Two fully uniformed police officers emerged from behind the bushes, the barrels of their short-barreled rifles locked firmly onto Haelyn's dust-covered body. They were the external patrol team whose schedule had just been changed that night without anyone inside the detention center knowing.
Haelyn froze. It felt as if all the blood in her body had stopped flowing.
"No… this can't be happening…" she wailed, her voice trembling violently with despair. "You don't understand! I have to go! I'm innocent!"
"Inmate number 402, Haelyn! Get back on the ground right now or we'll open fire!" barked one of the guards. He then stepped forward cautiously while keeping his weapon aimed at her.
