Chapter 37 - A Breath of Relief

Leo sat on his bed, his thoughts tangled once again.

"…This is getting too complicated," he muttered.

He ran a hand through his hair and leaned back slightly.

Werren came here for the company…

But what if he finds out the truth?

Leo's expression tightened.

Werren was not like him.

If Leo was confused—

Werren was certain.

Certain about what was right and what was wrong.

And when it came to Seth…

There was no forgiveness.

Werren hates him… Leo thought. And honestly… so do I.

But for Werren—

It wasn't just anger.

It was something deeper.

Something that couldn't be forgiven.

Leo exhaled slowly.

"I just hope… everything stays normal," he whispered.

Eventually, exhaustion took over.

And he fell asleep.

The next morning—

Leo woke up early.

He got ready and stepped out of his room, heading toward the dining area.

I need to talk to Werren…

As he walked in—

He saw Mr. Miles already sitting at the table, having breakfast.

Leo paused for a second.

Then quietly walked over and sat down.

His eyes moved around, searching.

Where is Werren…?

Just then—

Footsteps approached.

Leo looked up.

Werren walked in.

For a brief moment, Leo felt a slight tension in his chest.

Still—

He forced a normal tone.

"Hey… Werren. Good morning."

Werren nodded.

"Yeah… good morning."

Then he turned toward Mr. Miles.

"Good morning, Dad."

Mr. Miles looked up.

"Good morning, Werren."

There was a short silence.

Then—

Mr. Miles spoke.

"Oh yes, Werren… you wanted to ask me something about the company?"

Leo's fingers tightened slightly under the table.

This is it…

His heart began to beat faster.

Werren nodded calmly.

"Yes, Dad. It's about some important company files," he said. "You kept them with you, and I urgently need them. That's why I came here."

Leo blinked.

Files…?

Relief slowly began to replace his tension.

"So… that's it…" Leo thought.

Mr. Miles nodded.

"I see," he said. "Come to my room. I'll give them to you."

"Alright," Werren replied.

They both stood up and walked toward Mr. Miles' room.

Leo stayed at the table for a moment.

Then he let out a deep breath.

"…So it was just about files," he whispered.

He leaned back slightly, finally relaxing.

"I was overthinking everything…"

For the first time in a while—

He felt like he could breathe properly.

Inside Mr. Miles' room—

Mr. Miles opened his drawer and took out a set of files and documents.

"These are the ones you need," he said, handing them over.

Werren took them carefully.

"Thank you, Dad."

He paused for a moment.

Then looked at Mr. Miles.

"There's something else I wanted to say," Werren added.

Mr. Miles looked at him.

"Yes?"

Werren's expression softened slightly.

"Don't overwork yourself," he said. "You've been pushing yourself too much. At least take some rest sometimes."

For a moment—

Mr. Miles didn't respond.

Then a faint, tired smile appeared on his face.

"I'll keep that in mind," he said.

Werren nodded and walked out of the room.

Leo was already waiting outside.

"You got what you needed?" Leo asked.

Werren gave a small smile.

"Yeah. I have them now."

Leo nodded.

"That's good."

For a brief moment, things felt normal again.

Simple.

Then—

They both looked toward the front of the house.

Mr. Miles was walking out.

He got into his car.

Without looking back—

He drove away.

Werren watched silently.

His expression unreadable.

Leo glanced at him.

For a second—

He felt like Werren was thinking about something deeper.

Something he wasn't saying.

Leo looked away.

Even though everything seemed fine—

Something still felt off.

Like this calm…

Was only temporary.

Because deep down—

Leo knew—

The real problem hadn't been solved.

It was just…

Waiting.
