Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: The Eight Extraordinary Meridians?

Chapter 25: The Eight Extraordinary Meridians?

Zhao Sanjin questioned Chen Ming for a long time.

At first, the questions were only basic concepts, but later they became more and more tricky. Even when the questions became the sort clearly designed to trip him up, Chen Ming could still answer them vaguely. His answers were not always complete, but they were correct.

Occasionally, one of his answers would even make Zhao Sanjin's eyes light up. He felt that although the knowledge Chen Ming gave did not come from the library, it was more precise and struck closer to the core of the problem than the existing knowledge recorded there. Even Zhao Sanjin himself felt a trace of inspiration from it.

In Zhao Sanjin's view, this had to be because of the teachings of the 6th Consecrated Elder, Scorpion Tiger Douluo Zhang Peng.

As expected of a Super Douluo.

Could it be that the occasional scraps of knowledge revealed by a Disciple could actually benefit him, a Spirit Douluo?

Of course, the truth was not entirely like that.

Although a small part really did come from things Zhang Peng had said, which Chen Ming had remembered, a large part actually came from the understanding Chen Ming had retained from the books he had read in his previous life. Perhaps that knowledge was not completely accurate, but it was undeniably profound. It was only that Chen Ming himself did not yet know how to apply it.

It was not until Zhao Sanjin began testing him on the historical stories of Spirit Masters recorded in the book that Chen Ming started to stumble.

And Chen Ming really had something to say about that.

"Shrek beautifies and rationalizes its own actions too much in the books. I have enmity with Shrek, and I only feel that Shrek is one thing on the surface and another underneath. When I see those disguised stories, I feel sick, so I find them hard to remember."

Zhao Sanjin nodded in understanding and accepted Chen Ming's explanation.

After all, the textbook [Introductory Guide to Basic Spirit Master Common Knowledge] had originally been pried out of Shrek. The fact that Shrek allowed this textbook to circulate was itself part of an intention to implant a great image of Shrek into the minds of novice Spirit Masters. Most of the stories in it were beautified to the point of unreality.

Seeing that Chen Ming had managed to grasp the basics of foundational common knowledge in only a few days, Zhao Sanjin felt inwardly delighted.

In this era, talent and even Martial Souls could be improved. But a dull mind was simply a dull mind. Some people, even after reaching the level of Super Douluo or even Limit Douluo, with greatly enhanced spiritual power and thought speed, still remained dull in mind.

In Zhao Sanjin's eyes, Chen Ming was clearly the sharp minded type.

And since that was the case, Zhao Sanjin was naturally not stingy with his guidance.

He placed the book Chen Ming had been carrying onto the table and proudly patted his chest.

"Very good. Since you already have some understanding of the basic common knowledge, then it is time for you to learn about [Spirit Power and Meridians]. Tell me where exactly you are confused, and I can explain it to you."

"Elder Zhao, I always feel that the human body has more than just 12 meridians. Aside from the 4 limbs, when Spirit Power circulates, I can also feel a strange sensation inside my body."

"Compared to the 4 limbs, the structure of the torso and internal organs is clearly much more complex. So why are there only records of meridians in the limbs, while the torso has none? Even if one only reasons from the positions of Spirit Bones, limb bones, torso bones, and head bones, then the torso should clearly also have meridians and routes for Spirit Power to flow through."

"This..."

Zhao Sanjin's pupils contracted, and surprise appeared on his face.

"You already figured that out? Is this really talent... So many people can spend their whole lives without understanding such a thing, yet you inferred it purely from feeling and deduction? Terrifying, truly terrifying."

"Your question is excellent, and I can explain it to you."

"Simply put, aside from the meridians in the 4 limbs, the human body has at least 4 more important meridians. However, these meridians fall outside the understanding of ordinary Spirit Masters. They are not part of basic common knowledge, but rather information that is hidden by the great clans and sects."

"These meridians were discovered only after the major sects paid a tremendous price in time and manpower. Once opened, they can greatly increase a Spirit Master's strength, and they are also prerequisites for using certain secret techniques."

