Chapter 89 - You Can Fly?

In the Great Hall, the students watched the projection as Barty Crouch announced Claven's elimination.

Cassius and Chris looked at each other in disbelief. Suddenly Cassius shouted,

"He did it! Sean Grylls defeated the Daywalker!"

Chris was startled by Cassius's outburst. On the projection, they could only see Charlie and Aigelbert chasing each other through the sky. Ever since Sean had entered the forest, she hadn't been able to find him.

Then Claven had flown into the woods on his broom, and Chris had begun worrying about the moment the two might meet.

"Sean! Sean! Sean!"

Cassius took the lead in chanting Sean's name, and the second-year students quickly joined in.

Soon the Slytherin first-years followed. Then students from other houses and grades joined the chant.

Before long, the entire Great Hall echoed with the name "Sean!"

"So he's the real secret weapon of Hogwarts," said Professor Conrad Coates of Uagadou, smiling toward Dumbledore in congratulations.

Has the gap between us really become this large? Cedric wondered as he applauded.

Cedric and Chris ranked second and third in their year academically. But now he truly realized that the distance between second place and first place was like an uncrossable chasm.

At the arena, Crouch carried the unconscious Claven back to the Ilvermorny side. Professor Kailyn quickly cast a counter-charm, removing both the Stunning and Petrification effects.

"Professor… I'm sorry," Claven said bitterly, his fangs slightly visible.

"I was careless. I actually lost to a second-year."

"Dean, bring the deer blood," Kailyn said calmly. "Rest for now."

After drinking the fresh blood, Claven returned to normal. Dean pulled him aside and whispered,

"What happened? Did you really lose to a second-year?"

Claven looked at him expressionlessly.

"If you really treat him like a second-year… you're dead."

The fact that this boy could cast wandless magic was already shocking.

But he could also cast with both hands simultaneously.

Claven himself could use dual casting—but he had only mastered it in his fourth year, and even that had relied heavily on his half-vampire bloodline.

Looking back now, even if he had fought seriously from the start, he wasn't sure he could defeat that monstrous second-year.

Meanwhile, the aerial pursuit between Charlie and Aigelbert continued.

But their casting frequency had slowed noticeably. Even though they weren't standing still and trading spells, the battle had lasted a long time.

"Professor," Claven said seriously.

"Tonight we should talk with the other two teams."

Sean, after his intense duel with Claven and summoning Fawkes, estimated that he only had enough magic left for four or five Petrification Charms.

But Charlie and Aigelbert were flying high—over twenty meters above the ground.

At that distance, even Sean's accuracy would suffer.

When Aigelbert saw Claven eliminated, his pressure skyrocketed.

Now he had to deal with Charlie while also guarding against Sean's attacks from below.

So he deliberately raised his altitude even higher.

Then—

Sean suddenly appeared in the air.

Aigelbert's heart skipped a beat.

From the limited intelligence Ilvermorny had gathered, there had been one key piece of information about Sean:

Sean Grylls, Slytherin second-year. Excellent academic performance. Except flying class—failed.

Conclusion: Sean Grylls cannot fly.

And since Sean hadn't taken to the air at the start of the match, that assumption had seemed correct.

"You… can fly?" Aigelbert blurted out.

To shorten the casting distance, Sean had mounted the broom Claven dropped and flown into the sky.

He didn't rise very high—only about ten meters—but that was enough to aim at Aigelbert.

"Damn it. Who told me he couldn't fly?"

Aigelbert immediately veered sideways and climbed higher again.

Charlie pursued him closely.

Compared to them, Sean looked like an old lady crossing the street with a cane—slow and cautious.

But if Aigelbert widened the distance again, Sean would lose his chance.

Sean gripped the broom with one hand and waved his wand with the other.

Four times.

Four Petrification Charms.

One struck Aigelbert's broom, causing it to stall briefly midair.

Charlie seized the opportunity instantly.

"Stupefy!"

The Stunning Spell hit directly.

Aigelbert fell from his broom.

Crouch flew in quickly, cast a Levitation Charm on him, and delivered him back to Kailyn.

"We won! We won!"

Zach danced with excitement.

Percy and Penelope exchanged smiles.

Professor McGonagall clapped lightly and said,

"Let's go welcome our teammates back."

Sean was slowly descending.

If I'd mastered the Flying Charm earlier, this wouldn't be so embarrassing, he thought.

His flying ability was honestly terrible.

Watching him descend carefully, he looked like a first-year student in their very first flying lesson.

"Incredible!" Zach exclaimed, throwing an arm around Sean's shoulders.

"You actually flew up there and hit him!"

Everyone on the team knew Sean's flying skills were… questionable.

Their training strategy had always been one fighter in the air and one on the ground.

Seeing Sean suddenly appear in the sky had nearly given them heart attacks.

"I just did my best," Sean said weakly, his eyelids drooping with exhaustion.

"Charlie and Sean need rest," McGonagall said.

She led them back to the castle and obtained two Magic Recovery Potions from Snape.

That evening at dinner, Charlie and Sean became the center of attention.

Especially Sean.

He had defeated a Daywalker three years older than him in a duel—and then helped Charlie take down Aigelbert.

From that night onward, the Slytherin first-years constantly talked about Senior Sean in front of Gryffindor students.

We Slytherins have Sean Grylls, a legendary senior.

You Gryffindors don't.

"Honestly," Fred said to George, staring at Sean.

"I don't think the word 'genius' even fits him anymore."

"How about 'peerless genius'?" George said, raising an eyebrow toward Sean.

Sean sighed.

"That sounds ridiculously cheesy."

"Seriously though," George continued.

"You made Hogwarts proud today. You should've seen the professors' faces in the Great Hall—they looked so proud when you won."

"But genius," Fred added with a grin.

"Your Quidditch skills are absolutely terrible."

The Weasley twins were both on the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and their flying skills were excellent.

In their eyes, Sean's flying ability was painful to watch.

After dinner, Sean went to Snape's office as usual for his two-hour time travel session.

But Snape suggested he rest for a day, considering he had just competed that morning.

"It's fine, Professor," Sean insisted.

"I drank the Magic Recovery Potion. I'm fully recovered."

"Please let me continue."

Snape stared at him silently.

After several seconds, he nodded.

The next day, the match between Uagadou and Castelobruxo had little suspense.

Uagadou sent a second-year and a third-year.

Their opponents were a third-year and a fifth-year—both girls.

All four flew on brooms and battled midair.

Unfortunately, no one saw Castelobruxo's famous combination magic.

The Uagadou pair was quickly defeated.

Hogwarts and Castelobruxo advanced.

Ilvermorny and Uagadou would replay the second and third events tomorrow, with the winner advancing.

The Black Tank and the White Assassin, Sean thought.

I really want to see those two fight.

That same night, after losing their match, Uagadou took the initiative to approach Ilvermorny.

Professor Conrad Coates flashed his bright white smile and said to Kailyn,

"Professor Lindsay… how about we cooperate tomorrow?"
