Chapter 133: The Heart of a Kingdom

The rain returned three days later.Soft at first.

Then steady. It washed the dust from Solaryn's streets.Filled fountains.Darkened stone roads. The city seemed calmer beneath the rain.As though the world itself was taking a breath. The countdown continued.

Twenty-Seven Days Until Asterion's Arrival.

The number appeared everywhere now.On scholars' charts. On tavern walls. On notices posted by the Aegis.Every citizen knew.

Twenty-seven days.

Then history would change.A Day Without Prophecies. For once, Kael refused to spend the day chasing ancient mysteries. No archives. No hidden ruins. No ancient records.

No discussions about forgotten gods.He was tired. Not physically.Soul-tired.The kind of exhaustion that came from carrying too many answers and too many questions at the same time.So he did something unusual. He walked. The Lower Markets. The lower districts of Solaryn were nothing like the palace. They smelled of bread,of rain,of wood smoke.Life was crowded here.Messy.

Real.Children ran through puddles.

Merchants shouted over one another.Old women argued about vegetables as though the fate of kingdoms depended on it.Kael smiled. This was the kingdom. Not castles.

Not politics.People.The BlacksmithHe eventually found himself standing outside a blacksmith's workshop. The rhythmic ringing of hammer against steel echoed through the street. The blacksmith was enormous.Broad shoulders.Gray beard.Arms like tree trunks.

The man glanced up.Then froze.

"...You're him."Kael sighed.Apparently fame was unavoidable."Depends."The blacksmith laughed."The King's new knight." "The monster killer." "The star-blooded wanderer."

The titles were getting stranger.A Simple Conversation. The blacksmith returned to his work."You know what I think?"Kael immediately regretted asking. The blacksmith grinned."I think you're just a kid."Kael blinked."...What?"The man shrugged.

"People keep trying to make you into something."

A pause."A weapon." "Holy figure." "Hero."

The hammer struck steel."But every time I see you, you just look like a young man trying his best."The words lingered.Because they felt true. The Temple of Dawn, later that afternoon, Kael visited one of Solaryn's oldest temples.A temple dedicated to the ancient sun traditions that predated House Solvayne itself.Golden light filtered through colored glass. The air smelled faintly of incense.Quiet.Peaceful.

A place untouched by the chaos outside.

An elderly priest sat near one of the windows.

Watching the rain.Watching the world. Wisdom. The priest noticed Kael immediately.

Not because of fame.Because old people noticed everything."Heavy thoughts?"

Kael laughed."That obvious?"The priest smiled."Everyone carries something."

A pause."Some burdens are simply easier to see."Kael sat beside him.For a while, neither spoke. The silence felt comfortable. The kind shared between strangers who don't need to impress one another. The Question

Eventually, Kael asked:"What if people expect something from you that you don't know how to become?"The priest smiled.

"Then don't become it."Kael frowned."That's your advice?" "Yes."The old man looked genuinely confused."Why would you become someone else?"Kael opened his mouth.

Then closed it.Because somehow—The answer was embarrassingly simple. Elsewhere, while Kael wandered the city, the others were busy.Very busy.Because life continued.Bram-Bram had somehow convinced several members of the King's Guard to spar with him.

This had escalated into an unofficial tournament.Nobody remembered how.Not even Bram.Lira-Lira spent the day helping healers treat refugees arriving from remote regions.Ancient ruins had disrupted trade routes.Entire villages were relocating.

Someone needed help.Lira refused to stand aside.Lyra-Lyra disappeared into the archives again.Several librarians considered this a hostile takeover.Lyra considered it efficient research.Negotiations were ongoing. The King

Meanwhile, King Godfrey stood atop the palace observatory.Watching the Silver Star.

It was larger now.Large enough that even ordinary citizens could clearly see it.

The ancient city was coming. And the King found himself wondering a question nobody else had asked. What did a city dream about after ten thousand years?Evening

When night fell, Kael returned to the palace.

The city glowed with lanterns.Music drifted from taverns. The smell of cooking food filled the streets.Life.Simple life. And for the first time in months—He allowed himself to enjoy it.The Balcony.Later that night, Kael stood upon one of the palace balconies. The Silver Star hung above the horizon.Bright.

Beautiful.Closer than before. The bracelet around his wrist pulsed softly. Not a warning.

Not a summons.Almost...Contentment.

As though it approved of something. The child returns. That night, the dream returned.

The silver bridge. The endless stars. The approaching city and the child. This time, the child wasn't waiting. He was feeding birds.

Impossible silver birds made of starlight.

Kael stared.The child looked up."Oh."

A pause."You're early." "I thought this was my dream." "It is."

The child returned to feeding the birds. As though that explained everything. It explained absolutely nothing.A name. For the first time, Kael decided to ask differently."What should I call you?"The child paused. For a moment Something ancient appeared behind his eyes.Something impossibly old. Then it vanished. And he smiled."Auren."The name felt familiar.Dangerously familiar.Like a half-forgotten song."Auren."Kael repeated.

The child nodded. Then looked toward the approaching city. Its lights shimmered across the void.Beautiful.Waiting.Auren's smile slowly faded."Home is almost here."

Before Kael could ask what that meant

The dream ended.

Far above the world—Asterion continued its journey. The city moved silently among the stars.Ancient gardens bloomed beneath silver moons.Forgotten towers awakened.

And within the city's central sanctuary

A throne of crystal and starlight stood empty.

Above it floated a single symbol.

Eight stars.

Not seven.

Eight.

And for the first time in ten thousand years—

The throne recognized its heir.
