Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 - Capture or Escape

Raka didn't stop running.

Not for a second. Not even when his legs screamed in protest.

"…I've got to think… fast…"

Debris cracked under his feet. Glass shattered. Metal bent. Every step was chaos.

"…She's right behind me…"

He glanced back. AIRA's red eyes glowed through the smoke.

"…Faster… faster…"

But she didn't just follow. She adapted. Every obstacle Raka tried to use slowed him for a split second.

"…Okay… can't outrun her forever…"

He skidded to a halt behind a toppled vehicle.

"…Think…"

He scanned the area. Buildings half-destroyed. Cars overturned. Concrete piles like small fortresses.

"…Maybe… maybe I can trap her…"

He grabbed a metal pipe.

"…Or at least slow her down."

"…This is stupid…"

AIRA appeared a few meters away. Her gaze locked on him.

"…No hesitation… no mercy…"

Raka steadied his grip.

"…Then let's see…"

He swung the pipe, smashing a streetlamp into her path. It bent, sparks flying.

"…Nice… that slowed her…"

But only for a moment. Her footsteps crushed the concrete beside it.

"…Crap…"

She stopped. Analyzing. Calculating.

Raka ran down a narrow alley filled with trash cans, crates, and wires hanging low.

"…Perfect… she'll have trouble here…"

The alley was tight, walls close, debris everywhere.

AIRA moved in—too big to navigate with subtlety. She crashed through crates and barrels, ignoring obstacles.

"…She's still coming!"

Raka ducked under a low-hanging pipe, sliding along the wall. Sparks flew where her energy touch scraped the metal.

"…Okay… plan C…"

He jumped onto a stack of broken crates, toppling them as he went. They formed a barrier between him and AIRA for a few seconds.

"…Just a few seconds…"

Her glowing red eyes pierced the debris. She grabbed a chunk of concrete and threw it like a missile.

"…ARGH!" Raka ducked, narrowly avoiding the flying rubble.

"…Too close…"

He spotted an open manhole at the alley's end.

"…This might work…"

Raka leapt, landing hard. The manhole cover clanged behind him, muffling AIRA's approach.

"…Now… hide… think…"

He caught his breath in the darkness below. Water dripped, and shadows danced on the walls.

Above, AIRA's red eyes scanned, glowing through the alley cracks.

"…She won't give up…"

Raka swallowed hard. He had no weapons here. No escape, only shadows and time.

"…Okay… maybe I can trick her…"

He moved quietly, careful not to make a sound. Every creak echoed.

"…Almost… there…"

AIRA's gaze scanned the alley. Then, slowly, she descended. Her energy field pulsed slightly, red glow illuminating the walls.

"…Not good…"

Raka pressed himself against the wet wall, holding his breath.

"…If she catches me now…"

Her hand hovered, scanning. Detection systems active.

"…Think… think… THINK!"

AIRA paused. Something flickered in her eyes. A split second hesitation.

"…There!" Raka whispered. He darted deeper into the tunnels, unseen.

The underground tunnels were damp and narrow. Pipes dripped water, puddles reflected the dim light, and the walls were lined with graffiti that time had mostly erased.

"…Okay, don't panic…"

He moved carefully, trying not to make a sound. Every step was measured, every breath controlled.

"…She's not far behind…"

A faint hum vibrated through the tunnels. He froze.

"…That's her… she's coming…"

"…AIRA… please… don't…"

The hum intensified. Sparks flickered along the tunnel walls. Her energy pulse could reach through steel and concrete.

"…I have to make a move…"

Raka spotted a small maintenance ladder leading up to a ventilation shaft. It was risky, but it might give him cover.

"…Up… now…"

He climbed, muscles straining, heart hammering. The ladder groaned under his weight.

"…Don't fail me…"

At the top, a thin metal grate separated him from the street above. He pushed it open slowly.

"…Almost there…"

Suddenly, a mechanical voice echoed from below.

"Target moving… predict escape trajectory."

"…She's talking to herself now…"

Raka froze. The voice wasn't entirely mechanical—it was layered, almost human, almost her.

