I turned, and I found my terror standing there just as he always appeared in my dreams.

My vision blurred further with tears as I looked at him. A little sense of relief washed over me, and I do not know why.

The smile on Father's face vanished.
Darkness crept into his expression, twisting it into something I could not recognise.
"Do not listen to him," he said, his voice no longer soft. "Hear me."
My breath caught.
"I am your father."
The words struck deep.
Too deep.
My chest tightened as my mind began to blur again, the pull returning stronger than before.
Yes… he is my Father. I should go to him.
"Come to me." he whispered.
My foot shifted forward without my permission.
My fingers trembled as my thoughts felt distant again.
