A pristine white ceiling. The faint, sterile smell of medical alcohol. And the slow, steady beep... beep... beep... of a heart monitor.
Karma slowly opened his eyes. The suffocating darkness of the Deep Zone, the swirling gray ash, and the terrifying roar of the mutated beast were completely gone. They had been replaced by a bright, quiet room. He was in the VIP Medical Ward of Vedas Heritage Academy.
Karma took a slow, deep breath. Instantly, he realized something incredible.
He had expected his ribs to scream in agony, his lungs to burn, and his bones to feel like shattered glass. But... there was no pain. Instead, his body felt impossibly light, yet bursting with a quiet, overwhelming strength.
He closed his eyes and looked inward. Where his 1st Chakra (the Cracked Core) used to flicker like a dying, painful teal light, there was now a deep, calm, and incredibly dense ocean of energy. This was his 2nd Chakra: Life Force. By absorbing the beast's Dark-Gold corruption and purifying it with his own desperate willpower, his body had permanently evolved. His muscles were denser, and his Pran energy flowed smoothly, without leaking a single drop.
He had officially crossed the limits of an ordinary human.
Karma tried to move his right hand, but he felt a gentle weight holding it down. He turned his head.
Sitting on a small stool right beside his bed was Daizy. Her head was resting on the edge of the mattress, and she was fast asleep. Even in her sleep, she was gripping Karma's hand tightly with both of hers, as if letting go would make him disappear. Her face was pale with exhaustion, and the dark circles under her eyes made it clear she hadn't slept properly in days.
A profound, peaceful smile spread across Karma's face. He had kept his promise. She was alive.
Slowly, using his free hand, Karma gently stroked her hair.
"You really became my shield," Karma whispered softly into the quiet room.
"Oye, Romeo! You're finally awake!"
The door to the ward suddenly burst open. Kanha marched into the room, loudly chewing on an apple while hugging a massive bag of spicy chips to his chest. Right behind him walked Sambhab, his arm wrapped in a white bandage, but wearing a rare, genuine smile.
The loud noise made Daizy jolt awake. She gasped, looking around in a panic. But the moment her dark eyes landed on Karma's open eyes, tears immediately flooded her vision.
Without thinking, Daizy lunged forward and wrapped her arms tightly around Karma's neck, burying her face in his shoulder.
"You are an absolute idiot!" Daizy cried, her voice trembling. "Who told you to block that beam with your body? My heart completely stopped, Karma!"
Karma blushed slightly, entirely unused to this kind of affection, but he gently patted her back. "I'm okay, Daizy. I promised you, didn't I?"
"Ahem. Save the romance for later, we have a hero to worship here," Kanha joked, tossing his half-eaten apple into a nearby bin. He walked over to the bed and gave Karma a light, friendly punch on the shoulder. "Brother, you've been unconscious for three whole days. We thought you were going to open your eyes directly in heaven."
"Three days?" Karma's eyes widened in shock. He slowly sat up, looking at his hands. "Wait... what about the Aether Hunt? Did we fail the exam? We got teleported to the wrong zone..."
Sambhab stepped forward. He tapped his wrist-mounted Pran-meter, projecting a holographic blue screen into the air.
"Fail? Karma, I don't think you realized what you did before you passed out," Sambhab said, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "When Professor Agni found us, you handed him the Elite Gold Core. The core of the mutated Deep Zone boss. In the entire history of Vedas Heritage Academy, no first-year team has ever harvested a Gold Core."
Kanha popped his collar proudly, a massive grin on his face. "Brother, the entire academy is going crazy! Everyone is talking about the 'Core Four'. We are officially ranked #1 in the first-year class. Even the senior students are terrified of our team! We are practically living legends!"
Karma's jaw dropped. "Rank 1? We topped the Hunt?"
"We didn't just top it," Sambhab added, his tone turning serious and deeply respectful. "Principal Vardhan personally promoted our team to the 'Elite Class'. Your courage down there changed all of our destinies."
Daizy pulled back slightly, holding Karma's hand again. Her eyes were shining with absolute pride. "You saved all of us, Karma."
Karma clenched his fist. The new power surging in his veins, the unwavering loyalty of his friends, and the absolute trust in Daizy's eyes. For the first time in his life, Karma truly believed he wasn't weak. He wasn't a victim anymore.
He was a Storm.
Scene Shift: The VIP Dormitories
While the hospital room was filled with warmth and celebration, the highest, most luxurious balcony of the academy was suffocating under a thick blanket of dark energy.
Sera stood at the edge of her balcony, looking down at the academy grounds. In her hand, she held an expensive crystal glass filled with dark red pomegranate juice. Her beautiful purple eyes were entirely pitch-black with rage.
Kneeling on the floor behind her were two senior students, shaking uncontrollably in fear. These were the subordinates Sera had secretly sent into the Deep Zone to assassinate Karma's team.
"So, you are telling me..." Sera's voice was dead and freezing cold. "...that you cowards ran away before even reaching them? And that piece of trash boy, the one with the cracked core, managed to solo an Elite Mutated Beast?"
"S-Sera ma'am," one of the seniors stuttered, sweat dripping down his face. "T-That boy is not normal! His speed was like a monster's. And when we checked the academy's energy logs... his 2nd Chakra has awakened! He now holds the raw Pran density of an Elite Rank!"
CRACK!
Sera's fist clenched so tightly that the expensive crystal glass shattered into a hundred pieces. Shards of glass bit into her palm, and the red juice dripped down her hand like thick blood, but she didn't even flinch. She felt absolutely no physical pain, only a burning, poisonous jealousy.
Her step-sister, Daizy—the girl she had always looked down upon as a weak, useless healer was now part of the Rank #1 team in the academy. And Karma... the wild, unpredictable boy Sera wanted to break and turn into her personal toy, had completely slipped out of her control.
"Karma..." Sera whispered, bringing her bleeding hand to her face and smiling a terrifying, psychotic smile. "Do you think bringing back one Gold Core makes you a hero? You haven't even tasted true despair yet."
Sera released her terrifying purple Pran energy. The shattered pieces of glass on the floor slowly began to float in the air around her.
"The Inter-Academy Tournament is next month," Sera said to her kneeling subordinates, her voice dripping with venom. "There are no safety protocols there. Professor Agni won't be there to drop from the sky and save them. I will personally enter the arena... and Karma, I am going to burn your precious friends alive right in front of your eyes."
Hidden in the shadows, Sera's eyes glowed like a predatory beast. The Aether Hunt was only the beginning. The real war was about to begin.
