The path leading underground was not made of stone.
It felt alive.
The walls were pale, fleshy pink, with vein-like patterns pulsing slowly through them. A damp warmth filled the tunnel, along with a sickly sweet smell that made the air hard to breathe.
Noelle raised a Water Magic barrier around the group, keeping the sticky fluid away from their bodies.
"This place is disgusting... where are we?" she muttered.
Cedric walked at the front, his Rinnegan active.
"This isn't a sanctuary. It's more like the inside of a living creature."
In his vision, the walls moved.
Tiny tendrils stretched and twisted, trying to wrap around their legs.
"Fire Release: Dragon Fire Technique."
A stream of intense flames shot forward, burning away the fleshy growths ahead. Instead of blood, black Chakra fluid oozed out.
"Don't touch the ground directly," Cedric warned, "This entire place is alive."
Everyone immediately adjusted, using magic to stay slightly above the surface.
Asta cut down several creeping tendrils with his swords.
"Cedric, what exactly are we dealing with? Is this connected to that shadow thing again?"
Cedric's expression darkened.
"It's worse."
The tunnel suddenly opened into a massive chamber.
At its center floated a glowing blue crystal.
Wrapped around it was a massive white serpent.
Its scales gleamed like polished metal, its enormous body coiling tightly around the crystal. Its cold, vertical pupils locked onto the group.
Cedric's eyes narrowed instantly.
That presence.
It was unmistakable.
"Orochimaru..."
But this felt older.
More complete.
The serpent opened its mouth.
Instead of a hiss, a deep male voice echoed through the chamber.
"So, a bearer of the Sage's eyes has arrived."
Cedric remained still, his hands already forming seals.
"Who are you?"
The serpent tilted its head slightly.
"I am an exiled being. A forgotten god. You may call me the White Snake Sage."
Cedric's mind sharpened.
Ryuchi Cave.
A place tied to Sage Mode.
Yet this creature existed here.
"You're not from this world," Cedric said.
The White Snake Sage chuckled.
"No. I was born here. What you call another world is merely a reflection of this one."
The air grew heavier.
"This world was once a garden for the gods," the serpent continued, slowly shifting its massive body, "The Otsutsuki planted the Divine Tree and harvested Chakra. I was born from it."
It glanced at the glowing crystal.
"That is my core. The source of this world's energy."
Asta blinked.
"So that thing is the source of magic?"
"Exactly," the serpent replied, "Magic is nothing more than a variation of Chakra."
Cedric absorbed every word.
If this was true, everything changed.
"Why tell us all this?" he asked.
The serpent's gaze locked onto him.
"Because I want freedom."
Its voice lowered.
"I need a vessel. And you are perfect."
Before anyone could react, it moved.
Its massive body shot forward like lightning.
Asta instantly stepped in front.
"You're not touching him!"
He swung both swords.
"Black Hurricane Cross Slash!"
The attack cut through the air.
But the serpent split apart into countless smaller snakes, slipping through the attack and wrapping around Asta.
"Asta!"
His Anti-Magic faded.
White Chakra replaced it.
His eyes dulled.
Cedric's expression turned cold.
"What did you do to him?"
"I showed him the truth," the White Snake Sage replied calmly, reforming its body, "Now it's your turn."
Cedric raised his hand.
"Shinra Tensei."
A powerful force blasted the serpent backward.
"You want my body? Try taking it."
Chakra surged again.
"Sage Art: True Several Thousand Hands."
The massive wooden construct appeared once more, its countless fists crashing down.
But the serpent split again, avoiding the attack and wrapping around Cedric's body.
"It's useless," the voice echoed in his mind, "My body is made of Chakra."
Cedric's thoughts raced.
Normal attacks wouldn't work.
He needed the core.
The serpent seemed to smile.
"Can you find it?"
Cedric closed his eyes.
He focused completely.
Within the vast sea of Chakra, he searched.
Then he found it.
A faint blue light.
The core.
Cedric's eyes snapped open.
"Got you."
A Truth-Seeking Orb formed into a black staff in his hand.
"Six Paths: Staff Pierce."
He struck forward.
The staff pierced through the serpent's body and hit the glowing core.
A piercing scream echoed through the chamber.
The serpent shattered.
Its body dissolved into countless particles of white Chakra.
Asta collapsed as the control faded, and Cedric caught him.
Asta blinked weakly.
"What just happened?"
"It's over," Cedric said quietly.
But it wasn't.
In his hand, a small white seed remained.
The core.
The system activated.
Cedric stared at it for a moment.
Then made his choice.
"Integrate."
Power flowed into his body.
A new energy.
Cold and ancient.
Behind him, the phantom of a white serpent appeared briefly.
Ryuchi Cave Sage Mode.
Deep within that power, a voice echoed once more.
"Welcome to the real world."
