Chapter 46 - Weight of the Gaze

Alistair went to the Sunborne directly.

He didn't go to fight, and he didn't go to negotiate in any conventional sense. 

He went to speak to whoever was arguing against Caldren's offer, intent on saying something that couldn't be transmitted through intermediaries or dispatches.

Due mapped every possible consequence before they left. 

He sat at the table with his hands working through obligation threads for an hour. 

His collar adjusted at intervals that Alistair had learned to read as the severity of his findings. Frequent adjustments meant the consequences were significant.

Due adjusted his collar eleven times during the mapping, which was more than Alistair had ever counted.

"All significant," Due said eventually. "None impossible to survive." He looked at Alistair with a worried expression.
