Chapter 126: Beneath the Same Stars

No one spoke. Not after the Caretaker's words.Heir of the Forgotten Path recognized.

The title echoed through the chamber.

Heavy.Ancient.Uncomfortable.

Kael looked down at the bracelet around his wrist.

The silver surface glowed softly, the seven-star symbol pulsing like a heartbeat.

The same bracelet. The one he had found at the beginning of everything.

The one that had followed him through every battle, every loss, every step of his journey.

And now it felt… different. Not because it had changed.Because he had.

Questions

"You're going to explain."

Kaelen's voice broke the silence.

It wasn't a request.Kael sighed.

"I wish I could."That wasn't the answer Kaelen wanted.Unfortunately—It was the only one Kael had.He looked at the others.

At Lyra.At Varyn.At Seris.At Elric.

They looked just as confused as he felt.

So he told them everything.

The stars.The vision.Astraeus.

The bloodline.The bracelet.Kade.No one interrupted.When he finished—Silence returned.A very long silence.

Finally—Varyn spoke.

"So… your ancestor is a forgotten god."

"...Apparently."

"And your mentor might be older than civilization."

"...Possibly."

"And the things beyond reality are looking for you."Kael rubbed his face.

"When you say it like that, it sounds bad."

"It sounds catastrophic."

That was fair.Lyra's Perspective

Lyra stepped closer. She looked at the bracelet. Then at Kael.

"You don't seem different."Kael blinked.

"I don't know if that's a good thing."

"It is."She said softly.A pause.

"The Eshkarai believed blood determined everything."She looked toward the Preservation Vault.Toward the sleeping dead.

"They were wrong."Her gaze returned to him.

"You're still Kael."Simple words.

Yet somehow—They eased something inside him.The Caretaker Explains

"The Forgotten God was known to the Aurelith."Everyone turned toward the Caretaker. Its silver form stood motionless."Designation: Astraeus."

"Status: Ally."

"Designation: Wanderer."

"Status: Friend."The last word made the room quiet.Friend.

The Forgotten God had been a friend of the First Civilization.Somehow that felt right.

Kael couldn't imagine Astraeus ruling kingdoms or commanding armies.

He could, however, imagine him wandering ancient cities and talking to anyone willing to share a meal. The Bracelet Awakens

The Starbound Bracelet suddenly grew warm.Symbols appeared along its surface.

One by one.Seven stars.

Then—A line of light extended outward.

A map.A floating constellation appeared above Kael's wrist.

Everyone stared.The constellation shifted.

Rotated. Then settled. One of the stars glowed brighter than the others.

The Caretaker stepped forward.

"Location identified."

"Where?"Kaelen asked.

The construct was silent for several moments. Then:"The Observatory of the Last Star."The ObservatoryEven the name sounded ancient.Sacred.Lost.

Lyra frowned."I've never heard of it."

"It predates recorded history."Of course it did.Everything important apparently did.

A Message from the PastThe bracelet pulsed again. This time—A voice emerged.

Faint.Warm.Astraeus.

"If you're seeing this, then you've found the first key."Everyone froze.

The message continued.

"I left seven observatories across the world."

The stars in the projection brightened.

"Places of knowledge."

"Places of memory."

"Places to guide those who walk forgotten roads."A pause.

"And because I know myself…"

The voice seemed amused.

"I probably forgot to explain any of this properly."

Kael couldn't help but smile.

That sounded exactly like him.

Which was a strange thought.

The Seven Observatories

The projection shifted.

Seven stars appeared.

Each representing an observatory.

Most were dark.One glowed.

The northernmost. The Observatory of the Last Star. The closest.Waiting.

A New Purpose. The room grew quiet again. Not with fear. With anticipation.

The expedition had come searching for answers. And now—The path ahead was becoming clear.Ancient cities.

Forgotten observatories.

Lost civilizations.The weakening Threshold.

The world was opening before them.

And for the first time—The road ahead wasn't leading toward war.It was leading toward discovery.Night in the Ancient City

Later, after the others had gone to rest, Kael sat alone atop one of the silent towers.

The artificial sky of the Aurelith city shimmered softly above him.He looked at the bracelet. Then at the stars.

For a while—He simply sat there.Thinking.

The city below remained silent.

The kind of silence that invited reflection.

Eventually—Footsteps approached.

Lyra.

She sat beside him.Neither spoke immediately. The silence wasn't awkward.

Just… comfortable.Two Survivors

"We're both relics now."Lyra said suddenly.

Kael looked at her.She smiled faintly.

"The last Eshkarai."A pause.

"The descendant of a forgotten god."

"When you say it like that, it sounds ridiculous."

"It is ridiculous."They both laughed.

A quiet laugh beneath an artificial sky.

Then silence returned. After a while, Lyra spoke again."Are you afraid?"

Kael thought about it.Longer than expected.

"Yes."A pause.

"But I think that's okay."Lyra looked at him.He smiled."I'm still figuring out who I am."

He looked at the bracelet."I don't think finding out where I came from changes that."

For some reason—That made her smile.

A genuine smile.One without sadness.

One without centuries of loneliness.

Far to the north—Beyond mountains and forgotten forests. A lone tower stood beneath the stars. Its white stone shimmered in the moonlight. The Observatory of the Last Star.

For ten thousand years it had remained silent.Waiting.Watching.

Then—For the first time in ages

A single light appeared within its highest chamber. One candle. One star.

And a voice echoed through the empty halls.

"The Wanderer's child is coming."

The observatory awakened.

And the road ahead called once more.
