Chapter 49 - 49, Red Wolf, Richest Man! (Reset)

Is My Main God Miyazaki Hidetaka?

Lynn coldly spat out those two words, and the Bloodhound's Fang in his hand thrust out without mercy, ending the beast's agony.

[Runes Acquired: 200]

In the blink of an eye, two of the three were gone.

The last dog seemed to finally realize the terror of the prey before it. It skidded to a halt, letting out an uneasy whimper from its throat, and even began to slowly back away.

"Thinking of running now?" Lynn flicked the blue sparks of light from his blade, stepping toward it with a slow, measured pace. "Too late."

A few seconds later, following a brief, sharp yelp, the battle was over.

[Runes Acquired: 200]

Lynn stood amidst the three corpses as they dissolved into motes of light, letting out a soft breath. A thin layer of sweat had formed on his forehead. This battle had looked effortless and fluid, but in reality, it was fraught with peril. If he had made a single misjudgment or if his Bloodhound's Step had been a tenth of a second slower, a single bite from those three dogs would have spelled his end.

"Finally... handled."

He was about to step forward and push open the final wooden door when a unique glint caught the corner of his eye. At the spot where the last dog had vanished, an item radiating a soft golden glow lay quietly on the stone floor.

It wasn't a Magic Stone, nor was it a common drop material.

Lynn paused, walked over, and leaned down to pick it up. It was a curved, crescent-shaped golden rune, possessing a warm, smooth texture in his hand. The moment his fingers brushed against it, a familiar system prompt popped up.

[Obtained: Rune Arc ×1]

Lynn stared at the object in his hand, momentarily stunned. A trace of unbelievable nostalgia flickered in his eyes.

"A Rune Arc... so it's this thing..."

He rubbed the warm golden crescent, a feeling familiar to his very bones welling up in his heart. In the Lands Between, this was the key to activating the power of Great Runes—the medium through which mortals touched the mighty power of the gods. Crushing it would allow a Tarnished to briefly manifest the glory of a demigod.

In simpler terms, it activated Great Rune effects and instantly fully restored Health.

"I wonder... what effect it will have here?" Lynn wondered aloud.

He could feel a pure and surging power within the arc, far more advanced than a simple Magic Stone. However, he didn't use it immediately, instead carefully stowing it away. This item was too precious; it might very well save his life at a critical moment.

Suppressing his excitement, he turned his gaze back to the heavy oak door at the end of the corridor. Since the "Three-Dog Formation" and a "Rune Arc" had already appeared, he wouldn't be surprised by whatever monsters lurked behind that door.

"I've come this far. Can't exactly leave without opening the treasure chest," he chuckled self-mockingly. He loosened his shoulders, gripped the Bloodhound's Fang tightly, and stepped forward.

He reached out and pushed the door.

Creeeeeak—

Accompanied by a grating sound that set his teeth on edge, the door swung open. The sight behind it made Lynn freeze for a moment.

This wasn't a treasury, nor was it a gloomy dungeon. It was a magnificent, almost surreal circular hall. The structure resembled a tiered lecture hall or debate parlor, with rows of seats spiraling upward in a ring, large enough to hold hundreds.

Beneath his feet was a black marble floor, polished to a mirror-like shine, and above him was a deep, starlit sky. In the center of the hall stood a massive black round table.

And atop that table sat a giant wolf.

It was as large as a bull, covered entirely in blood-red fur that seemed to burn like fire. Under the reflection of the pale blue starlight, that red fur shimmered with an eerie luster. In its mouth, it clutched a sword that gleamed with Glintstone light... a magic sword?

The sound of the door opening alerted it.

The giant wolf slowly raised its head and turned. Those amber beastial eyes held none of the cloudiness of a common animal; instead, they were filled with intelligence and a cold killing intent. It locked onto Lynn at the entrance instantly.

"The Red Wolf of Radagon..."

Lynn's pupils shrank to the size of pinheads as the name slipped from his lips. Any lingering hope of an easy "treasure chest" was instantly crushed.

"Awoooo—!"

Upon seeing him, the Red Wolf atop the round table let out a low roar. The Glintstone sword in its mouth instantly dissolved into motes of blue light. It tensed its limbs, and its massive body lunged from the table like a cannonball, landing silently on the marble floor.

The battle was imminent.

