Miranda looked at Raven, her expression calm but pointed. "Now on to serious matters, besides talking about games."
Raven took another bite of her donut, licking a bit of frosting from her thumb. "Mmm, this is good. The frosting's great. But I still think you like messing around wat to much."
Miranda bit into her own and replied nonchalantly, "Whatever. There's nothing wrong with a golem enjoying some of the finer things in life."
Then her tone shifted. "As you're aware, the Cross lineage deals with threats on a planetary level, not on a regional level like young Harry Potter."
She continued as her eyes scanned the vaulted chamber. "I'm sure you've familiarized yourself with the events surrounding him and his parents with the intelligence I provided you. Those goblins really keep their ears to the ground."
Miranda leaned forward slightly. "This Lord Voldemort is an interesting fellow. He truly believes he can conquer the wizarding world of London." Her voice lowered in amusement. "He seems to be in denial that there are dozens of wizarding communities across the planet, many with wizards of comparable or greater strength to him."
She gave a small shake of her head. "It's hilarious how these regional Dark Lords think they can rule everything when they're just frogs at the bottom of a well."
Raven nodded thoughtfully. "That's true. I don't know if I've told you about my father, Trigon."
Miranda arched an eyebrow as Raven continued. "He's an interdimensional entity that invades entire planes of existence, destroys everything, enslaves all beings there, and consumes them to fuel his power."
Miranda blinked. "Your father is an interdimensional plane-eating entity?"
"You really do have next-level parents compared to Harry."
Raven crossed her arms. "Don't get me started on him. He created me to invade my previous world. That option's out the window now."
"We'll see," Miranda said, her tone unreadable. "Someday you may be able to use the power of the Cross lineage to fight him."
Then she shifted gears. "Now, the actual threats you'll be facing… have you ever heard of Dementors?"
Raven shook her head. "I haven't encountered them yet."
"Dementors were created centuries ago by a powerful Dark wizard," Miranda explained. "They periodically multiply, escape control, and plague wizarding communities worldwide."
She continued, voice sharp. "The wizarding world uses the Patronus Charm to repel them. But members of the Cross lineage don't repel them."
"We destroy them."
Raven's eyes narrowed slightly as Miranda went on. "The wizarding world believes Dementors cannot be destroyed. That's incorrect. They simply lack the magic required."
"They guard Azkaban Prison in London, along with similar prisons around the world. Different regions use different creatures, but the principle is the same."
"One of the Cross lineage's duties is to periodically cull these abominations."
Raven was silent, absorbing the shift in tone.
Miranda stepped closer. "Your first task—before Hogwarts—is to go to Azkaban. And cull a large number of Dementors."
She snapped her fingers.
A silver ring with a blood-red stone materialized in the air, then lowered onto Raven's left middle finger.
"This is the Ring of the Cross," Miranda said. "It allows you to cast magic aligned with this world's laws without a wand. It interprets your intent directly."
She added, "Think of the spell. Or say the name if you're feeling playful to channel your magic."
Raven turned her hand slowly, letting the ring catch the light. "I don't normally need a focus to cast magic."
Miranda's voice was gentle but firm. "These entities aren't typical magical beings. When in a new world, you must learn to wield its magic. Your magic alone isn't enough for planetary-level threats."
She turned slightly, pacing. "When you go to Hogwarts, they'll try to give you a wand. Don't accept it."
"Wands are crutches. The over-reliance on them is why the quality of wizards have degraded."
Her tone tightened. "That wandmaker—Garrick Ollivander—cares more about profit than progress."
Raven nodded. "Understood. I'll go to Azkaban in the next few days."
She looked again at the ring. "I'll begin culling Dementors."
