Chapter 13 - 13. Operation Kijang

Kaelino opened his eyes, staring at the ceiling less than a meter from his face. He turned his head; all the members of Team Piranha were fast asleep. He reached for his phone. The battery was full. The screen showed four in the morning. The air was cool and still, the city was truly asleep.

He climbed down from his bunk. Below him, Omar slept on his side, facing the wall, snoring softly. Across the room, Regi was almost falling off the top bunk, one leg already dangling over the edge. Beneath him, Thomas slept quietly.

He looked to the other side, to the bed where Kevin and Adam slept. But... Adam wasn't there. Only Kevin, sleeping on his stomach. Kaelino knew Adam had already woken up earlier to check the CCTV.

When he went upstairs, he saw the door to the room wasn't fully closed. He pushed it open and found Adam analyzing CCTV footage.

Adam glanced sideways, spotting Kaelino in the doorway. "Sorry if I woke you," he said, his eyes quickly returning to the monitor.

Kaelino sat beside him, noticing several sheets of paper on the table, a floor plan. His eyebrows rose in disbelief. "You mapped the building from CCTV?" he asked, picking up one of the sketches.

"Yeah, 32 active CCTV cameras. And... 6 that are dead," Adam said.

"By the way, where's the meeting room?" Kaelino asked.

Adam moved the cursor to one of the screens and clicked. "Fourth floor, right in front of the elevator."

Kaelino nodded. "And Satrio's office?"

"I'm not sure. None of the rooms match as his office. But I have a theory... it's on the eighth floor. I've been monitoring, and there's one room without any CCTV." Adam pointed to several screens on the eighth floor, then highlighted the room he suspected was Satrio's office.

"This guy really is shy," Kaelino teased, smiling slightly. "Want some coffee?"

"Sure. With a little sugar."

Kaelino went down to the ground floor. The lights were dim, and all the windows and doors were covered by rolling shutters. He turned on the coffee machine, made black coffee with a little sugar for Adam, then returned and handed it to him. Then he went down to the second floor and entered the main bedroom of the Piranha team, finding Omar already sitting on his bed. His tired eyes paused on Kaelino for a moment, then he looked down.

Kaelino opened his locker, put on his running jacket and shoes. Before leaving, he glanced back. Omar was still in the same position, while the others were fast asleep.

Finally, he went downstairs and left the shop. He started with a small, rhythmic jog, then quickened his pace along the sidewalk until he reached the city square, where he first met Sophia.

A few hours later, at exactly six in the morning, vehicles began to fill the streets. Some intersections were already clogged with traffic. Kaelino finally returned to B'Bread just minutes before opening. He was covered in sweat and tired, but he still had to work.

When he opened the door, Captain Lubis and Adam were already sitting at a customer table, discussing the floor plan Adam had made overnight. There was no time to join them, he had to freshen up before the first customer arrived.

Twenty minutes later, Kaelino was behind the coffee machine, wiping glasses and coffee stains off the counter. Captain Lubis approached him, carrying the floor plan Adam had drawn.

"What do you think?" he said, showing it to him.

"I saw it earlier, but Adam said only 32 out of 38 CCTV cameras are active. Maybe he hasn't finished mapping it yet," Kaelino said.

Captain Lubis studied it again. "Adam said the same thing, but this floor plan is enough for us to work with." Before he left, he narrowed his eyes. "Kaelino Kaspia."

Kaelino looked at him, puzzled. "Yes, Captain?"

"That's not your real name, is it?" Captain Lubis asked, smiling knowingly. Kaelino couldn't answer, which only made Captain Lubis smile wider as he patted his shoulder. "I knew, son. Even before you told me." He walked away, heading to his upstairs room.

Kaelino shook his head. Maybe only Captain Lubis knew his real identity here. Not surprising, given his decades of experience in the intelligence world, so much so that he had come out of retirement to fight the mafia still roaming free.

A few days passed. Adam was sitting in front of the monitor, enjoying a plate of fried noodles, when he was startled by a row of black cars parking in front of the lobby of Satrio's building. His eyes widened, his mouth hung open in shock. He quickly set down his plate of noodles and tracked the group that had just stepped out of the cars.

They were all dressed in black suits. In the middle, two men walked together, deep in conversation as they entered the building. Adam switched the surveillance to the lobby CCTV. He squinted, trying to figure out who they were, but the camera wasn't clear due to the sunlight reflecting off the building's exterior.

The group entered the elevator. Adam checked the CCTV cameras one by one. Finally, he found them on the fourth floor, entering the meeting room. He switched cameras again. Now one of them was clearly visible, Satrio and his mysterious guest. They began discussing something. One of the men brought out a document. Feeling this was important, Adam pressed the buzzer under his desk.

It didn't take long for Captain Lubis to arrive. "Adam, is there a problem?"

Adam spun his chair around. "Captain, you need to see this."

Captain Lubis stared at the monitor, his eyes focused. "Satrio," he said, seeing him sitting at the end of the meeting table with a mysterious figure whose back was to the camera.

But Captain Lubis seemed familiar with that figure. He took the photo from the mall CCTV, showing Satrio and two other mysterious men. One of them looked familiar, from the shape of the back of his head.

"Adam! Start recording!" he ordered.

"Yes, sir!" Adam immediately started recording the entire meeting without asking why.

A few minutes later, the mysterious man slid a document across the table to Satrio. When Satrio read it, his expression turned confused. He even stood up from his chair, showing his displeasure.

"What's wrong with him, Captain?"

Captain Lubis clenched his fist. "Stay calm. Maybe they just disagree on something."

After the tense moment passed, Satrio signed the document, and they shook hands. The man left with his entourage, leaving Satrio looking frustrated in the meeting room with the document he had just signed.

Adam switched the CCTV feed to follow the mysterious man, but Captain Lubis said, "Adam, go back to the meeting room."

Without protest, Adam switched back. Satrio was still there. A moment later, a woman came in and took the document. She carried it into the elevator. Adam tracked her, finally finding her on the eighth floor. She entered a room with no CCTV access. Two minutes later, she came back out and returned to the ground floor.

"Show me the lobby, now!" Captain Lubis ordered.

Adam switched to the lobby feed. The mysterious man walked with his entourage toward the exit. Their faces weren't visible. He switched to the outdoor camera pointing at the entrance. Unfortunately, the man was blocked by his men. Even when the first car drove away, the man's face was never visible.

Captain Lubis slammed his fist on the table, frustrated. "Damn it! I think his guards are deliberately hiding his identity!"

Adam, half-shocked, tried to stay calm. "Maybe he already knows where the CCTV cameras are in this building, Captain." He swallowed hard, switching back to the eighth floor. "At least he left behind the document that Satrio signed, right?"

"Yes, that's true. And that's our next lead," Captain Lubis said, still irritated. "Maybe it's time to launch Operation Kijang Dua."

"Kijang Dua?" Adam furrowed his brow, confused. "What does that mean, Captain?"

Captain Lubis smiled slightly, crossing his arms over his chest. "We're going to infiltrate and take that document. Whatever it takes, we have to get it!"

Adam nodded. Now the real mission had begun. He pressed the buzzer under the table again. Instantly, all his teammates gathered in the room. Even Regi, who was about to make a delivery, was there.

Captain Lubis looked at them one by one. "It's time to activate the Kijang protocol," he said. Everyone nodded in unison.
