He stepped lightly on the pedal before clicking the green icon on his screen and positioning the phone on the holder.
"You're sewing. I thought you were taking a break."
Not even a hi! How you doing this guy.
"Guys rooms look more like dungeons."
"You went to his home, thought you were in country R."
"And they have a home here, the five of them. I just want something other than Rashid's paintings bringing life to Riley's place, what are you up to Nicole?"
"I..."
"What is it?"
"How bad is it?"
The girl chuckled, wherever their minds had gone just at her hesitating didn't seem good but maybe it showed they cared...in their own impossible ways.
"He brought his parents to our home."
"Ooooh!"
Their was silence as they tried to get a way to talk about it without poking at the hornet's nest.
"It was unexpected."
"You aren't twenty yet."
"That's one, not very important because she's done enough with him, but you weren't serious about him."
"I thought I was also just a passing train to him until yesterday."
"Has he ever come over, you know, to your house?"
"Dropped me off once or ten times, bought my mom tonics when she had a cold. Tiny things, not enough to make me think about them. I got his mom a fruit basket before and I never thought anything of it."
"Then what?"
The silence was enough, it told them enough. Although he'd come over and introduced himself, she was still the same, had the same mindset. Which was sad if you thought about the way she acted and moved around him.
"What about your parents?"
"Have you talked to him?"
"He said it was nothing major and I shouldn't think much of it."
"What about your parents?"
"They have been silent about it, I feel like they are letting me boil then explode before they react."
This was hard, it wasn't something he'd dealt with. He didn't know how to advice her or what to do at this point. He knew about much because of his mom's boutique, too much gossip. Just use someone's way to give advice and it works, but this was new. Should he ask his mom, but they were on a video call.
"What do you think of it?"
He looked at Blane's face and smiled, sometimes Blane could be on top of his game.
"When called downstairs, I didn't think much until his parents began saying how much he'd talked about me and they just wanted to meet me, then I spiraled."
She sighed then turned to Taffy,
"What are you up to these past days?"
A drop on the subject. Many people in my circle were good at this, always trying to deflect but I didn't have a way to help her. From what I know about her, she infact didn't like the guy, but he treated her well, was there to help her and listen to her so she agreed to seeing him.
To me that was leading him on.
The guy was in his final year doing electrical engineering. Apparently, he was going for his attachment and that was when Nicole wanted to break it off with him. In her words, she'd told me once that she felt he was too good for her.
She could still do that, meeting the parents didn't mean everything was set. How many people got divorces out there?
But, he was everything she saw was good but she didn't feel good about it, she felt like she was using his goodness. I don't think that's right, him saving her, him following her around even with his schedule showed there was something he saw in her, I'd told her that before, but it seems she had shut herself off. Maybe that's even why her parents don't know how to react to all this.
"We have a client that came in last minute, a wedding so there's a lot to do and they are needing it by the weekend."
"Can I come over?"
"Sure! More hands, I'll just tell my mom first so it isn't a problem."
"I also want to come."
"Sure, just two plane tickets away."
I really want to go, being where everything happens could help but then, I could just have them take videos and photos and watch and analyze later. I still have pillows to make, I'd begun them early morning.
**********
The four-wheel shuttled down the road leaving dust in it's wake.
"Who are we offending here?"
Kristoff who'd just arrived in the break of dawn was already at the wheel.
"Me!"
"Be real man, we are using ourselves this time."
"True, and it's someone Red didn't want to offend, even though you're practically family now."
"He's currently working under the Faldress family was all he said."
"Those aren't hard to deal with, what didn't he say?"
That one of the prodigals, Bridge, who wanted to usurp the throne was back and was there to do it whether the family liked it or not. The reason he'd not gotten involved was because these families were intricate webs. You didn't know where anyone stood until the very end.
"Why did you choose to follow me?"
"You hate these cars..."
"And you didn't want security involved."
Kristoff should be tired, afterall, working non-stop just because he wanted to come over then the journey from that village, to the capital then here. Must have taken a toll.
"I just need information from him."
"You still keep it under classified?"
"What if he doesn't have it?"
I took a mask from a compartment and put it on, we were in enemy territory now,
"Hell have it, the problem is, if it's not good enough, I might have to execute."
Or I might just go for it without learning a thing. He was supposed to be dead, let him stay dead. I just wanted to know what he had on the Or his family that they let him go. That mans reaction said a lot more was in the dark, I just wanted light there, even the tiniest bit.
"Blue!"
The man before me had on a yellow mask...quite audacious if you ask me, only the family had could have that mask on, and I knew the old man enough to know before his death, he wouldn't let it go.
"Or are you just an imposter?"
"Shouldn't I ask you that? The old man really let you fly huh!"
"Knowing too much isn't the best for someone so young, you should get your elders."
I smiled, elders? There are none, if he were the real head he'd know it. People knew the name Blue, associated it with a lot but hadn't met Blue himself except for the heads. In a world where I had curved a place for me and my brother's, why should I need elders who just made people puppets.
"I don't want to go in circles so give this man to me."
"If not?"
"Then the loses won't be great for whatever this cause is."
It had always been Red, Yellow then Blue. After that, there was Orange, Green, Violet. It had been long since we fought, not that long if you count Quint's tendencies to cause havoc when he felt he was pressed to the ground too much.
There was a reason the old man had let him walk around and even flaunting a fake mask. I didn't want to find out, though knowing would be of help if they were thinking of a territorial fight.
Having a good number of descendants eyeing the throne was something no one looked forward to.
He seemed to be contemplating then laughed, the gun shotade me sigh, he's always this fast to act...I even think the major reason he'd rushed over was because he'd sniffed trouble.
But this was easier, it meant I could easily go back and have dinner with Blane. Also, I was easily gaining something over someone's head.
