One evening Nalubamba finally gathered the courage to speak.
She approached MaSimukonda near the fire.
"Mother," she said politely.
"Yes?"
"I think it might be time for you to continue your search for land."
MaSimukonda slowly turned toward her.
"Are you chasing me away?"
Nalubamba shook her head quickly.
"No, mother. I only meant—"
"You forget something," MaSimukonda interrupted sharply.
"What?"
"I am family."
Her voice was cold.
Nalubamba felt her heart sink.
She realized the situation had become more serious than she imagined.
