"A beach beauty contest? The marketing plan is solid, but since everyone is here to relax, are we sure it'll actually attract participants?"
Ash looked at the poster Elesa handed him, feeling a bit skeptical. In his mind, most people just wanted to lounge in the sun. However, he had drastically underestimated the competitive spirit of women—and the allure of the grand prize: a three-day all-inclusive luxury cruise on the Thousand Sunny.
"Is that so? You might want to take a look at the registration booth," Elesa teased, pointing toward the edge of the beach.
Ash looked over and nearly choked. The line was massive and growing by the minute.
"Want to go take a look?"
"Let's ask the others," Ash suggested. He immediately regretted it, as Brock proceeded to latch onto Ash's leg with a look of terrifying, tearful desperation.
"Lord Ash! Please! Let's go! I'm begging you!"
"Let go, Brock! You're being creepy!"
"I am a man of the people! Let us go witness the beauty of the world, Lord Ash!"
Ultimately, the group went—but not as participants. Given that having Elesa or Cynthia enter would be like bringing a nuke to a knife fight, the organizers (Ash's employees) requested they serve as Special Guest Judges.
"Welcome everyone to the Porta Vista Swimsuit & Pokémon Extravaganza, hosted by the Continental Hotel! A huge thank you to our Boss for his generous support! The winner will receive a three-day top-tier experience on the Thousand Sunny!"
The host was interrupted by an assistant whispering in his ear. He nodded, his eyes widening.
"Ladies and Gentlemen! We have an incredible surprise! Please welcome the Grand Boss of the Continental Hotel and the mastermind behind this event—ASH!"
A spotlight slammed onto the judges' table. Ash, in his tailored suit, leaned back and adjusted his tie. "It's good to participate in these community events occasionally. Hello everyone, I'm Ash Ketchum. Let's have a clean competition."
"Do you need a girlfriend?!""What's your number?!""Are you looking for an assistant?!"
The reaction from the female crowd was instantaneous and intense. Between his Sebastian looks and the fact that he was a self-made multi-millionaire... let's just say the hunger in the eyes of the onlookers made Ash pull his hat lower.
"Terrifying..." Ash muttered.
From the stands, Professor Oak chuckled. "Rich, handsome, and successful. Ash is quite the catch. Daisy, you better keep a close eye on him~"
Daisy blushed. "I'm not worried. Ash doesn't care for superficial types."
"And now, our second Special Guest Judge! The Gym Leader of Nimbasa City and a world-class supermodel—Elesa! Also known as... our Boss's fiancée!"
Elesa blinked, looking at Ash. He whispered, "No point in hiding it."
"Ash... thank you," She murmured, before standing up and waving to the crowd with a dazzling smile. She reached over and placed her hand over Ash's.
Half the men in the audience felt their hearts shatter. Their idol was taken.
"Hello everyone, I'm Elesa. As the intro said, I am Ash's fiancée."
"NOOOO—!" A collective wail of despair rose from the beach.
"But wait! There's more!" The host shouted, seemingly enjoying the chaos. "Our final judge is a heavyweight of the Pokémon world—the Sinnoh Region Champion, Cynthia!"
Cynthia stood up, her regal aura instantly quieting the crowd. "I am Cynthia. And... I am also Ash's fiancée."
She smiled and took Ash's other hand. The level of jealousy radiating from the male spectators was now powerful enough to probably summon a Ghost-type Pokémon.
Ash, sensing the danger, casually rolled up his sleeves, revealing the lean, powerful muscles he'd built through years of training. The death glares from the crowd immediately softened into nervous coughing.
"Ahem! Boss, please stop scaring the guests," The host laughed. "Let the contest begin!"
The contest was a spectacular display of beauty and Pokémon coordination. However, mid-way through, two ladies appeared that made Ash's eye twitch.
"Next up, the duo calling themselves the Rocket Ladies!"
Ash saw Jessie and a very convincingly cross-dressed James. He turned to Meowth. "Meowth, where's my brick?"
"Searching for it now, Boss!"
"Ash, calm down," Elesa whispered, holding his arm. "They're just participating. Let it be."
"Fine. But seeing a man in that dress is doing psychic damage to me..."
Just as Ash was trying to ignore Team Rocket, a loud, obnoxious voice rang out. Gary arrived, flanked by his usual six cheerleaders.
"Ash! I heard your company was running this show, so I came to show off! Check it out! Aren't my girlfriends the most beautiful?"
The cheerleaders broke into their routine: "Gary, Gary, he's our man! Gary, Gary, the best in the land!"
"Thanks, ladies! So, Ashy-boy, jealous?"
Ash looked at Gary—who clearly hadn't noticed who was sitting next to Ash yet—and sighed. He pulled Elesa and Cynthia closer.
"Gary, if your eyes are broken, go see a doctor. Meet my fiancées: Elesa and Cynthia. Oh, and by the way... Daisy is right over there."
The color drained from Gary's face. "Big Sis is here?! Oh, crap!"
"You think you can run?!" Daisy appeared behind him, hefting a brick she'd borrowed from Meowth. "I think it's time for a little family education!"
As Daisy chased a screaming Gary across the sand, Elesa laughed. "You're mean, Ash."
While the comedy played out, Cynthia's eyes narrowed. "Ash... those Rocket people. They disappeared from the stage."
Ash scanned the area. "You're right. Something's wrong."
In a dark alleyway behind the luxury shops, Nastina was scolding the Rocket trio.
"Listen up! I know you're Team Rocket. I've repaired your Gyarados submarine. Now, go! Go and cause as much chaos as possible for the Continental Hotel! Their success is ruining my business, and I want them gone! If you don't do it, I'll report your identities to the police!"
"Yes, ma'am!" The trio squeaked, saluting in terror.
They scrambled into the submarine, intent on sabotage. But they failed to realize one thing: the Continental Hotel's security wasn't just for show.
