The vault became a killing box.
Victor Whitmore didn't waste time with monologues or posturing. The moment the challenge left Kael's lips, the A-Rank Peak warrior moved.
[GRAVITY PULSE]
A shockwave of invisible force erupted from Victor's body. It wasn't a projectile—it was an instantaneous expansion of his domain. The air itself became solid, compressing into a wall of pressure that slammed into Kael from every direction.
Kael's ribs groaned. His vision blurred. The pressure was immense, like being buried beneath a mountain.
He's not even touching me, Kael realized, his teeth gritted. This is just his aura.
[IMPACT ABSORPTION]
The skill activated, drinking in the kinetic energy. It helped—slightly. The crushing force lessened by a fraction, allowing Kael to keep his knees from buckling.
But Victor was already moving.
The Gravity Knight blurred forward, his heavy sword raised. The blade glowed with a purple light, the metal vibrating at a frequency that distorted the air around it.
Kael forced his body to respond.
[SWIFT STEP: BLINK]
He vanished, reappearing ten meters to the left.
CLANG!
Victor's sword struck the space where Kael had been standing, shattering the reinforced floor. Stone fragments exploded outward, each one accelerated by gravity to bullet speeds.
[PHASE SHIFT]
Kael's body flickered, becoming intangible. The stone bullets passed through his shadowy form harmlessly.
But Phase Shift had a cost. It drained mana rapidly. And against an A-Rank, every second of mana usage mattered.
"Running?" Victor sneered, straightening. He didn't look tired. He didn't look stressed. He looked bored. "I expected more from someone who killed my Shadow Guard."
"He knows," Kael thought, his mind racing. "He knew the moment I walked in."
Victor raised his free hand. The fingers spread wide.
[GRAVITY WELL]
A sphere of darkness appeared above his palm. The air around it began to spiral, drawn toward the center like water down a drain.
Kael felt his body lurch. He was being pulled toward Victor—not by physical force, but by the very weight of his own existence. It was as if gravity itself had decided he belonged at the Knight's feet.
He dug his heels in, shadows clawing at the floor for purchase.
"Your shadow tricks are clever," Victor said calmly, walking forward. "But shadows have no mass. And you cannot escape gravity when you carry the weight of a physical body."
He clenched his fist.
The Gravity Well collapsed.
The pull vanished—and reversed.
Kael was launched backward, slammed into the far wall with bone-rattling force. The impact drove the air from his lungs. He crumpled to the floor, gasping.
SYSTEM ALERT
Damage Sustained: Moderate.
Ribs: Hairline fractures detected.
Mana: 6,800/8,200.
"System," Kael wheezed. "Weapon ability. Now."
He raised his right arm, the Void Shard gauntlet gleaming in the low light.
[EVENT HORIZON]
The blade responded instantly. The black metal hummed, and a ring of absolute darkness formed around Kael's fist.
Victor paused. His eyes narrowed.
Then he laughed. "Good. Let it try."
Victor charged again. This time, he didn't use a slow approach. He used the gravity around his own body to accelerate, moving faster than sound.
BOOM!
The sonic boom shattered the glass cases lining the vault walls.
Kael didn't dodge. He couldn't. Victor was on him in an instant, the heavy sword descending in a vertical arc meant to cleave him in two.
Kael raised his arm.
VOID SHARD: [MANA DEVOURER]
The two weapons met.
There was no clang. No spark.
Instead, the Void Shard drank.
Victor's sword flared with purple light—but the light was pulled into the black blade. The mana reinforcing the weapon was stripped away, devoured by the Void Shard's insatiable hunger.
Victor's eyes widened. "What—"
The heavy sword, stripped of its magical reinforcement, became ordinary steel. And ordinary steel was no match for a Tier-1 artifact.
SNAP.
The blade shattered.
Kael didn't hesitate. He lunged forward, the Void Shard's blade extending.
SLASH.
He caught Victor across the chest. The armor plating—reinforced with gravity magic—parted like silk. Blood sprayed.
Victor roared, stumbling back. He clutched his chest, his face twisted in shock.
"You... you broke my sword?"
Kael advanced, the Void Shard dripping with blood that wasn't his own. The weapon seemed to purr, vibrating with satisfaction.
"It was in the way," Kael said coldly.
Victor's shock twisted into rage. "You little BASTARD!"
[GRAVITY CRUSH: MAXIMUM]
The gravity in the room spiked. Not localized—everywhere.
Kael was flattened to the ground. His face pressed against the stone floor, his body pressed down by the weight of a planet. He couldn't move. He couldn't breathe. His bones creaked audibly.
"I tried to be reasonable," Victor snarled, walking toward Kael. His footsteps were heavy, each one shaking the floor. "I tried to give you a chance to surrender."
