Chapter 130: The City Between Stars

The night had grown quiet.Too quiet.

Kael and Kade sat beneath the palace gardens, the stars shining above them.

Neither spoke for a long time.Because one sentence had changed everything.

The eighth star was never meant to awaken.

Kael finally broke the silence."What is it?"

Kade didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he looked up at the sky.At the countless stars. At something only he seemed able to see. Then he sighed.

"The problem with old stories..."A pause.

"...is that people only remember the parts they survive."Kael frowned. That didn't sound promising. Before the Seven

"The seven observatories were built at the end."Kade said."The final works of Astraeus."

"They were places of guidance."

"Places to help the future."A pause.

"But before the seven..."He looked at Kael.

"There was another."Silence.

"The first observatory." "The original."

"The one the others were modeled after."

Kael felt a chill."The eighth."Kade nodded.

The City Between Stars."It wasn't built on this world."Kael blinked.

"...Of course it wasn't."Kade laughed softly.

"I missed that sarcasm."Then his expression became serious again."The Eighth Star was a city."Not a tower.Not a temple.A city.

"Astraeus built it as a place where people could meet."

"A place beyond kingdoms." "Beyond races."

"Beyond worlds."The night suddenly felt much larger.A Dream Given Form

"It was called..."Kade paused.

As though remembering an old friend.

"Asterion." "The City Between Stars."

The name felt ancient.Beautiful.

Lonely.The Gathering Place

Images surfaced in Kade's memory.

Travelers from distant realms.

Scholars exchanging ideas.

Explorers sharing maps.Children running through streets lit by starlight.

Not a city of power.A city of wonder.

A place where curiosity itself had a home.

Kael smiled. It sounded exactly like something Astraeus would create.

Then Kade's expression darkened.

"And then the Threshold War happened."

The Sacrifice"The city became something else."Silence."It became a refuge."

Another pause."Then a prison."

Kael's smile faded."A prison?"

Kade nodded."Astraeus used the city to hold something."The words hung heavily in the air.

Something.

Not someone.Something.The Name Never Spoken."What did it hold?"Kael asked.

Kade's face became pale. For the first time since returning—The old man looked afraid.

Genuinely afraid."I don't know."Silence.

"Nobody does." "Not even Astraeus would speak its name."The night seemed colder.

The Last Lesson."When I trained under him..."Kade said quietly."He only spoke about it once."Kael listened.

"He said there are things in existence that shouldn't be destroyed."A pause.

"Because destruction is impossible."

Another pause."So they must be forgotten."

Silence."And he sounded terrified when he said it."The Bracelet Reacts. The Starbound Bracelet suddenly grew warm. Then hot.

Symbols illuminated across its surface.

The eight stars appeared.Seven glowed softly. The eighth—Burned like a tiny sun.

A beam of light shot upward into the night sky.

Straight toward the stars. Both Kael and Kade stood."What did you do?"Kade asked.

"I didn't do anything!"The beam vanished.

But it was too late.Something had happened.

Across the Palace.Inside the royal observatory, ancient instruments moved.

Scholars shouted.Charts shifted.

Constellations changed. One young astronomer ran from the tower.

Straight toward the palace. The King Awakens

King Godfrey sat upright in bed.A strange feeling in his chest.Like history itself had just turned a page.Moments later—A knock sounded at his door. Then another.Urgent.

The King already knew.Something had happened. The Sky Changes

All across Solaryn, people looked upward.

The stars had shifted.Only slightly. But enough.A new star shone among them.

One that hadn't been there before.

Bright.Silver.Beautiful and growing.

The Message, back in the gardens, the bracelet pulsed once more.

Words appeared in the air.Ancient.Aurelith.

Yet Kael somehow understood.

RETURN OF ASTERION CONFIRMED

Silence.Then another line.

ESTIMATED ARRIVAL: THIRTY DAYS

Kael blinked.Kade blinked. Both slowly looked up.At the new star. Then at each other.

"...Arrival?"Kael asked.Kade swallowed.

Because he already knew. The Eighth Star wasn't merely awake. It was moving.

Toward them.

The Council Gathers

Within the hour, the palace was in chaos.

The King's Guard assembled. The Aegis mobilized.Scholars filled the council chamber.Everyone talked at once.

No one understood.Until Kael and Kade arrived. The room fell silent.King Godfrey looked at them. Then at the glowing bracelet.

Then at the new star outside. And quietly asked:"What have you done?"Kael sighed."Honestly?"A pause."I think an ancient city is coming here."Nobody spoke.Because there was absolutely no appropriate response to that.

Far beyond the world—Far beyond the Threshold. The City Between Stars moved.

Ancient engines awakened.Silver rivers of light flowed through its streets.

Empty towers glowed and at its center—A throne of starlight remained vacant.Waiting.

For the first time in ten thousand years.

Asterion had a destination.

And the forgotten city was coming home.
