Chapter 87 - Inviting someone to afternoon tea isn't considered bribery, is it?

Liu Shu's lips opened and closed repeatedly, then opened and closed again. After a long while, she finally steeled herself, "Su Mianmian, you can do it. Show me the QR code, and I'll transfer it to you right now!"

Watching the money in her phone disappear into Su Mianmian's pocket in such a short time, Liu Shu was furious. That was half a month's salary! Liu Shu's teeth were practically grinding to powder. Su Mianmian, you just wait!

Su Mianmian hadn't actually intended for Liu Shu to compensate her. It was mainly because Liu Shu's character was so terrible. Gu Yizhou was right; for those who tried to bully her, she should be dealt with ruthlessly!

The anger from being framed by Liu Shu yesterday had subsided, and the slight discomfort from being teased by colleagues about appearing in Gu Yizhou and Liu Shu's photo had also disappeared. She'd even unexpectedly received a windfall.

Overjoyed, Su Mianmian treated the entire language department to afternoon tea. He Suyan was on the phone when she heard a knock on the office door and called out, "Come in!" A moment later, a pair of delicate, fair hands placed an afternoon tea on her desk.

The movement was extremely light; after placing it, she tiptoed out. He Suyan frowned, hung up the phone, and called out to the person about to leave the office. "Su Mianmian," Su Mianmian replied reflexively, "Here."

Turning back to He Suyan's cold gaze, she asked, "Manager He, what are your instructions?" He Suyan gestured with his chin towards the afternoon tea on the table. "What do you mean? A bribe?"

Su Mianmian truly had no such intention, quickly waving her hands. "Not just Manager He, I've invited all my colleagues. Besides, it's just afternoon tea; it doesn't qualify as a bribe."

He Suyan glanced through the blinds at the cubicles outside the office and, sure enough, saw a tea set on everyone's desk. His frown deepened.

"Three days of work, not a penny paid, and you're even paying out of pocket? Su Mianmian, if you're so rich, why are you even working?" Su Mianmian bit her lip, remaining silent. He Suyan watched as Su Mianmian's fair cheeks flushed crimson, making her dark eyes appear even more moist. "I just told you yesterday, don't waste your time on trivial things. Focusing on your profession is more important than anything else."

Su Mianmian pouted, thinking, "He Suyan is indeed as everyone says, a super iceberg. She kindly brought him afternoon tea, and he caught her and lectured her." While inwardly grumbling, Su Mianmian obediently said, "I understand, Manager He."

Seeing her good attitude, He Suyan gave up, waving his hand to indicate that Su Mianmian could leave. Su Mianmian breathed a sigh of relief, but just as she reached the door, He Suyan called her back. "Wait!"

Su Mianmian almost cried, thinking He Suyan wanted her to take the afternoon tea away. "Manager He, it's just afternoon tea, really not a bribe, you don't need to be so polite." He Suyan coldly looked at Su Mianmian's tearful face.

"I didn't ask you to take it out, just wanted to say thank you. Also, are you free tonight?" Su Mianmian hummed in surprise. He Suyan's topic shifted so quickly. But what did asking if she was free tonight mean?

Although Su Mianmian didn't understand, she obediently answered, "Yes." He Suyan nodded. "There's a business event tonight that needs a Korean translator. If you're free, you can work overtime for a fee. It'll also be a good opportunity to test your interpreting skills."

Oh, that's what it was. Su Mianmian was immediately pleased. She preferred interpreting to written translation. "Am I going alone?" He Suyan frowned. "What, are you afraid?"

Su Mianmian quickly shook her head. "No, it's just that I haven't done any formal interpreting before, and I'm worried about unexpected situations that I won't be able to handle." He Suyan lowered her head to work. "A colleague will be with you."

Su Mianmian finally felt relieved. After taking the materials He Suyan gave her, she quietly sat down at her workstation to prepare. Xia Qing saw the materials in her hand and curiously slid over in her chair. "Mianmian, Manager He arranged business interpreting for you?"

Su Mianmian nodded. "He said it's to test my interpreting skills."

