Chapter 77 - Chapter 75: Fireside Chat

"Stop the carriage for a moment."

Uchiha Shū reached out his hand, and the Uchiha Clan Jonin driving the carriage immediately slowed the wheels. Carefully, they supported the elderly man as he prepared to step out.

"Support me. I want to ask those two Ninjas a few questions," Uchiha Shū said, curiosity sparkling in his eyes.

Shū's interest in the Land of Water surpassed even that of Tsunade. Unlike her, he already knew that the entire Land of Water—and even Hidden Mist Village—was under the careful management of Uchiha Su.

"Why are you helping this farmer? Don't you find it embarrassing?" he asked, approaching the two Hidden Mist Ninjas assisting the local villagers.

One of the Ninjas glanced at the clan crest on Shū's robe and asked, "Is the elderly gentleman from the Uchiha Clan?"

"That's right. I am Uchiha Shū from Konoha. By the Young Lord's invitation, I have come to attend his succession ceremony as the Uchiha Clan Head," Shū replied with a nod.

"Then the elderly gentleman is a distinguished guest of our Hidden Mist," the Ninja said with a smile, bowing respectfully.

"I am Sakanaka Ryosuke, a Chunin of Hidden Mist. In response to the orders of the seii taishōgun and successor to the Mizukage, Lord Su, I have set aside my missions to help the people of the Land of Water farm their lands," he explained earnestly.

"I do the same," the other Ninja added. "All missions in the Hidden Mist are temporarily backlogged. Except for urgent matters, our top priority is assisting civilians with agriculture."

"Also, Elder, you were mistaken. It is not embarrassing for Ninjas to help civilians farm. Protecting the people is our duty, not just killing enemies. These are the teachings of Lord Su, and I would never forget them for a moment," Ryosuke said, pointing toward fishermen hauling in a large catch with assistance from Hōzuki Clan Ninjas.

"Most of the Ninjas helping the fishermen are from the Hōzuki Clan," he continued. "With their Hydrification Technique, they can protect an entire boat of fishermen, even in turbulent waters."

Uchiha Shū's gaze shifted to the utility poles along the road. "What are those speakers being installed for?"

He felt a quiet resonance with Hashirama's ideals, the reason he had remained loyal to Konoha and never followed Uchiha Madara in leaving. Those ideals had once seemed fragile, impossible to fully uphold, but here, in this country shaped by Su, they were taking form.

"Those are broadcasts," Ryosuke replied. "They allow Lord Su's voice to reach every corner of the country. He calls them Fireside Chats."

Shū smiled faintly, his eyes glinting with satisfaction. The sight of this vibrant, peaceful activity was a balm to his weary soul. He had long grown tired of endless Ninja warfare. Witnessing a country alive with labor and laughter stirred in him a rare sense of joy.

Meanwhile, Tsunade, Orochimaru, and Jiraiya had scattered to explore. Even the composed Orochimaru laughed freely, letting the younger ones pull him into playful mischief.

Soon, the speakers were ready. As they began to hum to life, the workers paused and looked curiously at the devices. Then a clear, authoritative voice resonated across the fields:

"Hello, people of the Land of Water. I am Uchiha Su, humble seii taishōgun of this land and successor to the Hidden Mist's Mizukage. Today, I deliver my first Fireside Chat."

"I have dispatched nearly ninety percent of the Ninjas in our Village to assist farmers and fishermen. They will earn only a meager reward, barely enough for a meal outside. However, the Village will subsidize these wages, ensuring that no one loses out."

He continued with measured authority: "If local nobles abuse, insult, or harm people, you may report it to the dispatched Ninjas. If verified, the noble will be executed and their property confiscated. If a Ninja colludes with the nobles, do not fear. Every six months, I will dispatch trusted Anbu directly under my command to investigate grievances and uphold justice."

Uchiha Shū listened quietly, pride swelling in his chest. This young man, once a child in Konoha, had matured into someone truly worthy of leadership. Madara's choice had been flawless.

"In one day, I will succeed as Uchiha Clan Head. On this day, all restaurants across the country shall provide free meals to the public. Please send expenses to Hidden Mist Village; the Village will reimburse all costs."

"With that, the Fireside Chat concludes. I wish the people of the Land of Water happiness, joy, and good health. I look forward to our next broadcast."

In a small village, a farmer wearing a straw raincoat stopped his work, smiling at the speaker.

"Su will carry my dreams. He will surpass even Hashirama. The world will see that Hashirama's way was not the only path," he whispered.

Meanwhile, in Hidden Mist Village, Uchiha Su addressed his aide Hattori Tarō, adjusting his glasses.

"Hattori-san, you've developed the broadcast system remarkably quickly," Su said with a smile.

"It is thanks to your support, General. Without it, I don't know when this would have been possible," Hattori replied sincerely.

He hesitated before continuing. "As for the air conditioner you requested… frankly, there is little need for it here. Winters are managed with coal and firewood, while summers are naturally cool. Installing air conditioners would be largely unnecessary."

Su smiled faintly, considering the practicality of the suggestion. Even a genius like Hattori could only work within the limits of the Land of Water's climate.

The Land of Water had changed, shaped by Su's vision—Ninjas no longer merely fighters, but protectors and helpers, a nation alive with both discipline and vitality. And everywhere, Su's voice carried, binding the people to a new era.
