Chapter 29 - Chapter 28: Body Expansion, Exceeding the Limit

Yuuto blinked, certain he hadn't seen wrong.

With every few bites of feed, Pidgeotto's body seemed to swell under an invisible force. Its bones stretched, muscles bulged, and feathers grew denser and more lustrous by the second.

Its already majestic frame was expanding at a breathtaking pace.

Shoulders broadened.

Wings widened.

Legs and talons thickened with raw power.

"This…"

Yuuto already knew the super flight berry was potent, but he hadn't expected the effects to hit *this* fast.

Subtle cracking sounds—like bones lengthening—rose from the Pokémon. Pidgeotto paused mid-bite, tilting its head down to stare in confusion at its suddenly larger chest and wings.

Then it shrugged the odd sensation aside.

The warm, surging power flooding its body felt far too good—more satisfying than any battle victory.

It chirped happily and attacked the feed with even greater enthusiasm.

As it ate, the growth accelerated.

Yuuto's initial surprise quickly turned to outright astonishment.

In just minutes, the Pidgeotto before him shattered every normal limit, swelling wildly.

It had already surpassed the size of any ordinary Pidgeotto.

It was closing in on—no, it had already passed—the dimensions of its evolved form, Pidgeot.

"Stop… it can't be stopped?"

Yuuto watched the incredible transformation in awe.

Finally, Pidgeotto pecked up the last scrap of feed, lifted its head in pure contentment, and let out a long, resonant, powerful cry. Its body settled into its new size.

Yuuto stared at his enormous bird, speechless.

*This… this is way too big, isn't it?*

The Pidgeotto now stood nearly two meters tall. With wings fully spread, its wingspan stretched four or five meters, easily casting a shadow that could swallow Yuuto whole.

Its yellowish-brown feathers had deepened into a richer, brighter sheen, especially across the shoulders, back, and wingtips, where they gleamed with a metallic, almost armored hardness.

Its head was held high, eyes sharp as lightning, radiating an innate commanding presence.

Its talons gripped the ground like steel vices, thick and powerful enough to crush stone.

This size… this aura… how was this still a Pidgeotto?

It looked more like a Pidgeot—and a bigger, more imposing one than most.

"The super flight berry… its effect is *that* strong?"

"The description never mentioned anything like this. I'll have to test its actual strength later."

Yuuto circled the enlarged Pidgeotto twice, growing more impressed with every step.

The sheer scale and cool factor were off the charts.

An absurd thought even crossed his mind:

*By the way… what would happen if a human ate one of these berries? Would they get bigger and stronger too?*

He glanced down at himself.

With his Dragon's Body, he probably didn't need it anyway.

"Never mind. I'll save the rest for Butterfree."

He was still thinking about it when—

"Ah! Yuuto! Why is your bird so big now!!"

A clear, startled voice rang out from the edge of the clearing.

It was Misty, back from berry-picking. She had frozen at the sight of the giant Pidgeotto, the orange berry in her hand nearly slipping from her fingers.

Her loud cry immediately drew Delia's attention. She had been carefully arranging sleeping bags and mats inside the tent.

"Hmm?"

Delia paused.

*Big bird…? Become… so big?*

Her mind took a sharp, very specific detour in less than a second.

Her cheeks flushed crimson.

Her body tensed instinctively.

*Yuuto and Misty… when did they… when did they get that far?*

*We've been together almost every moment. The only times they could have been alone were during night watches or when someone went off to wash… Was it then?*

*But even if their relationship jumped ahead, they shouldn't… they shouldn't do it right out here in the open! How embarrassing!*

*Oh my…*

*Yuuto usually seems so steady, yet he's actually this… this impatient?*

A chaotic mix of shyness, anxiety, and an unnamed thrill swirled inside her.

She bit her lower lip, curiosity winning out. Quietly, she crept to the tent flap and peeked through the gap, holding her breath.

The first thing she saw was Misty's face, wide-eyed with shock.

Then her gaze shifted past Misty… and landed on the proudly standing, absurdly large, and majestic Pidgeotto.

Delia froze.

Blinked.

Blinked again.

*Oh.*

*It's Pidgeotto.*

So Misty had been talking about Yuuto's *Pidgeotto* getting bigger. Delia let out a long, silent breath of relief. The tension drained from her body and a faint, embarrassed smile touched her lips.

But the very next second her eyes flew wide open—wider than Misty's had been.

