SF Chapter 144: Christmas Eve
It was Christmas Eve, and the family gathered that morning at Daniel's house for one of their traditions.
Phil and Claire, Gloria and Jay, and Mitchell, Cam, and Lily were there. The rest of the kids were in the bedrooms, since Dani had urged them to change into the outfits he had bought.
Prudence had already shown up (in fact, she had slept there). Lexi would be arriving soon, since she had gone back home the night before.
Prudence and Dani were talking when Phil and Claire approached.
"My sister and her husband," Dani commented to her.
She glanced at him from the corner of her eye. "Can I have a little fun?"
"Go ahead," he smirked, receiving a matching smirk from her.
"Hi, this is the first time I've seen you here," Claire said as she arrived.
"Hello, I'm Prudence," she introduced herself. "A friend of Dani," she added with a polite smile.
"Claire," the blonde greeted.
"Phil," he smiled, already giving Dani an almost thumbs-up.
"So, Prudence, where did you meet my brother?" Claire asked, already sounding a little judgmental.
"I took his V-card."
Phil immediately spat out what he was drinking, while Claire exclaimed, "What?!"
"His Visa card. His credit card," Prudence explained, her expression completely innocent.
"That's what we call it in Europe. I go to an all-girls boarding school there," she added.
Daniel remained completely poker-faced, as if none of this had anything to do with him.
"Uh-huh..." Claire said, looking at her very suspiciously. "And how did that happen?"
"We bumped into each other and dropped our things. I accidentally picked up his V-card."
She continued, "But I figured it out pretty quickly."
"Duh," Prudence mocked herself. "Not only did the card get declined, I quickly realized it didn't even have my name on it."
"Ha, that's a funny story," Phil chuckled, amused by the innocence of the story. "And then?"
"We met, talked, hit it off, and I took his virginity."
Phil choked on his drink again, while Dani burst out laughing.
"Daniel!" Claire yelled.
"What?" he asked. "The only thing she lied about was calling the Visa card a V-card. The rest is a true story. We exchanged our V-cards! And our Visa cards!"
"Oh, wait. I think hers was a MasterCard..." he muttered.
"Ouch, ouch," he soon complained as Claire started squeezing his shoulder hard.
"And you..." Claire looked back at Prudence, but she interrupted her.
"Hey, no need to make mistaken assumptions about me," she defended herself. "When I met Dani, he wasn't famous or rich."
"No, I was basically rich," Dani corrected her, "but Dad didn't let me have easy access to the money from the Wimpy Kid books."
"Anyway," she dismissed him, "I paid for most of the whipped cream, strawberries, and chocolate."
"What?!" Claire exclaimed.
"Toppings. We had ice cream our first time."
Then Prudence made a face, adding, "A date. Ice cream as a date. First date." Almost as if she were saying, 'What are you two thinking?'
Claire also made a face. "Okay, we're going to talk to my other brother. The more normal one."
"I'm just conflicted about which of the two I should warn to be careful." She pointed at one and then the other.
The married couple walked away, and Dani looked at her. "I knew you were talking about our first date-"
"Because we didn't have ice cream in our first time," she finished.
"Whipped cream, strawberries, and chocolate, we definitely made a mess," he laughed.
"Dad," Dani said, giving him a hug as he stood next to Gloria.
"This is my dad, Jay, and his wife, Gloria," he introduced, then gestured to the girl. "This is Prudence."
They all exchanged greetings, and she spoke up right away.
"Whoa, I can see where Dani gets all his charm and looks," she complimented Jay, giving him an appreciative glance.
Obviously, Jay liked the compliment.
"And we're really alike, Gloria," she added, stepping closer to the Latina, "but I wasn't as blessed," she joked, briefly glancing downward at Gloria.
Gloria laughed. "You are a gorgeous girl," she said, giving Prudence a hug. "And they can still grow," she whispered, loud enough for the others to hear.
"We have similar tastes," Prudence smiled, "but you like yours Medium, while I prefer mine a little raw."
They laughed, while Dani made a mock offended face.
"Hey, I'm clearly medium rare, while Dad is past well done," he mocked.
"Daniel!" Jay scoffed.
They talked a little more, and this time Prudence went off to chat on her own with a couple, Mitchell and Cam. Claire and Phil had probably gone to change as well.
Cam was holding Lily in his arms.
"Let me guess," she said as she approached, "is that French style?"
She quickly blended in with them, complimenting their style and effortlessly keeping up with their conversations.
At one point, she even confided in them, "I'm in an all-girls boarding school, so it happened once… or more," she whispered.
But she quickly added, "but I'm not one of those annoying lesbians."
"Oh, they are terrible," Cam remarked.
Mitchell immediately admonished him, "Cam."
But he covered Lily's ears and whispered, "Yes, they are."
[Cam and Mitchell commentary]
"Lesbians," Mitchell started. "While often lumped together, gay men and lesbians have less in common than one might think."
"Like in a Venn diagram of sexual identity," Cam explained, "you have gay men... and straight men - both the same gender. Then you have gay men... and straight women - both attracted to the same gender."
He continued, "But gay men and lesbians? No overlap."
They even made circles with their arms, bumping them together to show there was no intersection.

At one point, the Pritchett trio was talking among themselves - Mitchell, Claire, and Jay.
"I think Dani should totally go for her," Mitch commented. "Prudence is amazing. She's funny and smart."
He held back from saying what he had in mind - that she swung both ways, and that his brother might be hitting the jackpot. Little did he know, Dani already had.
"She seems like a nice girl," Jay nodded.
"No, no, no," Claire immediately denied.
[Claire commentary]
"I've already spent almost eighteen years dealing with one of those," Claire complained, "and now they want to add one more?"
"She's clearly like Dani - I can sense the same vibe," she said, taking a deep breath.
