Chapter 81 - Togepi Is Born, and Misty’s Confession!

"What do you think will hatch from this Pokémon Egg?"

Misty carried the incubator she had bought, checking the time as they traveled.

By her calculation, the egg should hatch soon.

She was extremely excited about what Pokémon might emerge.

Hopefully a cute Water-type Pokémon…

Well, even if it wasn't Water-type, something as adorable as Jigglypuff would be fine.

Misty still couldn't stop thinking about Ash's cute Jigglypuff. Unfortunately, the little Pokémon clearly had its heart set on Ash—whenever it came out of its Poké Ball, it immediately clung to him.

"It'll definitely hatch into a cute Pokémon," Ash replied.

After all, the egg's appearance already made it obvious—it was Togepi.

"Not necessarily," Brock said seriously.

"I think it'll hatch into a Golem."

Misty shot him a sharp glare.

A rough Pokémon like Golem wasn't nearly as cute as even Psyduck.

As they trained along the way toward Cinnabar Island, Misty frequently checked the egg's condition.

Ash noticed that Team Rocket, who in the original storyline had tried to steal the egg, hadn't appeared at all.

That was probably for the best.

If Misty hatched the egg herself, she would form a deeper bond with the Pokémon.

And if those three troublemakers showed up, who knew what kind of chaos they might cause.

Besides, the expensive incubator she bought significantly shortened the hatching time.

It was pricey—but it would probably be useful again in the future.

Around noon, Ash and his friends set up a temporary campsite.

They planned to wait there for the egg to hatch.

Judging by how frequently the egg was shaking, it would probably happen today.

Ash released all his Pokémon to stand guard. He didn't want even the slightest accident to occur.

For once, Charizard and Aerodactyl weren't glaring at each other.

Instead, they quietly watched the egg with surprisingly gentle expressions. Even they seemed to sense that a new life was about to be born.

Meanwhile, Jigglypuff held the microphone Ash had given it, clearly planning to sing a celebratory song.

Ash immediately stopped it.

If everyone fell asleep, what if the newly hatched Togepi wandered off?

Ash simply hugged Jigglypuff tightly to stop it from singing as they waited for the moment of birth.

Pikachu glanced at the Jigglypuff sitting comfortably in Ash's arms and felt slightly jealous.

Brock also stared at the egg expectantly. The pattern on the shell was unfamiliar to him, making it difficult to guess the Pokémon inside.

"It's moving! It's moving!" Misty cried excitedly.

All the surrounding Pokémon held their breath as the eggshell slowly began to crack.

Inside, a tiny Pokémon struggled energetically, trying to break free.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

Togepi's little head and arms poked out of the shell.

Its lower body remained inside the broken half of the egg.

"Togepi?!" Misty exclaimed.

She gently lifted the newborn Pokémon from the incubator.

The adorable little Togepi instantly captured everyone's hearts.

All the Pokémon almost let out excited cries at the same time—but quickly covered their mouths, afraid of startling the new member.

"So cute!" Misty said as she cuddled Togepi.

Togepi seemed delighted as well.

"It really is an adorable Pokémon," Brock admitted.

Though he sighed slightly—he had secretly hoped for a Golem.

"Jiake!"

Togepi chirped happily.

Ash suddenly wondered something strange.

Could Togepi actually remove the eggshell covering its lower body?

Pokémon: Togepi

Level: 1

Type: Fairy

After greeting the newborn Togepi, Ash began introducing all the Pokémon present.

Misty, of course, was its mother.

As for its father…

Misty felt too embarrassed to say anything.

After all, Ash hadn't officially confessed his feelings yet.

So that matter was temporarily left unresolved.

Pikachu, Charizard, and the others were introduced as big brothers.

As for the slightly clueless Psyduck… he was reluctantly counted as a big brother too.

Misty's heart had already been completely captured by Togepi.

She simply couldn't put the little Pokémon down.

"I'll cook a delicious lunch for Togepi to try," Brock said, tying on his apron.

He began showing off his cooking skills—while conveniently giving the two of them some space.

Togepi was extremely lively after hatching, curious about everything in the world.

Pikachu took it around to play.

Watching the tiny Pokémon being gently cared for by everyone, Misty looked at the scene with tender eyes.

She secretly glanced at Ash, her cheeks flushing slightly as she smiled.

Ash had been focused on Pikachu and the others playing with Togepi.

But suddenly—

A system notification window popped up in front of him, startling him.

What shocked him wasn't the window itself.

It was what it said.

[Beauty: Misty — Affection Level: 79]

(More than friendship, less than lovers)

PS:80 or above = confirmed lovers

Ash froze.

As someone who had been single his entire life, this situation was completely unfamiliar.

Just one point away from becoming lovers…

Did that mean he needed to confess first to push it past 80?

Ash turned his head slightly—

—and accidentally met Misty's gaze.

For a brief moment, their eyes locked.

Then they both quickly looked away.

Misty's cheeks turned red.

Her hands fidgeted nervously—sometimes clutching her clothes, sometimes playing with a strand of hair.

Even though Ash had been single for a long time, he didn't hesitate now.

If he confessed here, they wouldn't even need to set up an extra tent tonight.

Brock was busy cooking.

The tent blocked the view.

And all the Pokémon were focused on Togepi.

No one was paying attention to them.

Ash quietly walked closer to Misty, his heart pounding.

Although Misty kept her head lowered, she clearly sensed him approaching.

Her heartbeat quickened.

Even the tips of her ears turned red.

It felt like thirty Tauros were stampeding inside her chest.

"Ash… how do you feel about me?" Misty suddenly asked.

Before Ash could speak, her thoughts spiraled wildly.

Somewhere along their journey, she had developed feelings for him.

She didn't dare look directly at him, only sneaking glances from the corner of her eyes.

He probably likes me too… right?

What a blockhead…

Ash was incredibly attentive when it came to Pokémon—but hopelessly oblivious about romance.

When he didn't respond immediately, Misty felt even more nervous.

If he says he doesn't like me…

There's a lake right over there. I'll just throw him in.

"What do I feel?" Ash repeated.

"All I know is… you were the first person I met when I started my journey."

"Even though we argue and tease each other a lot…"

"Have you ever heard the saying: fighting means affection, scolding means love?"

"I don't even know when it started…"

"But I fell for you."

"I like you, Misty."

Ash scratched his head awkwardly.

After all, this was the first time he had ever confessed to a girl.

Misty's face turned bright red.

"Ash… I like you too."

"Be my boyfriend."

She turned her head slightly away, though she couldn't help sneaking a glance at him.

"Um…"

Misty suddenly turned back.

He's hesitating?!

"Okay," Ash said quickly, nodding.

"My girlfriend."

Satisfied with the answer, Misty darted away like a startled rabbit.

Her bright red cheeks carried a radiant, joyful smile.
