The archive access at the Solarian Union's historical research facility produced a secondary source I had not previously reached: the personal correspondence of a practitioner in the early Chronologist Society who had direct contact with the entity in question in the thirty years following the mana event.
The correspondence describes a specific practice the entity maintained: they built what the correspondent called "observation cairns" at locations where the framework's incompleteness was most legible to their specific sensory architecture. I am cross-referencing our geological survey data against your Sextant coordinates now. There may be additional sites in our frontier territory.
He sent back: Add them to the information share. Every site we can identify narrows the response scope.
The cairn coordinates would need to be investigated, but not by him, not in the next eleven days. He sent them to Elena's restricted archive team for historical context and to the Borealis Dominion garrison intelligence office with the request that the sites be observed rather than approached until a proper investigation could be planned.
Isolde returned from the Aurelian academy on the ninth day before the ceremony.
She had been in the eastern capital for three weeks, managing the first cohort's establishment and the extraction sessions for the two students with channel anomalies. She came through the estate's door carrying the specific fatigue of someone who had been doing important work intensively and was ready to be home but was not ready to stop.

"Which adjustment produced the breakthrough," Chronos said.
"The frequency calibration on the disruption compound's active phase," she said. "The early-childhood exposure produces a different integration depth pattern than adult exposure. The standard formulation addresses adult-pattern integration. I adjusted the active phase to handle the deeper layers of an older exposure first rather than the standard surface-to-depth sequence."
"That would also affect the decay cycle timing," he said.
"Yes," she said. "I've recalibrated it. The documentation has the full revision."
She sat.
"Also," she said, to the room, "the first Vanguard Crucible session that Sloane ran produced twelve students who now understand what the entrance assessment's physical standards actually mean in practice, which is a good outcome, and one student who apparently challenged Sloane directly during the session, which is an interesting outcome."
"What happened," Rosanne said, from the doorway.
"Sloane gave the student ten extra minutes in the Crucible to demonstrate their point," Isolde said. "The student did not demonstrate their point. The student is now one of the most engaged members of the cohort according to Sloane's daily report."
"Of course they are," Rosanne said.
The ten days before the awakening ceremony had the specific quality of approaching something that had been years in development — not tense exactly, but present in the way that significant events were present in the days before they occurred.
Rosalind ran her final preparation sessions in the restricted Tier 1 zone with the precise focus she had been maintaining since the academy years. He observed twice and said almost nothing, because there was almost nothing to say. The foundation was what it was — sound, built correctly, ready for the next phase that the ceremony would initiate.
He did have one session, three days before.

But the process of the ceremony — the high-density ambient mana environment, the sustained external read — will intensify the void affinity's expression for approximately forty-eight hours after."
"I know," she said. "You documented this in the awakening preparation notes."
"I'm telling you in person," he said, "because the documentation describes the general case and your case is specific. The coordinate displacement technique — in the forty-eight hours after the awakening, it will operate at a range approximately forty percent greater than your current trained range. Don't treat that as your new baseline. Treat it as a temporary peak."
She looked at him.
"You're telling me not to overextend during the intensity period," she said.
"I'm telling you to read your own capabilities accurately during a period when the readings will be temporarily elevated," he said. "The baseline will settle. The forty-eight hour peak is information about the ceiling you'll eventually reach, not about where you are."
She made the note.
"Your parents will be at the ceremony," she said.
"Yes," he said.
"Your mother will be reading my affinity through the whole thing," she said.
"Probably," he said.
"I don't mind," she said. "I want her to see it correctly."
He looked at her.
"She will," he said.
The night before the ceremony, he sat in the Cedar Grove garden.
His mother came out after a while and sat beside him.
"Tomorrow," she said.
"Tomorrow," he confirmed.
"Her void affinity," Nyx said. "The coordinate displacement. The channel structure you built over six years." She was quiet for a moment. "I have been reading the documentation of someone else's work for the first time in a long time. Watching something develop correctly from the outside."
"It is correct," he said.
"Yes," she said. "It is."
They sat in the garden.
"After the ceremony," he said, "the Architect of Dissolution intelligence will need to be acted on. The cairn coordinates, the geological substrate sites, the Architect's likely location in Sector 3 or adjacent areas."
"I know," she said.
"You said you wanted to be part of that conversation," he said.
"I meant it," she said. "Whatever the conversation requires."
"Even if the conversation becomes something else," he said.
She held his gaze.
"We have been wrong before," she said. "About what the framework required and how it would develop. I hold the Architect in the same frame I hold Vorash — someone who reached a correct diagnosis and an incorrect response. That frame is appropriate until evidence requires me to revise it."
"And if the evidence requires revision," he said.
"Then I revise it," she said. "And we do what the evidence requires."
He sat with this.
"That's the right answer," he said.
"It's the only answer I have that I believe is true," she said.
The garden was quiet.
The awakenening ceremony was in the morning.
