Chapter 76 - Delivering lunch to my uncle

At noon, Su Mianmian went upstairs to change her clothes.

This time, she slightly changed her style, wearing a black tank top and high-waisted jeans underneath, topped with a long gray knitted cardigan.

Both the colors and the style were less girlish than her last visit to the Gu Group, but still had a touch of relaxed Korean chic, preventing her from appearing too mature. Su Mianmian was quite satisfied with her outfit. She didn't feel uncomfortable carrying the insulated lunchbox into the Gu Group.

However, as soon as she reached the front desk, before she could even stand still, the receptionist recognized her immediately. "Ms. Gu, are you here to see your uncle again?" Su Mianmian almost choked. "Ms. Gu?"

The receptionist's eyes crinkled with a smile, and she said in a tone that implied she was very clever, "Yes, you're Mr. Gu's niece, so you must share his surname." Su Mianmian awkwardly tugged at her lips, completely at a loss for words.

Just then, the receptionist's gaze fell upon the insulated lunchbox she was carrying. "Oh, Miss Gu, you brought lunch for Mr. Gu too?" "Too?" Su Mianmian blinked. "Did anyone else bring him lunch?" The receptionist beckoned to Su Mianmian.

Su Mianmian leaned closer, still somewhat skeptical, and heard the receptionist whisper, "Miss Gu, I have some good news for you. You'll probably have a little aunt soon." A little aunt? Inside the elevator, Su Mianmian recalled the receptionist's words.

"It was the big star, Miss Xue Jing. When she called Mr. Gu, she kept calling him 'A-Zhou,' oh my, her tone was so sweet. Later, Mr. Gu came down to pick her up himself. Everyone who saw them together said they were a perfect match."

Su Mianmian smiled, thinking the receptionist must have been a screenwriter in her past life, with so many dramatic ideas. Last night at the bar, Sister Xue Jing had said she was coming to see Gu Yizhou to sign a contract today. She figured he was just here on business, not as dramatic as Xue Jing described.

Just as she thought this, the elevator doors opened, and Su Mianmian stepped out. It was lunchtime. Only Secretary Cai was working at her desk on the entire 66th floor. Seeing Su Mianmian, she gave a polite smile. "Mrs. Gu."

Su Mianmian smiled back. "Secretary Cai, good afternoon. I'm here to see Gu Yizhou. Is he in his office?" Secretary Cai nodded. "Yes, Mr. Gu specifically instructed that you go directly there after you arrive." "Okay."

Su Mianmian finished speaking, glanced at the lunchbox she was carrying, and smiled as she walked towards the president's office. The door was closed. Su Mianmian knocked twice, but there was no answer. She frowned. Gu Yizhou was too focused on his work. Su Mianmian simply pushed the door open.

"Gu Yizhou, I came to give you…" She stopped mid-sentence, noticing a woman beside the sofa wearing a black strapless top, revealing a large expanse of white shoulder, her back to the door, seemingly doing something.

Hearing the door open, the woman turned around. A flicker of panic crossed her beautiful, almond-shaped eyes when she saw Su Mianmian, and she quickly grabbed her coat from the sofa and put it on. "Mian, Mianmian, what brings you here?"

Su Mianmian's mind went blank for a moment, and it took her two seconds to recover. "I brought lunch to Gu Yizhou. Sister Xue Jing? What were you doing just now?"

"I, I…" Su Mianmian looked at the flustered Xue Jing, her face darkening. She glanced around the large office. "Where's Gu Yizhou? Isn't he in his office?" Xue Jing's expression became even more unnatural. "A-Zhou, A-Zhou, he… he went to the break room to take a shower."

"Take a shower?" Su Mianmian knew that Gu Yizhou's office had a break room with a bathroom. Last time she came, Gu Yizhou kissed her on the sofa, wrinkling his clothes, and went there to change.

Remembering this, Su Mianmian subconsciously glanced at the sofa, then at Xue Jing's slightly wrinkled coat. Her heart sank heavily.

Could it be that he and Xue Jing were on this sofa just now…? Thinking this, Su Mianmian got goosebumps all over, and her stomach churned. "Um, I suddenly remembered I have something to do, I'll go now."

With that, she quickly left before Xue Jing could react. …When Gu Yizhou came out of the lounge after changing his clothes, Xue Jing was setting out the lunch she had brought for him on the coffee table.

"I specially went to a newly opened restaurant on Xingyuan Road to get this for you. I've tried the food there, and it should suit your taste."

Gu Yizhou didn't even glance at it, going straight to his desk. "Thanks for the kindness, but no need, Mianmian will bring me lunch later."

Just as he finished speaking, Gu Yizhou noticed a pink insulated food container pushed into the corner, his narrow eyes narrowing slightly. "Has anyone been here?" Xue Jing's expression froze for only a second before she quickly realized what was happening.

"Oh, Mianmian came by earlier, but then suddenly said she had something to do and left." She came, and left without even being seen? Gu Yizhou had a bad feeling. He got up and walked towards the door while calling Su Mianmian.

...Su Mianmian walked very fast, her mind a jumbled mess, and she didn't even hear Secretary Cai speaking to her. Secretary Cai watched Su Mianmian's hurried figure suspiciously, pursing her lips. Strange, why did she come out again in less than five minutes?

Just as she sat down with a frown, a tall, imposing figure followed her out. Secretary Cai quickly stood up again, "Mr. Gu." Gu Yizhou's face was cold as he glanced at her, "Have you seen my wife?"

Secretary Cai nodded, pointing towards the elevator, "My wife just took the elevator down." Gu Yizhou frowned, "Did she say anything?" Secretary Cai shook her head, "She seemed quite happy when she came, but she left in a hurry, and her expression wasn't good."

Gu Yizhou hesitated for two seconds, then strode towards the elevator. Su Mianmian was using the CEO's private elevator, which had already descended to the twentieth floor. Gu Yizhou had already called Su Mianmian twice, but she hadn't answered.

He was a little anxious, pressing the buttons on both the employee elevator and the private elevator several times. At that moment, Su Mianmian stood in the elevator, staring blankly at her phone. For a moment, she had indeed been blinded by anger. Now, having calmed down a bit, she belatedly realized...

She wasn't the one who had done anything wrong, so why should she be the one running away? Su Mianmian looked at herself in the elevator mirror, her cheeks puffed out, her breathing unsteady. She had come so happily to bring Gu Yizhou lunch, never expecting to encounter such a humiliating scene.

She remembered her twentieth birthday, excitedly waiting for Tang Yunzheng to confess his feelings to her, only to hear him say he only saw her as a childhood sweetheart. Her feelings then were the same as now—a deep sense of betrayal and defeat.

She didn't know what kind of relationship Gu Yizhou and Xue Jing had—was it simply a thrill-seeking act, or was it mutual affection? But no matter what, she refused to be a fool being played!

She stared at the constantly flashing caller ID on her phone. Since Gu Yizhou wanted to explain, she should give him that chance. With that thought, Su Mianmian took a breath and angrily pressed the buttons for the 66th floor a few times. The elevator ascended again.

This time, she was determined to confront Gu Yizhou, so she projected a strong aura. However, the moment the elevator doors opened, she was met with Gu Yizhou's anxious eyes. He was still holding his phone, his brows furrowed.

When their eyes met, Gu Yizhou seemed to relax, but then, hearing the still-ringing phone in Su Mianmian's hand, his brows furrowed even more, and he yanked her out of the elevator. "Su Mianmian, why didn't you answer the phone?"
