Chapter 339: Origin Body
He woke before the light reached the gorge floor.
The walls still held the dark high above. Down here the air was cold and still. Soren was already up. One notebook lay open to a blank page. An instrument sat at the field's edge, its dial turned to a range it had never been asked to read. Mira sat near, vault pair in her lap, the shells giving off their faint steady light. Yara stood back, notebook closed for once, watching.
Kai walked to the center of the field and sat down on the old stone.
He did not reach for the carrier function. There was nothing to build. He only let himself go still — first the body, then the part of him that filed things, the part the system had meant when it said begin when still. He let that part quiet too.
The four bonds turned toward him. The archive broadcast below. The Source ran its deep thread further down.
He stopped holding the membrane back.
The heat came first.
