Chapter 44 - No Mercy Left

Luciano didn't stop.

Not when Adriano hit the wall.

Not when the first punch landed.

Not even when blood followed.

"You touched her," Luciano repeated.

Each word came with another hit.

Controlled.

Precise.

But brutal.

Adriano barely had time to react—

Barely had time to defend himself—

Before Luciano slammed him down again.

Sophia stood frozen for a second.

"Luciano—"

But he didn't hear her.

Didn't stop.

Because this—

This wasn't anger.

This was something deeper.

"You don't come into my house," Luciano growled,

"You don't go near her—"

Another strike.

"—and you don't walk away from it."

Adriano coughed, trying to push himself up.

"You think this ends me?" he spat.

Luciano grabbed him by the collar again—

Pulling him close.

"I don't need to end you," he said quietly.

"I'll take everything you have."

And he meant it.

Every word.

"Get him out," Luciano ordered coldly.

His men moved instantly.

Dragging Adriano away.

But Adriano didn't look afraid.

Not defeated.

"I'll be back," he said.

That promise lingered.

Even after he was gone.

Days passed.

Too quietly.

Too carefully.

Luciano tightened security.

More guards.

More control.

But still—

Something felt off.

And then—

It happened again.

Sophia had just stepped out of the shower, wrapping herself in a robe, when she felt it.

That shift.

That presence.

Her heart dropped.

"No…"

She turned—

And there he was.

Adriano.

Again.

"You really don't learn," she said, backing away instantly.

He didn't answer.

Didn't smile this time.

He just moved closer.

"You don't get to keep running from this," he said.

Her pulse raced.

"I'm not running."

"Then stop fighting it."

"No."

That answer came fast.

Sharp.

Adriano reached for her—

But this time—

Sophia reacted immediately.

She shoved him hard.

"Don't touch me!"

But he grabbed her arm again—

Trying to pull her closer.

Her heart slammed against her chest—

Fear rising—

But she didn't freeze.

She fought.

Pushed.

Struggled.

"You don't get to do this!" she snapped.

The tension in the room snapped—

Footsteps thundered down the hallway.

And then—

The door burst open.

Luciano.

And this time—

There was no control left.

He didn't speak.

Didn't warn.

Didn't hesitate.

He lunged.

Adriano didn't even have time to react before Luciano slammed into him—

Dragging him off Sophia and throwing him across the room.

"You don't learn," Luciano said.

But his voice—

It wasn't calm.

It was rage.

Pure.

The beating that followed—

It wasn't controlled.

It wasn't precise.

It was merciless.

Sophia stood there, shaken, breath uneven—

Watching as Luciano unleashed everything.

"Stay away from her!" Luciano roared.

Another hit.

"You don't come back here—"

Another.

"You don't breathe near her—"

Adriano tried to fight back—

But it didn't matter.

He was already losing.

Finally—

Luciano stopped.

Not because he wanted to.

But because he chose to.

He stood over Adriano.

Breathing hard.

Eyes dark.

"You're done," he said.

Adriano laughed weakly.

"You think money matters?"

Luciano's expression went cold.

"It does when you have none left."

A pause.

"I just ended your company."

Silence.

And for the first time—

Adriano looked shaken.

"Get him out," Luciano ordered.

Again—

His men dragged him away.

And this time—

Adriano didn't speak.

The room fell silent.

Luciano turned.

And saw her.

Sophia.

Shaken.

Still.

Everything in him changed.

Instantly.

He crossed the room slowly.

Not rushing.

Not forcing.

"Sophia…"

Her breath trembled slightly.

"I'm okay."

But her voice—

It wasn't steady.

Luciano didn't argue.

Didn't question.

He just reached for her—

Then stopped.

Remembering.

Her boundaries.

A pause.

"Come with me," he said instead.

She hesitated—

Then nodded.

The bathroom filled with steam as warm water ran.

Luciano stayed close—

But didn't touch her.

Not until she stepped forward first.

That was all the permission he needed.

He helped her gently—

Carefully—

Washing away the tension of what had just happened.

"Adriano is filthy," he said quietly.

Sophia let out a small breath.

"Yeah…"

Not just physically.

Everything about him.

When she finished—

She stepped back.

Reaching for her toothbrush.

Luciano watched her.

Still.

Focused.

Not controlling.

Not demanding.

Just there.

When she was done—

She turned to him.

And this time—

There was no hesitation.

