I waited until the safehouse was empty before examining the crystal.
Oracle's gift had been humming in my pocket for months, a constant reminder that there was more to this reality than I'd understood. Now, with the council established and Hope's training progressing, I finally had time to investigate.
[CRYSTAL ANALYSIS]
[Origin: Outside established multiverse]
[Energy signature: Dimensional (unknown subtype)]
[Potential: Evolution catalyst]
[Risk: MODERATE]
[Recommendation: Activate only in controlled environment with support]
The safehouse was controlled. Davina was in the Quarter, Hayley with the pack, Klaus and his siblings occupied with council business. I was alone—which was either the best or worst condition for what came next.
I held the crystal in both hands and let my power flow into it.
The reaction was immediate.
Light exploded outward, filling the cabin with colors I'd never seen—colors that shouldn't exist in this reality. The walls shimmered, becoming transparent, revealing the Bayou outside and something beyond it. Something vast. Something watching.
[EVOLUTION ACCELERATED]
[Dimensional energy detected: 1000% of normal saturation]
[Stage 3 → Stage 4 evolution: INITIATED]
[Warning: This evolution was not predicted by System]
[Warning: Energy levels exceed safety margins]
[Recommendation: Abort]
[Recommendation overridden by user? Y/N]
I didn't hesitate. "Y."
The crystal shattered.
Power flooded through me—not the controlled, incremental growth I'd experienced before, but a torrent of energy that tore through every limit I'd built. My hybrid vessel screamed, cells rupturing and reforming, consciousness expanding beyond the boundaries of my physical form.
For a moment, I was everywhere.
I saw the multiverse—not just the thirteen thousand realities I'd traveled, but all of them, infinite branches spreading in every direction. I saw Oracle watching from somewhere beyond, her true form flickering between possibilities. I saw Hope's future, branching and converging, a thousand paths leading to a thousand outcomes.
And I saw myself.
Not the body I wore. Not the consciousness that had traveled for millennia. Something older. Something that had existed before the first reality was born, that would exist after the last one died.
Something that was waking up.
[EVOLUTION COMPLETE: Stage 4]
[Stage: DIMENSIONAL BEING (Partial)]
[Power assessment:]
— Physical: Equivalent to Original hybrid
— Dimensional: SIGNIFICANT (25% of original capacity)
— Reality manipulation: Limited
— Multiversal awareness: Active
— Threat level relative to Originals: SURPASSED
— Threat level relative to Klaus: EXCEEDED
[Warning: This evolution has attracted attention]
[Warning: Multiple entities are now aware of your presence]
[Warning: Some of them are not friendly]
I opened my eyes.
The cabin was gone. I stood in a void between realities, surrounded by light and shadow and things that had no names. And in front of me, waiting with an expression that might have been amusement, was Oracle.
"You woke up," she said.
"I didn't know I was asleep."
"No. You never do." She gestured, and a path appeared—a thread of light stretching into infinity. "You have a choice now. You can return to your reality. Continue your work. Raise the child. Guide the council. Live the life you've chosen."
"And the other choice?"
"You can fully awaken. Become what you were before the traveling began. Before the forgetting." Her eyes held mine. "You'll regain power you've only dreamed of. Knowledge that spans all existence. And you'll lose everything you've built here."
"Why?"
"Because the power you once held can't exist in a single reality. Not without destroying it." She stepped closer. "That's why you started traveling in the first place. To find a way to exist without consuming everything around you."
I looked at the path. At the light at the end of it. At the power I'd been chasing for thirteen thousand realities.
Then I looked back at the fading image of New Orleans—the city I'd come to love, the people I'd chosen to protect, the child who was waiting for me to teach her how to be something new.
"Can I have both?" I asked. "Can I keep what I've built and still become what I was?"
Oracle smiled—a genuine smile, warm and knowing.
"I was hoping you'd ask that."
She reached out and touched my forehead.
[STAGE 5: UNLOCKED]
[Requirement: Balance dimensional power with mortal connection]
[Progress: 0%]
[This is the final stage. There is no Stage 6.]
[Choose carefully, traveler. This choice defines everything that comes after.]
