Chapter 66: Filthy Soul
"Urgh…"
As a Spirit Master with the Abomination Martial Soul, someone who mainly lived by scavenging, could even chew through stones, and normally did not care how foul something smelled, Lu Genggeng felt for the first time in his life what a truly unbearable stench was.
It was not a smell that attacked the nose, but a stimulus aimed directly at the Soul, one that was perceived as a foul odor through the rot poison.
What Chen Ming exhaled was not merely the rot poison and plague carried by his Spirit Ability. Mixed within it was also the Filth Qi Chen Ming had accumulated.
Filth Qi was not simple energy. It was a form of impurity, and a particularly terrible one at that, something even an Evil Soul Master would find hard to endure. Chen Ming could accumulate this energy and use it as a weapon only because he himself was too special. Lu Genggeng, however, had no resistance to this kind of power at all.
As the Filth Qi poured into Lu Genggeng's body through his facial features, he instantly felt weak all over. His mind turned sluggish, his spirit power circulation slowed, and even his control over his own body became dull and unresponsive.
It was as if some foreign filth had been forcibly mixed into his body, making him no longer pure. Every action felt like it was separated by a layer of cloth.
In his dazed state, Lu Genggeng was knocked to the ground by Chen Ming's punch to the stomach. Then he involuntarily bent over and started vomiting, emptying everything in his stomach at once.
Undigested flesh, food, stomach acid...
Even after his stomach had been completely emptied and there was nothing left to throw up, Lu Genggeng still could not summon any spirit or appetite. He kept retching nonstop, unable even to stand up and continue facing Chen Ming.
If they did not pursue purity, then nine out of ten Evil Soul Masters would have their minds affected by their way of cultivation. Lu Genggeng was still young, so his mental force was not strong to begin with, and his cultivation had also placed too much emphasis on speed. Normally this would not count as a flaw, but Chen Ming's Filth Qi just happened to be a kind of defilement that targeted both the mind and the body. Given Chen Ming's current cultivation and accumulation, the more impurities a person naturally carried, the easier it was for them to be affected. If it had been an ordinary Spirit Master who got hit by this, their reaction would actually have been far less severe.
Looking at Lu Genggeng, who had already released his Spirit Possession and was still kneeling on the ground vomiting with vacant eyes, as if his whole mind had been broken, Chen Ming walked over and gave him an unsatisfied kick. Then he went to Zhao Sanjin's side and released his own Spirit Possession as well.
"Old Zhao, I won this one, right?"
"Naturally, you won." Zhao Sanjin raised a brow, though his eyes held a trace of curiosity.
"This method of yours is not something the Abomination Martial Soul should possess. It feels somewhat similar to one of my own abilities. Still, everyone has their own secrets. As long as you can control it, that is enough."
With a wave of his hand, Zhao Sanjin sent a streak of purple-black light into Lu Genggeng's body, using a special method akin to fighting poison with poison to temporarily suppress his chaotic state.
"Lu Genggeng, you lost. Hand over the wager."
"Urgh..." Lu Genggeng struggled to his feet in panic. He did not even dare leave behind any harsh words. After throwing out the Spirit Bone, he turned and ran toward the manor where his grandfather lived.
The abilities of Evil Soul Masters were sinister one after another. Lu Genggeng truly feared that Chen Ming had secretly planted some curse or similar hidden method on him, one that would ruin his future.
In a sense, Lu Genggeng was not wrong. Although Chen Ming had not used a curse, it was no easier to remove than one.
This sort of double defilement, rooted in both the Soul and the body, was not only difficult to wash away, but would also greatly affect a Spirit Master's mental state, condition, and cultivation speed. Once contaminated, it was truly troublesome to deal with.
Given the Holy Spirit Cult's background and Hate Douluo's strength, Chen Ming believed the defilement could definitely be handled. As for how long it would take, and to what extent it could finally be removed, that was another matter entirely.
Chen Ming picked up the Spirit Bone from the ground, looked at it for a moment, then stuffed it directly into Zhao Sanjin's hands.
"What are you doing?" Zhao Sanjin quickly waved both hands, though he was clearly a little tempted. While he did need Spirit Bones for research, he had never planned to take one from Chen Ming.
"Old Zhao, I'll be going out for a while soon. I heard you are one of the top curse masters in the cult, and very few can compare to you in this area. Could you give me something that can resist curses?"
"Ah, that..." Zhao Sanjin thought for a moment. In the end, he could not resist Chen Ming's insistence and accepted the Spirit Bone. "Come with me, then. I'll give you a treasure."
Zhao Sanjin took Chen Ming back to his room and pulled a spirit tool shaped like a jade pendant from a hidden compartment.
"This is a Class 6 spirit tool called the Evil-Warding Omen Amulet. I made it by using a thousand-year Spirit Bone as the main material and combining it with special techniques."
"Although it cannot provide physical defense, as long as you inject spirit power into it, it can detect whether the user has been cursed. It cannot detect every kind of curse, but it can at least sense most of them."
"If you continue feeding it spirit power, it can temporarily suppress or delay the effects of a curse. But once it reaches its limit, this spirit tool will shatter completely."
"This was the first special spirit tool I refined after joining the Holy Spirit Cult in my early years, when I combined the nature of my Spirit with the cult's knowledge. It is only a prototype. I have never used it all these years, so today I'll give it to you."
"Thank you, Old Zhao." Chen Ming clasped his fists in gratitude.
This spirit tool alone had been made using a thousand-year Spirit Bone as its core material. Its production cost already exceeded the Spirit Bone Chen Ming had just won, not to mention its rare ability to detect and suppress curses.
Although it was nominally an exchange, in truth it was no different from Zhao Sanjin giving it away for free.
"It's nothing, it's nothing. It's only an old prototype anyway, and I have no use for it." Zhao Sanjin waved his hand, pretending not to care.
"Oh, right, Xiao Ming, didn't you come here to borrow a book? Lu Genggeng is gone now. If you want to borrow it, go ahead."
"Thank you, Old Zhao."
After thinking for a moment, Chen Ming borrowed the book he had wanted earlier and returned to a Quiet Room to read.
This book was about the fusion of toxins, how to use outside forces to combine other poisons or energies with a Spirit Master's own toxin, and methods for strengthening one's personal poison.
The concept of the book was quite good. Unfortunately, most of its contents were still speculative, and the number of stable toxin-fusion channels it recorded was very limited. At best, it could provide a few broad methods and templates for combining toxins.
After all, there were not merely hundreds or thousands of kinds of poison. Even the toxins of two Spirit Masters with the exact same Spirit would differ because of their cultivation path and the spirit rings they had absorbed.
Using external forces to fuse toxins was itself an extremely dangerous matter. The slightest difference in detail could cause a completely different outcome. Under those conditions, the fact that the Holy Spirit Cult could compile even a few broadly applicable methods and templates was already the limit of what it could do.
