Chapter 10 - Status

Ray sat on the edge of the bed in the new upper room, the key Seris gave him on the small side table. His collar was still locked, but the area around him felt quieter and cleaner than anything he had experienced since waking in this world.

He fully opened the system window for the first time since waking up in this world, with the blue text spreading across his vision in more detail than the brief flashes he saw during the night.

Ray examined the numbers quietly; the unused skill points had disturbed him in the back of his head.g

He concentrated on the points, revealing a new set of options beneath them.

[Skill Point Allocation Available]

– Strengthen Heavenly Thrust (50 points)

– Enhance Six Winged Physique (75 points)

– Reinforce Indomitable Spirit (50 points)

– Unlock New Skill Slot (100 points)

He left the points unchanged for now, thinking it was wiser to learn about the city and private booking rules first before making any permanent decisions.

Afterwards, he closed the deeper menus and allowed the main window to shrink into a faint edge in his view.

The room remained silent, only the gentle sound of his breathing breaking the quiet. The bed was firmer and cleaner than the staff cot downstairs, and the private wash area in the corner was still untouched.

Ray stood and assessed the space, rolling his shoulders beneath his black shirt.

Despite being busy and expected to be quite exhausted, he felt remarkably fine, which he credited to the aid of [Six Winged Physique].

He was still deciding whether to wash or rest first when a polite knock sounded at the door.

Ray opened it to reveal a young woman in a tidy dark maid uniform, her hair pulled back neatly, her expression composed and professional as she looked up at him.

"Ray," she said, confirming rather than asking, "Lady Seris has ordered that you be taken into the city today for proper clothing; the staff uniform is not suitable for private bookings with higher clients."

She stepped aside slightly, making it clear she expected him to follow.

"I am Lira, one of Lady Seris's personal maids. I will accompany you; the wrist marker will remain active, so there is no concern about you wandering off."

Ray glanced at the thin metal band on his left wrist, then back at her.

"Just clothes?"

"Clothes, and a basic orientation of the main streets near the Black Orchid," Lira answered. "Lady Seris prefers her private stock to know the surrounding area in case of escorted outings; we will not go far."

She waited with patient stillness while Ray stepped back inside, picked up the key, and locked the room behind him.

They moved quietly along the upper corridor, then took a different staircase away from the night hall, emerging through a side entrance into a small, private courtyard where a modest covered carriage was waiting.

Lira climbed in first and sat across from him once he followed, the carriage starting to move with a smooth roll of the wheels as soon as the door closed.

"The capital's outer market district is closest," she explained as buildings passed beyond the curtains. "We will find sturdy clothing there that fits the standard Lady Seris expects- nothing flashy, nothing that marks you as common staff."

Ray watched the city move past the gaps in the curtains.

The stone streets were broader than he anticipated, and the architecture combined fantasy-era design with sporadic modern-looking crystal lamp posts, creating a peculiar semi-advanced atmosphere he had noticed since arriving.

The carriage gradually slowed and came to a halt near a quieter section of road lined with shops. Lira was the first to step out, waiting for him to follow before she headed down a side path that wove between the buildings toward the market.

The path was narrower than the main streets, lined with tall trees that cast long shadows across the packed dirt, the sound of the busier roads fading the further they walked.

Ray followed a few steps behind her, the system window still faintly visible at the edge of his vision, the 155 skill points waiting, while the trees thickened on both sides and the path curved deeper between them.

Lira glanced back once to make sure he was still close, then continued forward at a steady pace, unaware of the faint movement that had already begun among the trunks further ahead.
