"The final begins."
Asta's trio and Yuno's trio stood facing each other.
"Mimosa, and you, cool red-haired guy, for this match, I hope you two won't interfere," Asta said as he looked at his teammates.
"Yuno, go ahead. Asta has been waiting for this battle for a long time."
Noelle kicked Yuno forward and stepped aside, watching with great interest.
Instead of getting angry, Yuno bowed slightly to Noelle.
Asta pulled out his Demon-Slayer Sword, preparing for close combat, but Yuno gave him no chance. A wind vortex surged beneath his feet, lifting him into the air.
"Asta, bring out that strange state of yours."
"Strange state? You mean Black Form? I can't do it. I can only use it twice a day, and each time it lasts five minutes," Asta said, scratching his head sheepishly.
"Then you're going to lose. You can't even touch me, so how could you possibly defeat me?"
Wind Magic: Gale White Bow
Asta drew his Demon-Destroyer Sword as well. He held the anti-magic blade in his left hand and the Demon-Slayer Sword in his right.
"Yuno, this is something I prepared specifically for you."
"Eight Gates, Gate of Opening, open. Gate of Healing, open. Gate of Life, open. Gate of Pain, open. Gate of Limit..."
A terrifying surge of energy erupted from Asta's body. His skin turned red, and green steam began rising from him.
"Gate of Limit, open!"
"Yuno!"
Asta pushed off the ground and vanished instantly.
In the air, Yuno felt a sudden sense of danger. Where did Asta go?
The moment he turned his head, a pitch-black sword was already in front of him.
Damn it, how did Asta get behind me? I didn't sense anything.
Wind Magic: Fang of the Storm
Asta disappeared again, and Yuno's attack struck nothing but air.
A sharp slash rang out.
The black blade struck Yuno and sent him crashing from the sky into the ground, forming a crater.
What just happened? I didn't even see him move. This makes no sense.
"Is this Asta's new power?" the Wizard King said, watching with clear excitement.
"What happened? I only saw a few afterimages, and then Yuno got slammed into the ground."
"How did that black-clad kid do that?"
"Yuno, you won't be flying anymore, will you?" Asta appeared again, his wounds reopening from the strain.
He struck Yuno twice more while he was down, ending the battle decisively. The Demon-Slayer Sword disrupted mana, while the anti-magic sword absorbed it. Together, they completely drained Yuno.
"Team B wins."
The final ended abruptly, but everyone now understood that the short boy in black was not someone to underestimate.
Back at the base, Asta was in high spirits. His body felt like it was falling apart from opening the Eight Gates, but this was the first time he had defeated Yuno fairly. It meant everything to him.
"By the way, has anyone seen Big Brother Cedric?"
The Black Bulls members all shook their heads. Cedric was always elusive.
"I'll send him a message."
Noelle took out her communication grimoire and sent a message, but Cedric was far too busy to respond. He was still in the middle of something.
"Seems like he's busy."
Asta lay on the sofa, wincing every time he moved. If he had known, he would have opened fewer gates.
Meanwhile
"Master, you're amazing."
Cedric ran his fingers slowly through Melf's long hair, his touch lingering deliberately.
"You're not bad either, my little baby. You've got stamina I didn't expect," Cedric said with a low chuckle, his tone teasing and deliberately suggestive.
The pendant beside the bed suddenly lit up, but neither of them noticed. They were far too focused on what they were doing, and losing focus now would only make things worse.
Golden Dawn Base
"Asta... I lost to Asta..."
Yuno sat in the corner of his room, wrapped in a blanket, his eyes bloodshot.
The door opened, and William Vangeance stepped in.
"My poor child, once everything returns to its true form, it will all be fine."
"Really, Captain Vangeance?"
"Yes, I promise. Yuno, our goal is close. I have a mission for you, and you must complete it."
Vangeance leaned in and whispered into Yuno's ear before leaving the room.
Three days later
Cedric rubbed his lower back as he walked.
"As expected of the Witch Queen. Her mana and endurance are actually on par with mine," he muttered.
Returning to the base, Cedric collapsed onto a bed and fell asleep instantly.
Finally, some damn rest.
In the hall, Asta opened his eyes, got up, did a few push-ups, and then lay flat again.
"Secret Technique: Rapid Sit-ups."
"The tingling in my body is finally gone. I can train again. I wonder if Big Brother Cedric is back?"
Elsewhere, Vanessa finally fell into a deep sleep, completely exhausted. The state of the bedsheets made it obvious she had not had an easy few days.
"The news about the Royal Knights selection still hasn't come. Did the Royal Capital forget about the Black Bulls?" Asta muttered as he started jumping rope.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Hearing the knocking, Magna, Luck, Grey, and the others came out.
"Coming! Stop knocking already!"
Magna slowly walked to the door, but it suddenly burst open and collapsed on top of him.
"Big Sis Mereoleona, why are you here?"
The hot-tempered Mereoleona Vermillion punched Asta straight in the face.
"My name is Mereoleona!"
"What the hell is going on? It's been so noisy I can't even take a dump in peace, you idiots," said Yami Sukehiro as he walked out, only to freeze when he saw her.
"Crap, a wild beast has invaded. Everyone, evacuate immediately. If you can't escape, play dead!"
A massive flaming lion's paw slammed down and pinned Yami to the ground. Mereoleona casually set down a bottle of strong alcohol.
"Shut up, idiot."
"Is this that drink that burns your throat with one sip?"
"This is a gift. Your Black Bulls performed exceptionally well in the Royal Knights selection."
"I don't need gifts. And anything you like definitely isn't meant for humans to drink. I'm not touching it."
After a very one-sided negotiation, Yami accepted the gift.
"So that's it. Lady Mereoleona came to deliver a gift. I thought I was about to get dragged off somewhere again," Asta said with relief.
A flaming hand suddenly grabbed Asta by the head, and at the same time, snatched up Noelle and Luck.
"I'm taking you three with me."
"Where are you taking us? To hell? Help, Captain Yami!"
"Why am I being grabbed too? I just came to watch!" Noelle shouted, her eyes turning blank with shock.
Luck, on the other hand, looked thrilled.
"Will there be strong people there?"
"Captain, your squad members are being kidnapped!" Noelle shouted desperately, kicking and flailing while signaling frantically to Yami.
Yami calmly took a drag from his cigarette and exhaled.
"It's fine, Noelle. She'll bring you back when she's done. Big Sis brought a gift. It'd be rude to refuse."
Yami glanced at the strong alcohol on the ground and sighed.