Lynn took a deep breath, his focus becoming absolute. He didn't rush in; instead, he held a posture ready to roll at a moment's notice, facing off against the Red Wolf while his brain worked at high speed. He knew the Red Wolf's characteristics all too well. While it wasn't considered top-tier in the Lands Between, things were different here.

Sure enough, the Red Wolf moved. It didn't pounce directly. Instead, it lowered its body and began to sprint rapidly around the massive round table. That red afterimage was incredibly fast, tracing a gorgeous yet lethal arc through the hall.

Lynn's eyes tracked the red blur closely, not daring to relax for even a second. Just as the Red Wolf circled to his flank, its movement halted without warning, followed by a sharp turn as it lunged straight for him!

Here it comes!

Lynn's heart jumped. He pushed off the ground in a textbook side-roll.

Whoosh!

The Red Wolf's sharp claws grazed the tip of his nose, the rushing wind stinging his cheek. Having missed its mark, the Red Wolf's movements remained fluid; upon landing, it executed a tail-swipe, attempting to catch Lynn at his recovery point.

"Tsk!"

Lynn cursed inwardly and rolled again, narrowly avoiding the swipe. After two consecutive dodges, he created some distance and immediately pulled a Kukri from his storage space, hurlting it at the Red Wolf without a second thought. This was an old habit: using throwing knives to bait the AI into a specific move or to interrupt a spell.

However, something unexpected happened.

Facing the flying blade, the Red Wolf simply tilted its head slightly, letting the Kukri whistle past its fur to thud into a distant seat. It didn't pause for a second—it didn't even look at the knife. Its amber eyes remained fixed on Lynn.

"Damn, did it get smarter?"

Lynn's heart skipped a beat. The Red Wolf from the Lands Between was never this intelligent!

Before he could process this, the Red Wolf opened its mouth.

Vroom—

Three fist-sized blue Glintstone Pebbles formed a triangle and whistled toward him. Lynn didn't dare underestimate them, immediately activating Bloodhound's Step. His body turned into a phantom, bypassing the magical assault.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The Pebbles exploded where he had just stood, kicking up three rings of blue light.

"Being one-on-one is too passive," Lynn quickly assessed. The AI of this Red Wolf far exceeded the one in his memory. Trying to deal with it alone would likely result in him being ground down by its speed and magic.

"Then... let's call in the boys!"

With a thought, he flicked his left hand forward.

[Summoning: Lone Wolf Ashes]

Three white silhouettes appeared out of thin air, manifesting into three lithe spectral wolves.

"Awooo!"

The moment they appeared, the three wolves charged the Red Wolf, attempting to surround it from three sides. These were Lynn's most trusted early-game companions; countless powerful enemies had fallen to this "wolf pack tactic."

However, this time, they had met their ancestor.

Facing the three charging spectral wolves, the Red Wolf didn't even use magic. It let out a disdainful low growl. Its silhouette suddenly blurred as it charged into the pack like a teleporter.

Slash! Slash! Slash!

Only a few sounds of claws tearing through air could be heard. The three spectral wolves, which had looked so fierce moments ago, didn't even manage to organize a single effective attack before being shredded in mid-air, dissolving into blue motes.

From start to finish, it took less than two seconds.

"My god! My wolves!" Lynn winced in pain for his summons.

But the sacrifice of the three wolves wasn't worthless. They had bought Lynn two precious seconds. While the Red Wolf was occupied with the pack, Lynn had already activated Bloodhound's Step, cutting into the Red Wolf's rear flank at high speed!

He gripped the Bloodhound's Fang with both hands, the blade glowing with a faint crimson light, and slashed down hard at the Red Wolf's hind leg!

Squelch!

The blade bit into flesh, sending a spray of blood flying. The Red Wolf yelped in pain, let out a furious roar, and whipped its head around, opening its massive maw to snap at Lynn. Lynn, having landed the hit, didn't overstay his welcome, immediately using Bloodhound's Step again to zip away.

He glanced at the Red Wolf's leg. A deep, bone-exposing wound remained, and more importantly, an ominous crimson aura was slowly gathering on the injury.

The Hemorrhage bar was already half-full!

"It's working!" Lynn's spirit surged. It was still weak to Bleed. As long as he could trigger the Hemorrhage effect, this buffed Red Wolf wasn't invincible!

The battle that followed turned into a tense war of attrition. Lynn pushed his concentration to the limit; every roll and every dodge was calculated precisely. He stopped trying to use cheap tricks and relied entirely on his battle-hardened instincts to find the fleeting openings between the Red Wolf's tempestuous attacks.