*Wait!*

*A Pidgeotto this big?!*

*That's impossible!*

*Is that even a Pidgeotto anymore? That's a Pidgeot, right? No—Pidgeot isn't even supposed to be that huge!*

"Yuuto!!"

Modesty forgotten, Delia flung the tent flap open and dashed out like a startled rabbit. She skidded to a stop beside Yuuto, Misty on one side and her on the other, both girls craning their necks to stare at the giant bird.

Their mouths hung open wide enough to fit a Poké Ball.

"J-Jiang—Yuuto…" Misty stammered first, still reeling. "Your bird… how did it suddenly get so big? Is this… a move? Or some kind of mutation?"

She had Gym Trainer experience, so her mind immediately jumped to possible explanations.

Delia clutched Yuuto's arm tightly, her beautiful eyes full of disbelief. "Yeah! It wasn't like this when it came out earlier! In just a few minutes… this is too amazing!"

"Perhaps…"

Yuuto chose his words carefully, his tone calm and steady.

"This Pidgeotto is a rather special individual. When I caught it, I already noticed it was smarter than average and had a slightly sturdier build. Now it looks like…"

He gazed up at the majestic bird with open admiration.

"I got lucky. I might have caught a rare 'Giant-type' or 'Special development' specimen. After the battle and all that high-quality feed, it probably hit the right conditions for a growth breakthrough—triggering some kind of latent gigantism trait."

He spoke half-truths, but his explanation sounded completely natural. In the Pokémon world, such phenomena—shiny Pokémon, unusually large or small individuals, hidden talents—were well-known mysteries even scholars couldn't fully explain.

Misty murmured the words back to herself, eyes still sweeping over the giant Pidgeotto. "Rare individual… growth breakthrough…"

It sounded unbelievable, yet… it was the only explanation that made any sense. Otherwise, how could a Pidgeotto turn into a "Pidgeot Plus" in minutes?

"So that's how it is…" Delia nodded, awe and curiosity shining in her eyes. "Yuuto is so lucky! To find such a special Pidgeotto!"

She accepted the story without question. After all, Yuuto was amazing—why wouldn't the Pokémon he caught be special too?

"However…" Misty walked another half-circle around the bird, unable to resist reaching out and gently touching the base of its wing. The feathers were tough, smooth, and humming with power. "Even for a special individual… it's *still* too big!"

She looked up at Yuuto. "Now that it's this huge, will it be inconvenient? Will flying or battling be affected?"

Yuuto had been pondering the same thing.

"We'll find out by testing it."

"Pidgeotto, how do you feel? Move around a bit."

The giant bird had been waiting for permission. It let out a thunderous cry and unfurled its massive wings.

A powerful gust blasted outward, flattening the grass and whipping Misty's and Delia's hair and skirts into the air. Both girls instinctively raised their hands to shield themselves.

The next instant, Pidgeotto's enormous body launched skyward with impossible lightness and speed.

It rocketed upward until it was a black speck against the clouds.

Then it dove.

It circled.

It executed razor-sharp turns.

It activated Agility.

It even practiced the wind-up for Wing Attack.

Every movement was fluid, packed with power, and noticeably faster than before. The extra size didn't make it clumsy at all. If anything, the increased strength and wingspan made its flight steadier and its bursts of speed even more explosive.

"So… so amazing!" Misty whispered, heart racing. She specialized in Water-types, but she couldn't help admiring—and envying—such a powerful Flying-type.

Yuuto watched closely and reached his conclusion.

The super flight berry didn't just enlarge the body. Even without evolving, this Pidgeotto already outclassed most ordinary Pidgeot in overall strength.

"Come back, Pidgeotto!"

Satisfied with the test, Yuuto recalled the proud bird. The huge form dissolved into red light and returned to its Poké Ball.

The clearing suddenly felt much emptier.

Delia and Misty, however, were still buzzing with excitement. They crowded around Yuuto, talking over each other.

"That was incredible! Yuuto, your Pidgeotto is definitely a trump card now!"

"Just its size alone will intimidate opponents in battles!"

"I wonder how big it'll get when it evolves into Pidgeot? Even bigger?"

"Its appetite must have skyrocketed too—we'll need way more feed…"

Yuuto listened with a small smile, answering occasionally but never over-explaining.

It was better to let them get used to these kinds of surprises gradually.

After all… this was only the beginning.

The super flight berry was just the first step.

Far bigger surprises were coming.

A little psychological preparation now would save them from being shocked every single time.

He pocketed the Poké Ball and turned back to the Pikachu waiting patiently beside him, ready to continue feeding.