"Before I joined the Holy Spirit Cult, I also did not know the methods. It was only because the Holy Spirit Cult possesses a massive amount of anatomical data on the human body that, through study and comparison with many records, I was able to roughly determine the existence and positions of several such meridians."

Zhao Sanjin moved the heavy book aside, then stood up and walked to a nearby bookshelf, pulling several scrolls from his private collection. One after another, he spread them across the table in front of Chen Ming.

"This scroll records the conventional 12 Primary Meridians."

"This scroll records one meridian that I discovered. I believe it originates in the lower abdomen, beginning from the dantian, then extending both upward and downward. One path continues down to the left foot and joins the Foot 3 Yin, while another goes upward to the throat. This is the extra meridian that Spirit Masters are most likely to discover by accident."

Chen Ming could tell immediately that this was the Penetrating Meridian among the 8 Extraordinary Meridians.

"And these 2. This one rises from the inner side of the lower leg up to the abdomen, joins the Foot Taiyin Meridian, and finally reaches the neck area. This other one originates at the outer heel, rises past the outer ankle and the Foot Shaoyang, then continues to the back and shoulder, reaches the forehead, and loops around."

Chen Ming recalled that these 2 meridians were the Yin Link Meridian and the Yang Link Meridian.

"And this one. It wraps around the human body beneath the ribs like a belt. It is the 2nd easiest extra meridian to discover. Because it resembles a belt, I call it the Girdling Meridian. Isn't the name fitting?"

Chen Ming nodded in agreement, because in his previous life, this meridian really had been called the Girdling Meridian.

Of the 8 Extraordinary Meridians, even Zhao Sanjin only understood 4. And his descriptions of them were still rough and general, nowhere near a complete system.

But even so, Chen Ming still leaned forward as much as he could and memorized those route charts, charts built upon an unknown amount of blood and sacrifice.

Whether they were useful or not, it was never wrong to record them first.

However, as soon as he thought of the route maps of the 8 Extraordinary Meridians that he had memorized in his previous life, Chen Ming could not help but wonder whether there might be some way to incorporate those meridians into his Meditation Method and improve the efficiency of his meditation.

"Are you thinking of incorporating these meridians into your Meditation Method as well?"

Zhao Sanjin suddenly spoke, and without waiting for Chen Ming to react, he continued explaining.

"These meridians are not part of the ordinary 12 Primary Meridians. Opening them requires an additional transformation in one's cultivation method and years of gradual stimulation."

"Most Meditation Methods are designed around the circulation routes of certain parts of the 12 Primary Meridians. To open these extraordinary meridians requires systematically rebuilding the method itself. Because the routes differ, and because these meridians influence the attribute of Spirit Power, they affect meditation efficiency at the root."

"There are very few methods on the continent for opening these meridians, and even fewer methods for perfectly integrating them into meditation. Most of the time, even after these meridians are opened, they are mainly used only to their fullest extent when executing secret techniques."

"Many people suspect that the human body has more hidden meridians than just these. If all the hidden meridians could be found and all of them opened, then a cycle could be formed inside the body, allowing energy to flow endlessly and achieve a state of perpetual motion, greatly increasing the fundamental qualities of a Spirit Master."

"But even the Mysterious Heaven Skill created by the Sea God of the Tang Sect, despite the existence of such legends, still does not contain this information in its actual contents. Because of that, this has always remained only an empty concept in the minds of a small number of people..."

Zhao Sanjin sighed.

It was as though, in Chen Ming's previous life, the reason some technologies became advanced was because people had really used human bodies as experimental material on a large scale.

In terms of understanding and making use of the human body, the Holy Spirit Cult was undoubtedly a full generation ahead of the outside world.

Even Shrek, the strongest force on the continent, was far behind it in that respect.

But even within the Holy Spirit Cult, only a small number of people knew about and handled these hidden meridians. At least in the libraries opened to low and mid level Evil Spirit Masters, such special records did not exist.