Once again, after dodging a three-hit pounce-and-bite combo, Lynn seized the split-second recovery window. He stepped forward, the Bloodhound's Fang tracing a tricky arc to strike precisely on the previous wound!

Squelch—!

This time, the accumulated Hemorrhage effect finally erupted! A massive burst of crimson light exploded from within the Red Wolf, taking a significant chunk of its vitality with it.

"Awooooo—!"

The Red Wolf let out a piercing howl of agony. The red fur on its body stood on end like burning flames, and an aura far more violent than before erupted! Its amber eyes had now turned a blood-red, berserk color!

Alarm bells rang in Lynn's head, and he retreated instantly. A Red Wolf in Phase 2 was faster by more than just a single tier!

It became a red bolt of lightning that was nearly impossible to track with the naked eye, sprinting madly back and forth across the hall, its claws carving bright sparks into the floor.

Shoo! Shoo! Shoo!

Mid-sprint, it suddenly opened its mouth. This time, it didn't spit out three Pebbles, but three overlapping Glintstone Arcs, forming a magical net with almost no blind spots that swept toward Lynn!

"Too fast!"

Lynn's pupils shrank. He pushed Bloodhound's Step to its absolute limit, just barely slipping through a gap in the magic net. Before he could even catch his breath, the red lightning was already in front of him, a claw burning with magical fire slamming down!

If this hit landed, given his current stats, he'd be half-dead if not outright killed. In that split second, Lynn performed an inconceivable maneuver. He didn't retreat; instead, he stepped forward hard, lowering his body and activating his weapon skill. He turned into a phantom, sliding along the floor right under the Red Wolf's raised forelimb!

Slide!

Boom!

The burning wolf claw slammed heavily into his previous position, the marble floor shattering into a deep crater. Lynn appeared behind the Red Wolf, his back soaked in cold sweat.

However, an even greater crisis followed. Having missed its strike, the Red Wolf tensed its hind legs and launched its massive body into the air, jumping directly onto the ceiling dozens of meters above! Its claws gripped the illusory stars firmly as it looked down at Lynn, its crimson eyes full of tyranny.

"Wait, what kind of move is that?" Lynn looked up at the wolf hanging from the ceiling and couldn't help but curse.

The next second, the Red Wolf manifested a Glintstone Greatsword in its mouth—larger and more solid than the one before. It locked onto Lynn, and its entire body became like a falling meteor, descending vertically with world-shattering momentum!

He stared death in the face, his brain calculating the red dot's trajectory and speed at an unprecedented rate. It's too fast! A regular roll won't cut it!

The only way was to use the invincibility frames to tank it!

The moment before the Red Wolf hit the ground—

"Now!"

Lynn activated Bloodhound's Step. His body became a phantom once more, zipping to the side.

BOOM—ROAR—!

The massive Glintstone sword slammed into the center of the hall. A terrifying shockwave radiated out from the impact point! The entire hall shuddered violently. Lynn's figure solidified at the edge of the shockwave, his internal organs rattled by the aftershock, but he had successfully avoided the lethal core of the attack.

At that moment, the Red Wolf had just landed. Because of that all-out strike, its massive body was stuck in a recovery animation for two full seconds!

This was... the final chance!

A terrifying battle intent erupted in Lynn's eyes. Without hesitation, he poured all his strength into his legs, lunging at the recovery-locked wolf like an arrow. He leaped high, gripping his blade with both hands, his body coiling like a spring.

"Get... down!"

The tip of the Bloodhound's Fang aimed right for the Red Wolf's nape!

Squelch—!

The blade bit into flesh, cutting through it like a hot knife through butter! The entire length of the Bloodhound's Fang sank into the nape, piercing through the wolf's entire torso!

Finally.

The Red Wolf let out one last mournful howl as its violent aura deflated like a punctured balloon. Its massive body began to turn transparent, eventually dissolving into a sky full of blue motes that drifted away into the air.

[Runes Acquired: 15,000]

Lynn dropped to one knee, using the Bloodhound's Fang to prop himself up as he gasped for air. The battle was over.

Where the Red Wolf had vanished, an item radiating a soft golden glow—looking like a crystallized memory—floated quietly in mid-air. Lynn struggled to his feet, walked over, and grabbed it.