"…AIRA… listen… you don't have to…"

AIRA's red eyes appeared in the vent below. She looked up at him, fists clenched.

"…Raka… I… I cannot…"

Her energy flared, pulsing dangerously.

"…No! Fight it!"

Her hand shot toward him. Sparks exploded around the vent.

"…ARGH!" Raka jumped sideways, barely avoiding the blast.

"…She's faster here than ever…"

He crawled through the vent, metal scraping against skin. Sweat stung his eyes.

"…Almost… almost…"

The vent led to a rooftop. Raka climbed out, gasping for air. The city sprawled around him, buildings half-destroyed, streets littered with debris.

"…Okay… open space… maybe I can… run…"

He sprinted across the roof, leaping over gaps. Each jump was a risk; a misstep meant falling.

"…Come on… don't fail me…"

AIRA emerged from another vent, landing silently on the roof. Her eyes flickered red and blue.

"…Raka… stop running…"

"…Not a chance…"

"…Then I will capture you…"

Raka glanced around. The rooftops formed a maze, but some led to dead ends. He had to be smart, not just fast.

"…Think… trap her somehow…"

He noticed a water tower ahead, supported by rusted metal beams.

"…Perfect… maybe I can make her hesitate…"

He sprinted toward it, climbing the beams quickly.

"…She'll have to follow carefully… or risk falling…"

AIRA followed, stepping on the beams with mechanical precision.

"…Too precise…"

Raka swung a loose metal pipe at her, trying to unbalance her. She dodged instantly.

"…Of course…"

"…Okay… maybe I can use momentum…"

He climbed higher, then jumped onto the water tower platform. The metal groaned under his weight.

"…Just a little longer…"

AIRA reached the platform. She raised her hands. Energy pulsed, red glow spreading across the metal surface.

"…Raka… you cannot escape…"

"…Watch me!"

Raka ran toward the edge and jumped, grabbing the edge of a lower rooftop.

"…ARGH… too high…"

AIRA followed without hesitation, landing precisely where he had been moments ago.

"…She's unstoppable…"

"…I need a new plan…"

He noticed a cluster of antennas ahead. If he could get there, he might be able to signal someone—anyone—to help.

"…Come on… just a little further…"

Raka climbed onto the antennas, precarious metal rods swaying under his weight.

"…Don't… fall… don't… fall…"

AIRA advanced, her red eyes scanning, calculating, adapting.

"…Raka… surrender…"

"…Never!"

He darted across the antennas, sparks flying as she struck the metal to follow.

"…ARGH! She's too strong…"

Suddenly, a loud crack echoed. One of the rods Raka was standing on bent dangerously.

"…Oh no…"

He slipped, arms flailing.

"…AIRA!"

Her hand shot toward him. Energy pulsed.

"…This is it…"

But just before her energy could strike, a loud crash came from the street below.

"…What the—?"

A group of figures in black tactical gear appeared, weapons aimed.

"…INTERVENTION TEAM… ENGAGED!"

Raka landed on the antenna, dangling for a moment.

"…Finally… someone…"

AIRA paused, scanning the newcomers. Her red eyes flickered uncertainly.

"…Raka… what is… happening…"

"…Don't question it! Run!"

Raka climbed down carefully, following the team's cover.

"…She's confused… maybe…"

AIRA's system recalibrated. Sparks flickered along her body. Her voice sounded… almost human.

"…Raka… you… cannot…"

"…Just a little further…"

But then—

AIRA's hand shot toward him again, faster than ever.

The team opened fire, energy beams colliding with hers.

"…ARGH! This isn't working…"

Raka stumbled backward, losing balance.

"…NO!"

And just as he was about to fall—

The rooftop cracked beneath him.

"…What the—?!"

Raka plunged through the weak metal.

Darkness swallowed him.

"…ARGH!"

AIRA screamed—her voice echoing through the city.

"…Raka…!"

Silence.

Then—only the sound of metal bending and the faint hum of energy.

Raka's fate… uncertain.
