No matter how many times Aire told them she did not belong here, they refused to listen.
"I said let me go."
No one answered.
The glowing roots around her ankles disappeared the moment the older woman lifted one elegant hand. Yet, before Aire could take even a single step backwards, dozens of Light Fae emerged silently from the surrounding forest.
Each carried a silver spear carved from wood that shimmered beneath the strange sunlight. Their armor looked as though it had been woven from moonlight itself.
They did not point their weapons at her. They simply surrounded her, as though they feared someone else might take her away.
Or as though she might disappear if they looked away for too long.
"I am not your prisoner," Aire said through clenched teeth.
The older woman finally looked at her properly. "You're mistaken." Her voice was impossibly gentle. "You are our future."
"I am neither."
