Chapter 28 - Doubts and Decisions

Leo sat at the dining table, staring blankly ahead.

His breakfast was placed in front of him, warm and perfectly arranged—but he didn't touch it.

Instead, his eyes slowly shifted toward the empty chair across the table.

Mr. Miles' seat.

A strange silence filled the room.

Leo frowned slightly and turned to one of the servants standing nearby.

"Where is father?" Leo asked. "Isn't he coming for breakfast?"

The servant bowed his head respectfully.

"Sir Leo, Mr. Miles left early this morning to meet someone."

Leo's expression tightened.

"So early?" he said. "He went out without even having breakfast?"

"Yes, sir," the servant replied. "He left in a hurry."

Leo leaned back slightly in his chair.

I see…

His thoughts darkened.

It must be Seth.

A hint of anger flashed across his face.

"Did he say when he'll be back?" Leo asked again.

The servant nodded.

"Yes, sir. He mentioned that he will return very late."

Leo looked away, his jaw tightening.

"I can't believe this…" he muttered under his breath.

His mind was already racing.

What is really going on? Why is he meeting them again and again?

Before he could think further, his phone suddenly rang.

Leo picked it up and looked at the screen.

"…Werren."

For a moment, he hesitated.

What should I do?

After what I know… what am I supposed to tell him?

If Werren finds out that father is working with Seth… it's going to be really bad.

Leo took a deep breath.

Still, he answered the call.

"Hello, Werren," Leo said, trying to sound normal. "How are you? How's everything going there with Mr. Fred?"

On the other side, Werren's voice sounded steady.

"Yeah, everything's going well here," Werren replied. "What about there? And where's father? What is he doing now after what Seth did to us? Did he say anything about it?"

Leo went silent.

His grip on the phone tightened slightly.

Should I tell him?

Or not…?

His thoughts clashed inside his mind.

No… I shouldn't tell him yet, Leo decided. I need to understand everything first.

On the other side, Werren called out again.

"Hey, Leo? Hello? Are you still there? Why aren't you answering?"

Leo snapped back to reality.

"Oh—yeah, I'm here," he said quickly. "Sorry… I was just thinking about something."

"What were you thinking about?" Werren asked.

Leo hesitated for a second.

"Ah… nothing important," he replied.

"I see…" Werren said. "By the way, did dad tell you when he's coming back here?"

Leo looked down at the table.

"Yeah… he said he'll think about it," Leo answered carefully. "But I'm not sure when. He didn't tell me everything."

Werren sighed lightly.

"Oh, okay. I haven't talked to him much these days… after everything that happened," he said. "I was just curious."

There was a brief pause.

"Anyway, I have to go now," Werren continued. "Talk to you later, Leo. Take care."

"You too," Leo replied softly.

The call ended.

Silence filled the room again.

Leo slowly placed his phone on the table.

His untouched breakfast sat in front of him, now cold.

He stared at it for a moment… then looked away.

"What should I do now…" Leo whispered.

The weight of everything pressed heavily on him.

His father was hiding something.

Seth clearly knew more than he was saying.

And Werren—

Werren was completely unaware of the truth.

Leo leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table, deep in thought.

I can't just sit here and do nothing…

His eyes slowly hardened with determination.

If father won't tell me the truth…

Then I'll find it myself.
