Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Missing Evidence

Two hours after the incident, the police arrived and knocked on the door.

"Knock, knock, knock. Inspector Da Vinci here. Is anyone inside? If you hear my voice, please open the door."

"Yes, I am coming... please come in, gentlemen. The body is in the kitchen. Please do not go upstairs and move forward, then enter through the door on the left." I opened the door for the police and pointed with my finger toward the kitchen.

The police walked into the kitchen after a few steps and began the investigation. They started asking us some questions.

"So you two are the victim's brothers. Tell me, where were you at two o'clock in the afternoon?" the inspector asked while holding a pen and a notebook in his hands.

"My brother and I were studying at the high school at that time."

I answered with a nervous voice.

"Do you have a witness?"

"Yes, our classmates in the class will all testify for us."

"Alright. Tell me, did you notice any strange behavior from your sister? For example, did she frequently go to a certain place recently?"

"No sir, she was normal. As for going to a certain place frequently, we do not know."

"Alright, tell me your names."

"My name is Edward, and this is my brother Arthur. We are from the Lu family."

"So the victim's last name is Lu. Alright, what is her name?"

"Her name is Olivia, sir."

"Alright. Go upstairs to your room and rest. I know the shock is big from the look on your faces, and this will help us with the investigation. If we need you, we will call you. Now give us enough time to find the evidence that will lead us to the killer, and once we reach a result we will inform you," said the inspector while trying to comfort us and give us hope to solve the case.

My brother and I went up to my room while the inspector and his police team searched for evidence. Every second passed with difficulty.

"Unfortunately, we did not find any evidence indicating the presence of a killer. Therefore, I regret to inform you that your sister Olivia committed suicide of her own will, and with this the case will be closed."

The inspector informed us of the investigation results with a tone full of sadness and sympathy after half a day of searching for evidence that could point to the killer.

"What! Are you joking? It is impossible for my sister to commit suicide of her own will! She was always cheerful and optimistic about life," I replied to the inspector with anger and shock.

"Even so, this is still the truth. We did not find any evidence, and therefore we closed the case. Now excuse us, we will take our leave," the inspector replied.

"What!!! You are leaving this simply after only half a day? It is clear that you did not even try hard to search."

I shouted at the inspector with an angry look and I was about to hit him, but my brother held me tightly from behind my back and urged me to calm down.

The inspector looked at me with a pitying gaze along with his police team, then they left and closed the door behind them.

Yes, on that day my sister's case was closed and classified as a suicide.
