"That Bewear... is it really just an ordinary Pokémon..."
This wasn't just Gary's question, it was the thought shared by everyone present who witnessed Bewear utterly demolish Aerodactyl. This Bewear was simply terrifyingly strong. During the battle, she used Extreme Speed to move faster than the eye could see, constantly playing with Aerodactyl, and then relied on her sheer punching power to beat Aerodactyl like a misbehaving grandchild.
And right now, this incredibly powerful Bewear was holding the cake trophy Ash had made with honey, while pointing at the unconscious Aerodactyl.
"Bewear!"
"Boss, Momma Bewear is telling you to catch it."
With Meowth translating Momma Bewear's meaning, Ash nodded and threw a Luxury Ball. Bam!
Since Aerodactyl was already unconscious, the Luxury Ball captured it without any resistance.
"Hmm... it's a guy with a really nasty temper. Looks like I'll have to train it to obey later. Oh right, Gary, Brock, come here for a sec, I have something to tell you guys."
"Huh?"
Seeing Ash call them over, Gary and Brock exchanged a glance. Still, they walked away with Ash. Even though some people were very curious about what was going on... with Ash's Charizard, shiny Rapidash, Misty's Tentacruel and Starmie, Suzie's Tyranitar, and Lara's Scyther all watching, no one dared to push their luck.
In a quiet corner, Ash handed two Poké Balls each to Gary and Brock.
"What are these?"
"Don't say I never look out for you guys. This time we found a lot of Fossil Pokémon down in the cave. With the help of my Chansey, I caught all of them, except for the ones Misty and the girls got. I'm leaving these two Omanyte and Kabuto for you guys to take care of."
"Omanyte and Kabuto? Thanks, Ash."
Taking the Poké Balls from Ash, Gary knew how precious these two Pokémon were. Furthermore, judging by their behavior, these Fossil Pokémon were clearly apex predators. Compared to many common Pokémon, their starting point was much higher.
"But I have to warn you, these guys have terrible tempers. If you don't give them a good beating, they won't recognize you as their boss."
"I understand. I learned from my grandpa, I know how to handle them. Thanks a lot for this."
Gary could understand the Fossil Pokémon having bad tempers. After all, the world they lived in was a place where the strong preyed on the weak. Ash giving him two to train was already a huge bro move.
"No problem. By the way, contact Professor Oak later. We're going to rest at the nearest Continental Hotel in a bit... It'll be a good chance to have Professor Oak take a look at these Fossil Pokémon."
"Yeah, Grandpa will definitely be thrilled."
"Ash! I am truly grateful for your..."
Just as Ash and Gary were talking, Brock—that guy—suddenly lunged and hugged Ash's leg. After all, these two Pokémon really were incredibly rare.
"You idiot! Get away, you're being super gross right now!"
Even though Ash said that, Brock still clung to Ash's leg for dear life, refusing to let go.
"Lord Ash! Please allow me to express my deepest gratitude for your immense kindness!"
"Chansey!" (Don't touch Daddy Ash!)
With a gentle slap to the face from Chansey, Brock finally quieted down. Ash and Gary exchanged a helpless look and started contacting Professor Oak.
Meanwhile, behind Pallet Town, Professor Oak was observing Dragonair when Daisy walked over with a communicator. "Grandpa, it's a call from Ash and Gary."
"Oh, thanks. Hmm, Ash, Gary? You two calling me together is a first. What's going on?"
"Professor Oak, we found Fossil Pokémon here at Grampa Canyon. There are Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, Kabutops, and an Aerodactyl."
Pfft!
"What did you say?!"
Hearing Ash's words, Professor Oak did a spit-take. Ash was saying something absolutely mind-blowing with a completely nonchalant expression.
"Exactly what you heard, Grandpa. Ash caught all the Fossil Pokémon. He even gave me two. We're planning to go to the nearest Continental Hotel to rest. Grandpa, if you want to see them, come on over."
Hearing Gary and Ash say this, Professor Oak was stunned for a moment, then immediately roared:
"Wait right there! I'm heading to the Continental Hotel closest to Grampa Canyon right now! Wait for me! Bill! Get over here right now! Your beloved Kabuto are here! If you're late, I'm leaving you behind!"
Whoosh!
With the sound of rushing wind, Bill instantly appeared in front of Professor Oak, looking at him excitedly and asking, "I heard the name Kabuto! Professor Oak, where are we going? How do we get there? Leave it to me! I will use my years of research to observe it!"
Looking at the somewhat incoherent Bill, Professor Oak said speechlessly, "Alright, they're all with Ash. Let's get ready and head to the Continental Hotel..."
Hearing Professor Oak say this, Bill immediately lunged at him and shouted, "No problem! Professor Oak, I love you!"
"Get lost! I don't swing that way!"
Watching researcher Bill, who was incomparably thrilled about the Kabuto, Daisy said speechlessly, "I think I finally understand why Bill is still single to this day..."
On the other side, after Ash handed the Poké Balls to Brock and Gary, he headed back, picking up a Pokémon Egg along the way.
"All done?"
Seeing Ash return, Lara recalled Scyther. Ash nodded and said, "Yeah, finished our business. We should head to the Continental Hotel and rest. We're all covered in dirt."
Hearing Ash say this, Misty, Suzie, and Lara finally noticed that they were indeed very dirty, and couldn't help but nod. "Yeah, we definitely need a good wash."
"Let's go. Today sure was an amazing adventure."
"We need to give them a health check, too. Let's go."
As for the people at Grampa Canyon, after seeing Aerodactyl, they completely abandoned the idea of digging for fossils. Even if Fossil Pokémon existed, you needed to be alive to enjoy them! Didn't they see how ferocious that Aerodactyl was? It was obviously a carnivore!
Ultimately, after an assessment by the Pokémon League, Grampa Canyon became a designated protected area, and no one was allowed to randomly disturb it anymore. Of course, that was all in the future. Right now, Ash and Pikachu were busy strapping the Team Rocket trio to a giant firecracker.
"Hey! Didn't you say you wouldn't beat us up?!"
Controlled by Gardevoir's Psychic, Jessie could only voice her protest. However, Ash just kept tying them up while saying, "That's right! I didn't beat you up, I'm just sending you on your way. You saw how safe this firecracker was last time. So there's no need to worry! Charizard, light it up!"
"Char!"
Having reached his favorite part, Charizard gave a wicked grin and used the flame on his tail to light the fuse.
"Hey, hey, hey! Don't do this, meow! Huff, puff!"
Seeing the fuse rapidly shortening, Meowth started blowing on it frantically, trying to stop it. However, it was completely useless. Whoosh!
As the firecracker successfully launched into the sky, Ash and the gang heard that all-too-familiar line once again:
"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
