The Box: Fate
Chapter 45 — The Unbound Shadow
The heart of the Ancient Fortress was not made of stone, but of solid, pulsating starlight As Kataki, Hina, and the rest of the vanguard reached the central dais, they found it: a card floating within a pillar of crystalline energy, It wasn't made of paper or metal; it was a fragment of the universe itself, humming with a frequency that silenced the world,
[LEGENDARY RELIC DETECTED: THE ORIGIN SPARK — ZENITH]
Kataki stepped forward, The black veins on his neck were throbbing, the Architect' curse trying to choke the life out of him one last time, With a steady hand, he reached into the light! The moment his fingers brushed the card, the fortress groaned,
A wave of pure, white mana exploded outward
"Kataki!" Hina cried out, shielding her eyes,
The silver blindfold that had covered Kataki eyes for months suddenly disintegrated into ash, The heavy, dark pressure that had sat on his chest for hundreds of miles snapped like a rusted chain, For a moment, Kataki stood perfectly still in the blinding light,
Then, the shadows in the room began to move, They didn't crawl; they danced,
From the subspace of his inventory, two hilts flickered into existence, In a blur of motion that no eye could follow, Kataki gripped them, Two jagged, obsidian daggers—**The Twin Fangs of the Eclipse**—slid into his hands, He spun them with a terrifying, fluid grace, the blades humming with a hunger that had been suppressed for far too long,
He didn't need to look at his friends to know they were there, He didn't need to say a word, He simply stood there, his back straight, the twin knives reflecting the starlight of the Zenith card,
"The weight is gone" Kataki whispered, His voice was different—sharper, colder, yet filled with a renewed sense of purpose, He turned around, his eyes—sharp, piercing, and glowing with a faint silver hue—finally seeing the world without a filter,
Just then, Zanaki, Axel, and the others burst into the chamber, panting and covered in the dust of their battle, They stopped dead when they saw Kataki,
"Kataki... your eyes" Zanaki breathed, his jaw dropping,
"I can see the flow again" Kataki said, sheathing his twin daggers in one smooth motion "I can see the cracks in this reality"
Zanaki grinned, wiping sweat from his forehead, "Well, now that the blind guy can see, we're officially unstoppable, So, is it time to name the squad? I was thinking—"
"No" Kataki interrupted, his gaze shifting to the far wall of the chamber where a new doorway was slowly opening "Our squad will not be named by us, We haven't earned the right to define ourselves yet, This world is far older and darker than we realized, We will remain nameless until our enemies whisper a title for us in fear"
The group nodded, the "Akatsuki" jokes fading into a respectful silence, They could feel the shift in the air: The story was changing!
Kataki walked toward the new opening: Beyond it lay a spiraling staircase made of blue glass, leading deep into the "Under-Realm"—a place that didn't exist on any map:
"Azureus said there were survivors from the Trillion Anime Zone" Kataki said, his hand resting on the hilt of his left dagger, "But the Zenith card just showed me something else, There is a memory locked beneath this fort, A story of the first person who ever entered the Box... and why they never left"
A new notification flickered in the air, visible to everyone:
[WORLD QUEST UNLOCKED: THE CHRONICLES OF THE FIRST PLAYER]
[OBJECTIVE: REACH THE CORE OF THE UNDER-REALM]
The sixteen players looked at each other, They were no longer just running for a cure.. They were descending into the heart of the mystery, Kataki led the way, his twin knives ready to carve a path through the secrets of the past,
The descent had begun!