He stopped beside Kael's head.
"But you broke my sword. You dared to wound me."
He pressed his foot onto Kael's back.
"Now, I'm going to crush every bone in your body. And then I'm going to take that arm. And when your regeneration fails, I'll make you watch as I—"
"Duck."
The voice came from across the room.
Morgan Whitmore stood by the vault entrance. In her hands was a small, cylindrical device—a mana grenade, military grade.
She pulled the pin.
"Morgan, NO!" Victor shouted.
She threw it.
The grenade landed at Victor's feet.
Kael felt the surge of mana a split second before it detonated.
[BLOOD MANIPULATION: SHIELD]
He forced his blood to the surface of his skin, forming a thin, hardened layer.
BOOM!
The explosion was contained—the vault was reinforced against magical attacks—but the shockwave was still devastating.
Victor was thrown backward, his concentration broken.
The crushing gravity vanished.
Kael gasped, air flooding his lungs. He rolled onto his back, his vision swimming.
[REGENERATION] kicked in. The hairline fractures in his ribs began to knit.
"GET UP!" Morgan screamed. "HE'S RECOVERING!"
Kael forced himself to his feet. Victor was already rising, his face burned, his armor scorched, but his eyes blazing with murderous intent.
"I'll kill you both," Victor growled. "I'll kill you and drain your blood for the experiments. I'll—"
Kael raised his hand.
"System. Use all stored kinetic energy. Transfer to Void Shard."
SYSTEM ALERT
Impact Absorption Reserves: 87%.Transferring...
The Void Shard glowed. A corona of purple light surrounded the blade—the converted kinetic energy of Victor's own attacks, now weaponized against him.
"Victor," Kael said.
The Gravity Knight looked up.
"Eat this."
Kael thrust his arm forward.
[EVENT HORIZON: NOVA]
The Void Shard unleashed everything.
A singularity—a point of infinite density—formed at the tip of the blade. It didn't expand. It simply existed for a fraction of a second.
And in that fraction of a second, it pulled.
Everything not bolted down—debris, shattered glass, even the air itself—was yanked toward the point. Including Victor.
The A-Rank Peak warrior was dragged off his feet, pulled toward the black hole in Kael's hand.
He activated his own gravity powers, trying to resist, but it was too late. The Void Shard's ability was absolute. It didn't care about opposing forces. It only cared about consumption.
Victor slammed into the singularity.
And then it collapsed.
The energy released in a concentrated burst—a blade of pure spatial distortion that passed through Victor's body like he wasn't there.
Time seemed to stop.
Victor hung in the air, his eyes wide.
"How..." he whispered.
Then, the wound opened.
A clean line appeared across his chest—the same line Kael had cut earlier. But now it deepened, splitting open. And below it, a second line appeared across his stomach.
The Void Shard had cut him twice. Once in reality. Once in space.
Victor Whitmore fell to his knees.
Blood pooled beneath him.
He looked at Kael, his expression shifting from rage to confusion to... respect.
"You... fight... like a demon..."
He coughed, spraying crimson.
"Who... are you... really?"
Kael walked up to him. He looked down at the broken warrior.
"I am the end of everything," Kael said quietly.
He placed his hand on Victor's head.
"Goodbye, Victor."
[DEVOUR]
The process was quick. Victor Whitmore—the Gravity Knight, the A-Rank Peak warrior, the would-be Patriarch—shriveled into a husk.

Kael stared at the prompt.
Evolution.
He could feel it—the hunger in his blood, the ache in his teeth, the way the smell of Victor's blood called to him. The Dhampir lineage was stirring, demanding to be awakened.
But not here. Not now.
"Later," he muttered. "System, minimize notification."
He turned to Morgan.
She was standing frozen, staring at the husk of her husband. Her face was pale, her hands trembling.
"I... I killed him," she whispered. "The grenade. I—"
"You saved my life," Kael said bluntly. "And I finished him. Don't waste time on guilt."
He walked toward her.
"We have what we came for. The weapon. The experience. And now, the estate."
He stopped in front of her, lifting her chin with his blood-stained hand.
"Unless there are more obstacles?"
Morgan shook her head quickly. "No. No, with Victor dead... the East Wing guards answer to me. The security system recognizes my biometrics. There's no one else in the estate above B-Rank."
"Good."
Kael released her.
"Clean this up. Secure the estate. And prepare a vehicle."
"Where are we going?"
Kael looked at the Void Shard on his arm. The blade was still now, dormant but ready.
"To find a man named Alaric Vance," Kael said.
He walked toward the elevator.
"And then... we prepare for the Royal Announcement."
