Chapter 88
Kael
Kael didn't hesitate when the pull sharpened, and instead of pulling away, he leaned into it, forcing his awareness deeper into something that no longer felt distant. His breath caught as his body tensed, his chest tightening sharply as the storm inside him reacted before he could steady it.
Mira moved behind him, her voice sharper now as she stepped closer. "Kael, stop," she said, but he was already past the point of stopping, and the air in front of him tightened as if reacting to the decision he had already made.
Kael's breathing grew uneven as he forced the storm to respond, not by pushing outward, but by drawing it inward until it sharpened into something more controlled. The pressure gathered under his skin, heavy along his arms and chest, and for the first time, it didn't feel like something slipping away from him.
It felt like something he was holding.
