Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Basement Opens

Emma screamed.

But the darkness swallowed her voice.

She stumbled backward, her hands searching desperately for something—anything—to hold onto.

Then—

Silence.

Complete silence.

Emma slowly opened her eyes.

The room… was gone.

She was no longer upstairs.

No bedroom.

No creature.

Only darkness.

Cold.

Damp.

And suffocating.

Emma's breath trembled as she realized—

She was somewhere else.

Her flashlight flickered back to life in her hand.

The weak beam revealed wooden walls around her.

Tight.

Narrow.

Claustrophobic.

Emma's heart stopped.

"This… this is not possible…"

Then she saw it.

Chains.

Rusty.

Hanging from the walls.

And marks.

Deep scratch marks.

Everywhere.

Her chest tightened.

"This is the basement…"

She hadn't opened the door.

But somehow—

The basement had taken her.

Suddenly—

A whisper echoed from behind her.

Soft.

Broken.

"...you came…"

Emma turned slowly.

The light shook in her hand.

In the corner of the basement…

Something moved.

A figure.

Curled up.

Thin.

Too thin.

Like it hadn't eaten in years.

"Help… me…" it said weakly.

Emma hesitated.

The diary's words echoed in her mind—

"It begs."

"It lies."

Her voice trembled.

"Who are you?"

The figure slowly lifted its head.

Its face was pale.

Eyes sunken.

But human.

Almost.

"I was… like you…" it whispered.

"I came here… looking for something…"

Emma took a step back.

"What happened to you?"

The figure smiled faintly.

A broken, painful smile.

"The house… found me."

Suddenly—

The chains on the walls began to rattle.

Loud.

Violent.

The air turned colder.

The figure's expression changed.

Its smile widened unnaturally.

Too wide.

Too familiar.

Emma froze.

"No…"

The figure stood up.

Its bones cracked loudly.

Its body stretched unnaturally—just like the thing upstairs.

"I told you…" it said.

Now in multiple voices.

"We lie."

Emma screamed.

The basement door behind her suddenly appeared.

Open.

Waiting.

She ran.

Without looking back.

As she climbed the stairs, she heard it chasing her.

Fast.

Closer.

Closer.

She burst into the hallway and slammed the door shut.

The chains wrapped around it again on their own.

Silence returned.

Emma collapsed on the floor, shaking.

Now she understood.

The house didn't just trap people.

It changed them.

And whatever was inside the basement…

Wasn't just waiting anymore.

It was hunting.
