The opening of the Pokémon Race, accompanied by Squirtle's eye-popping Skull Bash, pushed the atmosphere to its absolute peak. The trainers, too, all started to exert their full strength. Those who had originally planned to accelerate slowly saw this dark horse of a Squirtle and dropped all intentions of holding back. They went all out, because it would truly be embarrassing if they let Squirtle win.
And just as everyone powered up, Team Rocket began their sniping plan. James once again pulled out his slingshot and aimed it at Ash's Ponyta. "Take this, twerp! For our faces!"
Swish!
James's stone rapidly closed in on Ponyta, but just like last time, Ponyta dodged it. The Tauros behind them, however, was out of luck, since this time Ash wasn't there to catch the stone. Struck by the rock, the startled Tauros began to run wildly. Although its trainer tried to calm it down in time, Tauros's horn still ended up stabbing right into a Nidorina's butt, and then:
"Nido!" *2
As everyone knows, the Nidoran♀ and Nidorina evolutionary line are female, while the Nidoran♂ line is male. Now that Nidorina had been stabbed in the butt by Tauros, Nidorino was definitely going to stand up for her, so—
"Oh no! Tauros, run!!!"
"Moo!!!"
Seeing the glares of Nidorina and Nidorino, Tauros used every ounce of its strength to sprint for its life.
"There it is! Tauros's Thrash! My goodness, the Nidorina and Nidorino behind it are chasing so closely!!!"
Watching Tauros fleeing for its life, desperately avoiding Nidorino's horn and Nidorina's bites, Lara was a bit speechless. "I guess you really can unlock your hidden potential when your life is in danger."
Suzie sighed helplessly, "It can't be helped. After all, Nidorino and Nidorina are hot on its tail."
Tomo looked at the humiliated expression on Nidorina's face and the pure rage on Nidorino's face, realizing these two were likely a couple. "This is truly a fight to the death now."
Misty held her Horsea and smiled awkwardly, not knowing what to say. After all, for Nidorino, it was like his partner was humiliated, and for Nidorina, she was essentially violated.
Seeing the chaos they caused, Team Rocket was a bit speechless. Jessie directly punched James in the head. "You missed again! Can't you aim better?!"
"But Ponyta is too fast..."
"Forget it, aim for the slope ahead! We've got a trap dug there, and Dario knows the location. Just wait for the good show!"
Jessie then looked at Squirtle and Pikachu, who were still in the lead, and asked, "What about Squirtle then?"
"Idiot, there's a slope before the downhill. Skull Bash won't be good for anything there!"
However, an even more absurd maneuver occurred. Squirtle actually used the recoil of Hydro Pump to propel himself up the hill. While this method was clever, it still wasn't as fast as Skull Bash, so Squirtle and Pikachu were soon caught up to.
"Excellent! Watch me pass you!" Dario originally wanted to show off, but there was something even faster... an Electrode!
Watching the Electrode trainer bouncing around like a circus acrobat, Ash couldn't help but praise him. However, before Ash could even voice his compliment, Electrode triggered the trap Team Rocket had dug earlier.
"Phew... looks like digging that trap wasn't a waste, meow..." Meowth felt a twinge of pity seeing Electrode fall into the pit, but thinking about how Electrode would likely Self-Destruct, he smirked again. "Hehe, let's see what you do this time, twerp!"
Just as Meowth predicted, the agitated Electrode was already preparing to Self-Destruct. Seeing this, the trainers on the scene simultaneously barked out different commands.
"Rhyhorn, Harden!"
"Onix, go around!"
"Tauros, charge straight through!"
"Nidorino, follow it!"
"Nidorina, you too!"
"What?!" *4
Dario and Team Rocket were genuinely shocked this time, because these trainers all had their own ways around it. Ash went even further, telling Ponyta: "It's just a little explosion. Ponyta, jump over it!"
"Neigh!!!"
As Ponyta leaped into the air, its flame color miraculously changed. What was originally a light red suddenly transformed into a deep blue.
"What?!" *N
Seeing Ponyta's flames, Ash suddenly understood. Why Ponyta's eyes had always looked so light. It turned out... it turned out his Ponyta was a one-in-a-million Shiny Pokémon! "Hahahaha! I see! No wonder I could never get your flame color to look bright. It turns out your true flame is blue! It looks awesome!"
"Neigh!!!" Seeing the blue flames on its body, Ponyta also understood. That exciting leap just now had awakened its true flames. Its flames were a deep blue. It was the extremely rare Shiny Pokémon its master Ash had spoken of!
"My goodness!!! Ash's Ponyta is actually a Shiny Pokémon! No wonder the flame color was so light despite Ash raising it so well! The true color of Ash's Ponyta's flames is blue! That deep blue is proof of Ash's excellent rearing!"
"Ohhhhhhhh!!!" *N
The appearance of the alternate-colored Ponyta instantly made the entire audience boil over. After all, a blue-flamed Ponyta was simply too beautiful. Following behind Ash, Dario said displeasedly, "Tch, so what if it's a Shiny Pokémon? What's the big deal?"
"You actually have the energy to complain?"
"What do you mean?"
"Even my Squirtle is faster than you! Ponyta, accelerate!"
"What!"
Dario didn't understand what Ash meant at first, but upon seeing Squirtle going downhill by withdrawing into his shell and using it like a skateboard, he understood why Ash said that. "Impossible! How is it so stable?! What about the rocks on the ground?!"
"Pika!" (Idiot!)
Dario would never have guessed that Squirtle had activated his defensive abilities upon withdrawing into his shell. Outside his shell, there was a layer of flowing water acting as a shield.
