Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: The North Alpha's Return

Loki stared at Ken. "Ken, what are you doing?" Ken's eyes glowed. Loki stood up and threw away the crystal bullet that had hit him. "Snap out of it, damn it!"

The rain intensified. Loki slowly stood. He stretched his hand to protect Lucas from any more shots.

Ken pointed the pistol at Loki. He tried to stop but could not control his hand. Screaming, he moved the pistol to his own head. He heard a scream from Loki, who was running toward him.

Breathing softly, Ken knew what he had to do. He had approached the elder bat while shooting it. He thought it was dead as he kicked it in anger. It gave a low growl, so he shot its head off. Then he felt a loss of control over his right hand and proceeded to shoot Loki. He tried to hold back, but looking at Loki again, Loki's face twisted into the bat's snout. He blinked. Loki was Loki again. He did not trust his eyes.

Deep down he knew something was wrong. Using his last bit of willpower, he pushed the pistol to his own head with his left hand. He screamed as he pulled the trigger.

Loki saw the gun rise toward Ken's temple. He turned away. He could not watch. He closed his eyes and heard the loud bang.

What just happened? He knelt in the grass, afraid to look around. Everyone was gone this time. Unlike in the white room, he could have stopped this, but he was weak and pathetic. He screamed as rain fell heavily around him. He tore at the grass with his hands. Tears fell from his eyes. He brought his hands to his face and sobbed.

He heard footsteps approaching. He looked up and tightened his fists.

"Hey, down. It's alright. We've got you."

He turned toward the sound. That was the squad jacket. The figure approached and raised a hand, releasing the hood.

"Lisa."

Lisa approached Loki as he turned to look at her. She saw his blue bleeding eyes and stumbled back. "Try to close your eyes," she said. Loki's eyes were bleeding and completely blue. She got closer to him, turning her face from watching his eyes.

"I can't. Get Lucas. He's dying!" Loki shouted at her, pointing at Lucas's body on the ground.

"He's alright." She held Loki's shoulder. Taking a black cloth from her pocket, she bandaged his head, covering his eyes.

Loki felt the bandage wrap around his eyes. He tried to close them but they wouldn't listen. The bandage should have blocked his sight. It didn't. He could still see clearly. He did not understand why. He pushed the thought away.

"Lisa, Lucas is there." He walked away from her, splashing through the mud toward Lucas.

Lucas lay there. The rain had washed away his bloody figure, and the wounds on his body were closing up. Loki knelt into the soil and removed the jacket he had placed on the abdomen. The wound had nearly closed.

"Lucas, sir!" He tried shaking him awake.

"Loki! We need to get to the base now." Lisa pulled him off Lucas, bent down, and carried Lucas onto her back. "Take your jacket and follow us."

"Us?" Loki thought. He turned to see Mary approaching with Ken. Mary was holding Lucas's blades, placing them on her back. Ken was alive.

Ken followed, staring at Loki and nodding his head.

"How are you alive, you bastard?" Loki ran after him. Ken gave no response.

They ran following the path. The base walls came into sight after a few sprints. The journey was quiet and quick. Staring at Lucas's back, Loki wanted to shout at him, but Ken's nodding face and the lack of color in his eyes made him worried. What happened? Why did Ken shoot him? Also, how was Ken still alive?[1]

The gates of the base stood on the hill. The thunderstorm had intensified. Lisa placed her watch on the gate. After a series of clicking sounds, the door opened. She sprinted into the base grounds. Warm breaths crossed her neck as Lucas hung on her back.

Kicking the base door open, she headed to Lucas's apartment and slowly placed Lucas on his bed. She turned to Loki and Ken, who stood beside her.

"Did you get any black ginsengs?"

Both searched their jackets and handed over two blue black roots to her.

"Alright, thanks. Leave, please." She knelt by Lucas's bed.

"Hey, come with me. I will attend to your wounds." Mary's voice came from the behind as she dragged Loki and Ken out. The door closed behind with a thud.

"Damn you, Lucas," Lisa said as she squeezed the ginseng in her hands. Blue black liquid poured over his bare chest. She squeezed harder as more drops fell. She threw the root onto the floor. Taking her finger into her mouth, she bit into it and moved the finger over Lucas's body. A drop of blood touched the liquid.

"Healing blood might."

She pressed both palms on his chest. Her blue eyes grew a small hue of green as she focused on guiding the mixture across his wounds and ears. She elevated in the air with Lucas's body.

"Let there be life."

She pressed her palms further across Lucas's chest. His body gave a green glow as his wounds healed rapidly. The plants in his room started withering. Lisa's eyes turned completely green as she pressed further. She coughed and felt her vision blur.

"Just a few more," she shouted.

She descended down with Lucas's body onto the bed. Her eye glow retreated as they returned to their blue hue. She stood and pulled the sheets over Lucas, watching him breathe steadily. She turned to walk toward the door, but her legs gave out. She tried to avoid a fall, but as she fell, the door opened and she fell into strong arms.

Ray stood at the entrance of Lucas's room. He pressed his lips together as he held Lisa in his arms. He carried her into his arms, watching her bony face and pale skin.

"Do you have to always try killing yourself for this honey badger?"

He turned his back and walked out. He had just arrived with Pan, Joycelyn, Jon, and Tars from a mission. The storm had driven them home early. He had met Ken and Loki in an argument as Mary tried to calm them both down. Asking about what happened, he was briefed. He left the situation for Jon and Joycelyn to handle and rushed to find Lisa. He knew Lisa would use her bloodline attribute to heal that savage. He was right. He stared at Lisa in his arms.

Walking slowly, he opened the doorway to the hall. As he opened it, Loki and Ken shouted, "Is Lucas alright?!"

Jon and Joycelyn tried to hold them down as they rushed toward him. Looking at them, Ray focused his gaze at them. Everyone in the room went quiet and stood in place. He walked slowly up the stairs. He reached a door and opened it. The flavor of mint hit his nostrils. He closed the door behind him. The room was lit with candle lights. The bed sat in the center. Many flower pots were arranged around the room.

Ray placed Lisa on the bed. He brushed her white hair away with his hand gently. Lisa touched his hand.

"Hey, beautiful. It's me." He whispered into her ear.

"Ray." Lisa let go of his hand and opened her eyes, staring at him. The flowers in the pots started withering as she regained a bit of strength. She watched as he unzipped her jacket and pulled her closer, removing it gently. He removed her boots and leather pants. He pulled the sheets to cover her as she lay there in her underwear. She stared at him as he placed the clothes on the table, removed his jacket, kicked his boots, and proceeded to join her in the bed.

He lay beside her, staring at the ceiling, breathing steadily. He felt her hand brush across his chest as she found her way to him.

"Are you angry?" she asked.

He placed his arms around her. "A bit. You can't be saving that clown all the time." He kissed her hairline. He felt her shiver. Rubbing her body, he whispered, "Your North Alpha is here now."

"Mmh." Lisa said as she kissed his bare skin.
