Chapter 34 - #34: Are big wins and big losses common?

Ajax ultimately secured a smooth victory in this match.

After the match, the media's attention focused on Sean's pass, with most praising his "selflessness."

There were also some scattered voices in the corners, such as "Sean lacked confidence in his shot, so he chose to pass," and similar narratives, of course.

However, even before the people arranged by Raiola could act, they were spontaneously flamed by fans, causing them to delete their posts and run, so there was nothing more to say.

While enjoying a late-night snack, Natalia was equally curious about this matter.

"I didn't expect your magnanimity to be so vast; he didn't pass to you, wasting a golden opportunity, yet not only were you not angry, but you gave him the chance when you had a very high probability of scoring yourself!"

Sean just waved his hand, "That's not it. Don't I know how magnanimous I am? It's not even close to vast. I passed to him simply because our goals were different."

"What do you mean?"

"What I want isn't just a goal, or rather, not just goals, but victory, preferably a big victory. So, activating my teammates is very important.

I just did something relatively more important; it's not that I don't care about anything."

Sean shrugged and continued eating.

Natalia nodded thoughtfully, "But you didn't achieve a big victory against your opponent in the end, it was only 3-0."

"It doesn't matter. For now, as long as we can get a victory, that's enough. Once everyone is in peak form, a big victory will naturally come!"

"Alright, I wish your plan success!"

...Ajax's schedule this month was very tight.

Due to the World Cup matches in the summer, this season's schedule was already packed, and there was a blank period a few days ago, so it naturally had to be made up for later.

Only two days later, it was time for the 23rd round of the Eredivisie.

PEC Zwolle 1-1 Ajax.

Sean again failed to score or assist.

At this point, Sean himself was a bit suspicious of what was going on, even without the media saying anything.

It was only because Eindhoven also drew that things weren't worse.

The Telegraaf argued confidently, "No need to worry about Sean's scoring rate. Next League round, Ajax will be playing at home, and then, the all-powerful Stiletto Sean will be back!"

Sean:...Thank you. Is that a compliment?

Sean felt quite stifled... On February 15th, in the 24th round of the Eredivisie, Ajax hosted SC Heerenveen.

Just three minutes into the match, Sean received the ball on the left wing and cut inside.

Although he dribbled past two defenders and reached the side of the D-box arc, SC Heerenveen's defense remained intact.

Sean didn't see a clear passing lane, and the opponents' encirclement was about to form, so he decided to try. He struck the ball with his right foot.

"Boom~"

The ball soared into the air, flying over everyone's heads directly towards the goal.

"Clang~"

The ball hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced into the goal!

Ajax 1:0 SC Heerenveen!

Sean:...If I say that was a fluke, would you believe me?

Ajax's morale was greatly boosted, and they launched wave after wave of attacks, centered around Sean's left wing.

In the 27th minute, Sean again took possession of the ball and was immediately surrounded by SC Heerenveen's heavy defense.

Sim De Jong in the middle was even left unattended.

Sean forced his way inside, but then backheeled the ball backwards midway.

Blind smoothly received the ball.

SC Heerenveen players rushed back to defend De Jong in a hurry,

Blind adjusted himself and sent a long diagonal pass to the right flank.

Sean dribbled into the penalty area and took a shot.

The ball found the net again.

Ajax 2-0 SC Heerenveen.

In the 41st minute, De Jong headed the ball backwards from the center of the midfield, sending it directly into the penalty area.

Sean made a late run, took the ball, and charged into the box. He dipped his right shoulder, causing the SC Heerenveen center-back to slow down, turn, and prepare to defend an inside cut.

However, Sean used his right foot to pull the ball back, carrying it into the penalty area.

Facing the goalkeeper's charge and the cover defense from another center-back, Van den Berg, Sean again pulled the ball back with his left foot.

This time it wasn't a feint; Sean decisively pulled the ball back successfully, cut inside, and immediately shot with his right foot.

The ball found the net again.

Ajax 3-0 SC Heerenveen.

In the 56th minute, Sean swapped positions to the right wing and successfully received the ball after rushing into the penalty area.

Van den Berg was a step late and instinctively reached out to pull, and although he quickly reacted and let go, it was already too late.

Sean fell to the ground,

The referee blew his whistle,

Penalty.

Sean didn't hesitate and scored a hat-trick with a single kick.

Yes, his first hat-trick in the Eredivisie.

Ajax 4-0 SC Heerenveen.

Frank de Boer quickly substituted Sean.

This was not only to protect Sean but also to conserve energy for the next match.

The match ultimately ended 5-0.

Sean had helped another team set a record, and although it was only a season record, that still earned him 100 bond points.

Unfortunately, the lottery effect was very unsatisfactory.

What the hell is "Outing (A)"?

It's a goalkeeper skill!

Although I'm determined to explore the limits of human potential in football, I never intended to develop goalkeeper skills!

Alas, since things have come to this, I can only accept it... After this match, Ajax immediately traveled to Salzburg, Austria.

On February 20th, the Europa League Round of 32 was approaching, and Ajax was to challenge Salzburg Red Bull away from home.

Amsterdam is not far from Salzburg; a direct flight takes less than two hours.

There was ample time, and although it was only a four-day interval, it was enough to recover physically.

At least Sean felt his physical recovery was very good.

However, Sean never expected the match to unfold this way.

In the 67th minute of the match, Salzburg Red Bull once again passed the ball into the Ajax penalty area.

Mane cut diagonally into the box, got into position, and pushed a shot.

The ball found the net again, and the score on the field became 3:0.

By international convention, the home team is listed first, followed by the away team.

Ajax was three goals down!

The Red Bull Arena erupted in cheers, but Sean felt his head was about to explode!

Falling behind by a large margin in a match was always something opponents experienced; for Sean, this was truly the first time.

Sean looked up and observed the surrounding stands.

He couldn't understand what the Red Bull fans were singing, but the way they jumped and sang together, shoulder to shoulder, looked incredibly joyful.

It formed a stark contrast with the silent away team fan section in the corner.

"Am I just going to accept this?"

Sean muttered to himself, anger surging from his heart to his head, "Absolutely not!"

"Hey, guys!" Sean shouted to his teammates, "When you get the ball and don't know what to do with it, pass it to me!"

"Pass all the balls to me!"

"I'll handle it!"

"Do you understand?"

Salzburg Red Bull's three goals were all identical: after successfully pressing and winning the ball in the attacking third, they passed it into the penalty area, and then,

Soriano, Alan, and Mane each scored.

In Sean's opinion, this was simply unbelievable.

Ajax players, if nothing else, were all outstanding in their individual techniques, and their passing and movement synergy was top-notch, so how could they not withstand Red Bull's high press?

But they just couldn't resist!

They conceded three goals!

It was too humiliating; they had to get back at them!

Sean clenched his fists, his nails almost digging into his flesh...
