Chapter 82 - Slap in the face

Inside the meeting room, the executives, seeing the smile on Gu Yizhou's lips, exchanged bewildered glances, as if they'd seen a ghost. Executive A: Could it be that the aloof CEO Gu is really in love? With that popular actress, Xue Jing?

Executive B: Definitely! What iceberg, what unattainable beauty? He's got a love brain too! Executive C: Good thing! He can spend more time with his girlfriend now, instead of enslaving us all day!

Meanwhile, on the other side, the executive who had previously met Su Mianmian at Gu Yizhou's house watched the others exchange thoughts with a profound and inscrutable expression. Inwardly, he thought: You bunch of idiots! What girlfriend? What Xue Jing? She's his little wife!

Su Mianmian, her face flushed, frowned at the message Gu Yizhou had sent. Xia Qing returned with coffee, bringing Su Mianmian a cup as well.

"Mianmian, impressive! You used minimal effort to achieve maximum effect, catching that little devil Liu completely off guard. Honestly, did you have a mentor behind you?" Su Mianmian quickly put her phone away, ready to tell the truth.

Suddenly, she remembered what Gu Yizhou had said last night: "When you first join the company, you don't know anyone, so don't open up too easily." After thinking for a moment, she shook her head. "No mentor. I thought about it all night, and I think it's best not to go against Deputy Manager Liu."

"Is that so? I thought..." Xia Qing glanced at the innocent-looking Su Mianmian and chuckled. "Never mind, as long as the result is good, the process doesn't matter." All morning, Liu Shu didn't assign Su Mianmian any work.

Su Mianmian didn't dare sit idly by. Seeing colleagues struggling, she proactively offered to help. Everyone quite liked Su Mianmian, the intern, thinking she was pretty, well-behaved, and hardworking.

"Mianmian, I didn't expect you to translate so quickly! You must have passed the C1 exam, right?" Su Mianmian had just finished translating a document for a male colleague, who praised her highly after proofreading it. Su Mianmian waved her hand, "Just took the exam, I don't know if I passed yet."

The male colleague's name was Zeng Ke, a sunny-looking man who had been with Huarui for four years, considered a senior employee. "With your abilities, you should be fine." Just as she finished speaking, Liu Shu strode over in her high heels and slammed a stack of documents onto Su Mianmian's desk.

"Su Mianmian, is this your translation level? Look at the mess you've made!"

Liu Shu's voice was loud and angry, immediately drawing everyone in the office to look at Su Mianmian. Su Mianmian's face flushed instantly. She glanced at the documents on the desk; they were the ones she had translated last night. "Deputy Manager Liu, is there a problem with these documents?"

"You have the nerve to ask me? Look at them yourself! You can even translate basic vocabulary wrong. I think either you have a problem with your expertise, or you're just too careless. Someone like you is simply not suited for translation!"

Zeng Ke couldn't stand Liu Shu's arrogant attitude and her overbearing manner. "Is there some misunderstanding? Su Mianmian just translated a document for me, and I checked it; the quality is fine."

Liu Shu gave Zeng Ke a cold look and casually tossed him a copy of the document. "You're a French major too, so take a look yourself."

While Zeng Ke was checking the document, Su Mianmian was also carefully checking it herself. She found that there were indeed many translation errors.

The funny thing was, some simple words, like one plus one equals two, were ingrained in her; she could translate them perfectly even with her eyes closed. But what was presented on the document was wrong, and terribly wrong at that.

"Deputy Manager Liu, these are all basic words; there's absolutely no way I could have mistranslated them."

Zeng Ke chimed in, "That's right. If it involves specialized terminology, it's understandable for a newcomer like Su Mianmian to make mistakes, but to mistranslate these basic words so blatantly is highly unlikely."

Liu Shu looked at the two of them sarcastically, arms crossed. "Then what do you mean? It's all in black and white; you personally handed it to my office. Do you think I would cheat you?"

Su Mianmian pursed her lips. "Is someone sabotaging this? I have a backup on my computer; I can just print another copy and compare." As Su Mianmian spoke, she searched for the backup file on her computer, but after searching for a while, the backup suddenly disappeared.

Su Mianmian frowned. "That's not right. I remember saving it last night when I left work." Zeng Ke glanced at Liu Shu and reassured Su Mianmian, "Don't worry, look again." Su Mianmian searched again, but still couldn't find it.

Liu Shu looked as if she had expected this. "You can even forget such a basic operation as backup? See? This is your work ability." Liu Shu waved her hand. "Su Mianmian, you're simply not suitable for our language department. Starting tomorrow, you don't need to come anymore!"

"Deputy Manager Liu, everyone makes mistakes. Su Mianmian has only been working for two days. There's no need to fire her on her first day," several colleagues chimed in. "Yes, as a newcomer, her abilities are quite good."

"The most important thing now is to solve the problem, not to deal with the person who caused it."

Xia Qing, who had just come out of the restroom and saw this scene, also spoke up for Su Mianmian, "Deputy Manager Liu, regardless of whether it's Su Mianmian's fault or not, please give her another chance, considering it's her first time interning."

"I'll give her a chance, but who will give me one?"

Liu Shu retorted sharply, "Do you know how rude the client was when they called to complain? If I hadn't spoken up for them, they would have canceled their cooperation with Huarui. Then, the loss wouldn't just be a simple order, but the entire reputation of Huarui."

"Tell me, who among you can bear that responsibility?" Hearing this, the people who had just spoken up for Su Mianmian all fell silent. Liu Shu sneered twice, about to directly kick Su Mianmian out, when suddenly a clear, cold voice rang out.

"What are you all doing here instead of doing anything?" Su Mianmian looked up and saw a man in a white shirt and black suit walking steadily towards them.

Su Mianmian recognized him immediately; it was He Suyan, the language department manager who had applied for her job. Everyone greeted He Suyan, "Manager He."

He Suyan didn't look at her directly. He glanced at Su Mianmian first, then his cool gaze fell indifferently on Liu Shu. "Deputy Manager Liu, is there a problem?" Liu Shu was always domineering and bossy in the office, but she was slightly intimidated by He Suyan.

Her previously arrogant demeanor instantly diminished. "Manager He, the intern who just started her internship made a significant mistake, and I'm considering dismissing her." "A mistake? What mistake?"

"I gave Su Mianmian the documents from Shenghe to translate, but she translated them terribly. Shenghe just called to complain and almost canceled their cooperation. I had to plead with them to back it up." "Oh?"

He Suyan glanced at the documents in Su Mianmian's hand, walked over, took them from her, and asked as she looked at them. "Did you translate this?" Su Mianmian shook her head. "No." "No?"

He Suyan looked away from the document, but before she could speak, Liu Shu scoffed, "Su Mianmian, making mistakes isn't scary, what's scary is refusing to admit it. This document was clearly translated by you working overtime last night, so why are you saying you didn't translate it now that there's a problem?"

"Working overtime?" He Suyan's gaze turned cold as she looked at Liu Shu. "Shenghe's stuff was sent over yesterday morning, why did you have to work overtime to finish it?" Liu Shu was taken aback, never expecting He Suyan to focus on this.

"Um, I was so busy I forgot, I only suddenly remembered it near the end of the workday." He Suyan raised her hand, making a gesture to stop her.

"Also, it was the intern's first translation, and you didn't check it carefully before handing it over to the other company. As her direct supervisor, don't you also bear some responsibility?"
