Chapter 108 - Chapter 108: For the Image of the United States

"So, based on the current situation, the Hellhound Squad is carrying out completely covert, or rather, shady activities."

Frank nodded at what Dina said.

"And the funding source for these operations is drug trafficking—Zubair was caught by you all because he traced it to this point."

Dina recorded her conjectures on paper.

Zubair was a local Police Officer, that poor victim; Dina had worked with him to investigate local drug trafficking.

Then there's Gana, who discovered the suspicious aspects of the whole affair and recorded what they did to Zubair.

"The ones responsible for guarding the morgue were Schoonover and Colonel Bennett—they must both be in the know."

"And then there is the person in charge of the operation, the Orange Agent."

Dina wrote the names of these three people on her notepad and circled them.

"So who is this Orange Agent? Who has the authority to pull elite soldiers from the Marine Corps to do this kind of work?"

Hearing this, Frank laughed: "I have to say, there are quite a few big shots with the authority to do this."

David interjected: "But based on your description, the intelligence you obtained is very important; this intelligence is enough to earn a CIA Agent various medals and commendations, and a meteoric rise in their career."

"I have been investigating this matter for over a year, and I have screened out some possible targets."

After speaking, he waved his hand toward the holographic image, though everyone was confused about what he meant.

"artificial intelligence? Didn't Osborn get my data?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the holographic image began to move, displaying David's data.

"Let's continue. I have narrowed down the targets as much as possible, but there are still 34 CIA Agents who need to be identified."

As the images flashed by one by one, Gana and Frank quickly recognized their direct superior.

It was the balding, one-eyed William Rollins.

Frank stood up on the spot, pointing at the man in the image, and said: "That's the guy!"

Everyone looked at each other; it seemed they had found their target.

David opened the target's information: "William Rollins, CIA field Agent, was awarded many medals for contributing a significant amount of high-value intelligence during the war, and was recently promoted to Deputy Director, which is the second-in-command of the CIA."

It was just that the target was a bit too high-ranking.

On the other side, Hurley was playing the situation in the conference room in her office, and there was another spectator beside her.

CIA Director Marion.

This Director was currently not very calm—she was the type who knew what was going on, but not entirely.

She believed that in order to protect the values and national image of the United States, the CIA must work in the shadows, and these missions must be kept hidden.

But she also felt that what Rollins was doing overseas had crossed the line.

Hurley felt that this Director's bottom line was quite flexible; she was the type of leader who kept herself spotless while her subordinates all had issues.

Regardless, even though it sounded unseemly, it was something that could be utilized by Osborn.

Now that Osborn had gathered all the evidence and witnesses, getting to the bottom of this was only a matter of time, so this Director would definitely actively resolve the matter.

So Marion said: "These are very serious allegations; they will have serious diplomatic repercussions and damage the image of the United States."

Hurley interrupted what Marion was about to say.

She was not here to talk about the image of the United States with her; she served Osborn, not the United States.

"You see, Director Marion, I also believe this matter will have a huge impact on the image of the United States, which is why I reported it to you at the first opportunity."

"I also hope this matter can be resolved through a relatively harmonious solution."

"So can we continue to discuss how to resolve this matter?"

Marion didn't speak.

She had said this to others countless times; for example, not long ago, a local official's son committed a crime, and they agreed to help protect the kid, but that local official had to work for them ever since.

She just didn't expect that a corporation would now hold leverage over them, but if this matter were to blow up, she, as Director, would find it hard to distance herself.

But on the other hand, it is well known that the CIA does not belong to any official agency of the United States; nominally, it only provides a basis for the President's decision-making.

The result of the United States election could already be foreseen; on the opinion polls, a name that did not belong to any party—Norman Osborn—was leading the pack.

Marion finally nodded.

"Very well, Officer, we also hope the United States can maintain a good national image." Hurley tapped the console, "Then I will now connect to the NSA Director, Mr. Raffi."

"Wait a minute, why do you still need to connect to someone from the NSA?"

Hurley, while preparing the next agenda item, said without lifting her head: "Carson Wolf, he is a senior Agent of the NSA, and Mr. Raffi also needs to know about this."

As for why she brought the two of them together—isn't that how forming cliques works?

After finishing the meeting at Osborn, Marion immediately found William Rollins.

"So what exactly have you been doing overseas? You sent an entire squad to clean up your mess, and now their bodies can't even be found? And those helicopters, they're all gone?"

Marion looked at William Rollins, she was very angry.

As mentioned earlier, this CIA Director did not like this.

William Rollins was in the wrong, and now this matter was about to burn him, so he was very anxious.

So he said to Marion emotionally:

"I had no choice! Otherwise, where do you think that intelligence came from? Was it sent over by the enemy?"

"For the security, image, and values of this country, so that others can sleep well at night, some people must do these shady things in the shadows to maintain this country!"

"You have worked at the CIA for 30 years; you know this principle better than I do! Director Marion!"

The more Rollins spoke, the more worked up he got, and he spoke until Marion fell silent.

"We still have a chance now; we can still silence them—Frank Castle, Gana Henderson, there aren't many people left!"

He was like a mad dog backed into a corner; he wanted to drag Marion down with him.

Unfortunately, however, Osborn had already colluded with her.

"Silence them? Frank Castle is at Osborn right now. Tell me, how are you going to kill an Osborn employee in New York?"

Rollins seemed to have already thought it through, and he said: "There is still one person left from the Hellhound Squad; he has a good relationship with Frank, and I can use him."

Not only that, Osborn has quite a few enemies. As a core security force for Osborn, many people are keeping an eye on Frank.

Even if they can't find an opportunity to take him out, a bodyguard's movements are invaluable and can be used for many things.

Marion glanced at Rollins: "Who is it? Why would he listen to you?"

"He took my money, he knows about the silencing, and he is on our side."

Marion pretended to think for a while, then nodded.

"Handle this matter well, make it seamless. And, after this matter is over—"

Halfway through her sentence, she wanted to say that after this matter was over, he should get out, but then she thought better of it; that sentence was completely superfluous.

After this matter was over, he would have to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Turning around and getting into the car, Marion didn't say another word.