She stepped closer.

Closing the space.

Luciano didn't move.

Didn't assume.

He waited.

Sophia placed her hand lightly against his chest.

"I'm okay," she said softly.

A pause.

Then—

She leaned in.

And kissed him.

Not desperate.

Not forced.

Grounded.

Luciano responded carefully—

Not taking control.

Not overpowering.

Just matching her.

When they pulled apart—

His forehead rested lightly against hers.

"I'm here," he said.

And this time—

It didn't feel like possession.

It felt like something stronger.

Something chosen.

Silence returned to the mansion.

But it wasn't peace.

It was tension waiting to snap.

Sophia felt it everywhere.

In the halls.

In the shadows.

In the way the guards moved—

More alert.

More aggressive.

And in Luciano.

He hadn't relaxed.

Not for a second.

"He's not done," Sophia said quietly.

Luciano didn't look at her.

"No."

Days passed.

Nothing happened.

No attacks.

No messages.

Nothing.

And that—

That was worse.

Because men like Adriano didn't disappear.

They waited.

"He's planning something," Sophia whispered one night.

Luciano finally looked at her.

"Yes."

A pause.

"And this time…"

His voice dropped.

"He won't come alone."

Her chest tightened.

And then—

It happened.

The gates exploded.

The sound tore through the night—

Shattering the silence.

Sophia gasped, jumping to her feet.

"What was that?!"

Luciano was already moving.

"Stay inside."

"No—"

"Stay."

The command hit harder this time.

But before she could argue—

Gunfire echoed.

Close.

Too close.

Sophia's heart slammed against her chest.

This wasn't a warning.

This was war.

Luciano grabbed his gun—

Turning to his men.

"Lock everything down."

But it was too late.

Because the enemy—

Was already inside.

A figure stepped through the broken entrance.

Slow.

Calm.

Covered in darkness—

But unmistakable.

Adriano.

But he wasn't the same.

Not polished.

Not controlled.

He looked… unhinged.

"You took everything from me," Adriano said.

His voice low.

Rough.

Luciano stepped forward.

"You came back to lose the rest."

Adriano laughed.

A hollow sound.

"I don't have anything left to lose."

That—

That was the problem.

Sophia felt it instantly.

This wasn't a man playing a game anymore.

This was a man ready to burn everything down.

"You should've killed me," Adriano said.

Luciano's grip tightened on his weapon.

"I don't make the same mistake twice."

Adriano's gaze shifted.

Landing on Sophia.

And everything in the room changed.

Sophia's breath caught.

Because this time—

There was no calculation in his eyes.

Just obsession.

"You still chose him," Adriano said softly.

Her heart raced.

"Yes."

No hesitation.

No doubt.

Adriano smiled.

But it wasn't right.

"Then you go down with him."

Gunfire erupted.

Chaos exploded instantly.

Luciano moved fast—

Pulling Sophia behind him.

Shielding her.

"Stay behind me!" he snapped.

But Adriano wasn't aiming at Luciano.

He was aiming at everything.

Windows shattered.

Walls splintered.

Guards fell.

This wasn't an attack.

It was destruction.

"You don't get to keep her!" Adriano shouted.

Luciano fired back—

Precise.

Deadly.

One by one—

Adriano's men dropped.

But Adriano kept moving.

Closer.

Closer.

Until it was just him.

Standing in the middle of the wreckage.

"You think this ends tonight?" Adriano said.

Luciano didn't hesitate.

"It does."

A shot rang out.

Adriano staggered.

But didn't fall.

Blood spread across his side.

And still—

He smiled.

"You should've finished me," he said.

Luciano stepped forward.

This time—

There was no holding back.

"You're right."

Sophia's heart pounded.

Because this—

This was it.

The end.

Adriano lunged.

One last attempt.

One last move.

But Luciano was faster.

The second shot echoed louder.

Final.

Adriano froze.

Then—

Collapsed.

Silence fell.

Heavy.

Absolute.

Sophia stood there—

Frozen.

Trying to process everything.

Luciano turned to her immediately.

Crossing the distance in seconds.

"Are you hurt?"

She shook her head quickly.

"No… I'm okay…"

But her voice trembled.

Luciano's hand hovered near her—

Then gently rested on her shoulder.

Careful.

Controlled.

"It's over," he said.

This time—

It really was.

Sophia looked past him—

At Adriano's still body.

And for the first time—

She believed it.