[Obtained: Memory Stone ×1]

"A Memory Stone? I don't even have a single spell. What use is a Memory Stone to me right now?" Lynn grumbled, stowing the stone away.

Only then did he notice that beside the round table where the Red Wolf had dissipated, a cluster of warm, golden light had quietly emerged from the floor. He knew that shape all too well—a Site of Grace.

"Finally." Lynn breathed a sigh of relief and walked over. Reaching the Grace, he touched the warm light.

A wave of warmth instantly flooded his body. The fatigue from battle, the muscle aches, the bruises from rolling, and the exhaustion of his stamina were all restored in an instant. His entire state returned to its peak, and his mind felt significantly clearer.

[Status Restored] [Site of Grace "Red Wolf Parlor" Discovered]

Lynn didn't leave immediately. He sat down by the Grace and opened his system panel.

[Name: Lynn] [Level: 1]

Strength: SSS 1230

Endurance: SSS 1242

Dexterity: SSS 1235

Agility: SSS 1245

Magic: S 1000

[Stats have met the threshold. Use a Great Rune to Level Up?]

"No rush. I heard it's better to push these stats a bit higher before leveling up."

If he could min-max, why wouldn't he? Lynn invested all the Runes he had accumulated into his attributes.

Strength: SSS 1230 → SSS 1430

Endurance: SSS 1242 → SSS 1542

Dexterity: SSS 1235 → SSS 1535

Agility: SSS 1245 → SSS 1545

Magic: S 1000 → SSS 1200

Lynn set a small goal: once all stats reached 2000, he would level up. Would he be able to fight Level 3s as a Level 2 then?

"Alright, that'll do for now."

He stood up and stretched. Having all stats over 1500... Eina had mentioned that exceeding 900 was already considered incredible. He wondered if she'd scream if she saw this panel. He clenched his fist, feeling the surging power flowing within him.

"Let's go see what other good stuff is ahead."

Lynn stepped out of the Red Wolf Parlor. The scenery outside had changed again. It was no longer the stained-glass corridor, but a narrow, winding stone staircase leading downward. It was only wide enough for one person; the walls were rough and cold, smelling of dampness.

Lynn lightened his footsteps, descending one step at a time. The stairs weren't long—about three stories down—before the view opened up.

It was another courtyard, but smaller, resembling an atrium. It was square, surrounded by tall stone walls covered in deep green moss. In the center, there was no fountain or statue, only a withered, gnarled old tree.

Standing beneath the tree was a figure. A knight clad in magnificent silver armor stood tall, his back to Lynn.

Lynn knew that armor style all too well—especially the iconic twin-moon insignia on the pauldrons and helmet.

"The Richest Man! Why are you here, Moongrum?!"

A Carian Knight. In the Academy of Raya Lucaria, they were the top tier of combat power, second only to the Queen of the Full Moon herself. They weren't like those squishy apprentices who could only spam Glintstone Pebbles. These guys were master swordsmen, proficient in magic, and balanced in both offense and defense.

"Finally, a tough nut to crack."

The corner of Lynn's mouth curled up, a long-absent battle intent burning in his eyes. He didn't choose to sneak attack. Against a teacher of this caliber, an ambush would be disrespectful. More importantly, he needed a balanced duel to test his new strength.

He walked out openly, his footsteps echoing clearly in the silent yard. The Carian Knight moved at the sound. Almost the moment Lynn stepped into the yard, the knight slowly turned around.

The eyes beneath the helmet flickered with a cold blue light. His right hand gripped a Glintstone Straight Sword, while his left held a silver heater shield engraved with frost patterns.

"Hello. I'd like to pass. What do you say?"

Lynn spoke softly to himself, rolling his wrists. He could feel the surging power within him after the point investment screaming for a hearty battle.

The Carian Knight didn't waste words; it didn't even make a sound. It simply raised its sword toward Lynn and then lowered its body slightly, settling into a standard Carian swordplay opening stance.

"Good. Seems we're on the same page."

Lynn complimented the knight, spinning the Bloodhound's Fang into a flourish before pointing the tip diagonally at the ground. He didn't rush his attack, instead carefully observing the knight's movements, looking for those familiar telegraphs from his memory.

The knight struck first. It kicked off the ground, lunging toward Lynn like an arrow. The Carian Knight's Sword traced a fierce arc through the air, aimed straight for Lynn's face!
