Chapter 66 - Chapter 66: Tears of Atonement and the Breathless Wait in Darkness

On that mournful evening at the Junagarh palace, when Rupanjan slowly opened his eyes, it felt as if his entire world had been turned upside down. Sitting in the chair, he stared blankly ahead, but there was no life in his gaze. When Snigdha desperately tried to hold his hand, Rupanjan jerked it away with a sudden motion. His voice was laced with a mixture of intense hatred and mountain-like pain. Rupanjan spoke in a searing tone, "Princess, am I dreaming? The girl whom I had placed in my heart like a goddess, was she about to throw away her honor like this? I never imagined you could fall so low! Just because you are a Princess, did you think you could crush my pure love under your feet like this?"

Sobbing uncontrollably, Snigdha fell at Rupanjan's feet. She said in a trembling voice, "Believe me, Rupanjan, I didn't understand. Those friends poisoned my mind in such a way that I became blind. Give me one chance; I cannot live with the burden of this crime!" But Rupanjan was turned to stone by the pain. Standing up and walking away with steady steps, he said, "There is a difference between a mistake and betrayal, Snigdha. From today, our paths are separate. I don't even feel like speaking to you anymore."

Rupanjan began to leave, and Snigdha started running after him like a maniac, shouting, "Don't go, Rupanjan! Don't leave me!" Days passed. Snigdha abandoned her royal meals; dark circles formed under her eyes. She spent her time in hunger and sleeplessness, merely begging for Rupanjan's forgiveness. When Rupanjan heard that Snigdha was wasting away without food, his loyal heart could no longer remain indifferent. He thought, no matter what happens, I love her. How can I bear to see her in this pain?

Finally, Rupanjan stood before Snigdha. He said in a grave voice, "Fine, Snigdha, I am giving you one last chance. But remember, if such news ever reaches my ears a second time, I will end my own life. Will you be able to willingly let me die then?" Snigdha's heart shuddered, but placing her hand on Rupanjan's head, she took a solemn oath, "I swear by you, Rupanjan, you will never hear the name of another man from my lips. If I make a mistake again, I will tell you to die myself; I will stand by and watch your death. But give me this one last chance." Rupanjan sighed and forgave her, but both realized that it would take a long time to regain that old trust in their relationship.

Meanwhile, in the dark cell of the prison, Sushila was hissing like a venomous snake today. She was trying to win over that old traitorous guard once again. She whispered, "Get me out of here tonight. Arohi is away; this is the chance to finish off her children." But today, luck was not on Sushila's side. Prafulla himself had come to inspect every prison cell, sword in hand. Seeing Prafulla's sharp gaze, Sushila remained hidden in the darkness of the cell corner out of fear. She watched as Prafulla inspected the cells of every traitorous friend and the lecherous boy to ensure they could not escape by any means.

Because of Prafulla's strict guard, all of Sushila's plans were foiled today. Gnashing her teeth, she said to herself, "If not today, then tomorrow before the sun sets, I will surely get out of this hell. Tomorrow, when Prafulla becomes even slightly careless, I will play a holi of blood in the Junagarh palace!" That demonic plan of Sushila's cast an ominous shadow on the walls of the dark prison, signaling a major impending danger.