Xia Qing's eyes widened. "That's great! You've only been interning for a few days and you already have this opportunity. It seems Manager He is quite attentive to you. Mianmian, seize this opportunity. It would be best if Manager He personally mentored you, then that Liu Yaojiao (a nickname) won't be able to control you anymore."

Su Mianmian didn't think too much about it; she just wanted to focus on the task at hand. While concentrating on reviewing the documents, Song Zhi called. As soon as she answered, a loud voice burst from the receiver. "Su Mianmian, did you see the trending topics this morning?"

Su Mianmian hadn't expected Gu Yizhou and Xue Jing's scandal to have reached A University, and she felt a headache coming on. "Zhizhi, you saw it too?" Song Zhi was furious, her hair practically steaming. "Of course I saw it! Tell me honestly, is that woman Xue Jing causing trouble again?"

Su Mianmian was utterly amazed by Song Zhi's judgment. "I don't know if she did it on purpose, but anyway, those rumors on the trending topics are completely untrue. I was there the whole time last night, and there was absolutely nothing between them." Su Mianmian then recounted the events of the previous night to Song Zhi. After listening, Song Zhi ground her teeth, "I told you to be wary of her! And you, not only did you send your husband to play the hero, but you even had him hug her! Su Mianmian, you're incredibly naive!"

Su Mianmian was actually a little regretful at this point, "I didn't think much of it when I saw how pitifully she was being beaten."

"You didn't think much of it, but she thought a lot more. Maybe she even arranged for the paparazzi to spread rumors about her and Gu Yizhou."

Su Mianmian frowned, "That's unlikely. Going to eat Japanese food with Gu Yizhou was a last-minute decision; Xue Jing couldn't possibly know."

Song Zhi sighed, "In short, the thoughts of those high-level green tea bitches are beyond the comprehension of ordinary people like you and me. All you need to do is stay away from her, and make sure your husband stays even further away!"

Su Mianmian nodded, indicating she understood, and then casually asked Song Zhi about her progress with Cheng Yuli. Song Zhi had been having a terrible headache over this for the past few days, and she poured her heart out to Su Mianmian. Su Mianmian's mouth formed an "O" shape after hearing this. "You said Cheng Yuli was bullied to tears by you?"

"What do you mean he was bullied to tears? He shed tears of sadness because he couldn't have me." Su Mianmian chuckled. "And then what happened? What was the final outcome?"

Song Zhi sighed. "It's annoying that nothing was said. These past few days, wherever I go, I'm guaranteed to see that jerk Cheng Yuli within ten meters. He's not trying to pursue me; he's trying to wear me down!"

Su Mianmian found the image of that scene inexplicably amusing. "Zhizhi, if it really doesn't work out, why don't you just get Cheng Yuli? I think you two together would be quite fun." "Stop! Hold on! Is dating a game?

Fun? Aren't you afraid he'll play me to death one day!" Song Zhi had a lot of grievances to pour out to Su Mianmian, but Su Mianmian had to work. The two agreed to meet on Sunday before reluctantly hanging up. ...Gu's Group.

Gu Yizhou stared at his phone at the endless stream of comments and videos shipping him and Xue Jing, his face grim. Gao Ze stood before his desk, cold sweat dripping down his back. "Mr. Gu, the trending topics can be removed, but those screenshots from before can't be completely wiped clean."

Gu Yizhou paused for two seconds, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Then clarify it on the Gu Group's official website." Gao Ze asked, "How…how?"

Gu Yizhou gave him a sharp look, and Gao Ze almost went weak in the knees. He tentatively asked, "Is it clarifying that your relationship with Miss Xue is untrue, or officially announcing that you are already married?"

Gu Yizhou placed his hands on his desk, his gaze coolly fixed on Gao Ze. "Can't you do both at once?" Gao Ze paused for two seconds, then immediately understood. "Yes, Mr. Gu, I'll get right on it." "Wait!"

Gao Ze took two steps, then turned back, looking respectfully at Gu Yizhou. "Does Mr. Gu have any further instructions?" Gu Yizhou took off his glasses and rubbed his nose. "Be careful with your wording. Your wife doesn't like being high-profile, and she's just started working in a new environment. Don't leak her information."

Gao Ze nodded. "Understood, Mr. Gu."
