felt alert. Ready. The game had changed. Kai was no longer a ghost in the system. He had been seen, and now, there was no going back.
