Chapter 169 - Chapter 168 Spring of Dragons*

Dragonzel didn't know what Viserys was thinking, nor did he need to know. In fact, when Dragonzel learned what Viserys had told Aegon from the Faceless Man Kungur Potter, he smiled with relief.

"Very good, it seems the descendants of the Targaryen family are quite intelligent. They understand the threat posed by the rise of the Varezes family, the inherent fragility of the Targaryen family itself, and the current imbalance of power between the two sides."

Aegon is also very smart; he knows when to let go. This child is indeed honest. Realizing that neither he nor Rhaegor would threaten his rule, or rather, that they had no interest in his Iron Throne, he decisively chose the safest path—sitting on the Iron Throne obediently, familiarizing himself with governance with Dragonzel's help, until Dragonzel stepped down and returned to his fiefdom.

Aegon had indeed received a lot of good news recently, but also bad news. After Meral Yangyan's companion green dragon hatched, thirteen or fourteen more young dragons hatched successively in Dragon Mountain on Dragonstone over the years. However, Dragon Mountain lacked the management system of the Dragonpit in Dragon Nest City, as well as the Dragonpit in King's Landing, and thus tragedy struck.

Before the Dragon Guard found all the young dragons and brought them back to the Dragon Rearing Courtyard on Dragonstone, these thirteen or fourteen young dragons had been killed, with only two remaining, due to fighting over food and inadvertently entering the territories of Sheepstealer or Seasmoke.

When Aegon heard the former news, he was as happy as a sixteen-year-old boy, but when he heard the latter news, his smile instantly vanished.

If it weren't for the two surviving dragons that also hatched in the Dragonpit, Aegon and Viserys would probably have cried on the spot.

"Your Highness," the Grand Steward Ammor stood behind the somewhat dazed Dragonzel, reminding his lord, "The three newborn dragon whelps need names. They are all very strong."

Dragonzel exhaled softly and pushed open the door to the Dragon Rearing Conservatory. In the past few years, Dragonzel had adjusted the magical rituals that affected the entire Dragon Nest City and the Dragonpit, allowing the magic of the Red Mountains to more precisely nurture the new life within the dragon eggs.

Thus, in these few years, only three dragon eggs hatched. The last dark green dragon egg with silver patterns from the Valyrian Ruins hatched a strong young dragon at the end of 133 Conquest Era. A light blue dragon egg interwoven with silver-white cloud patterns produced by Zhuohuo, and a golden dragon egg from Silverwing, hatched successively in 135 Conquest Era.

Dragonzel was not in a hurry to let them enter the Dragonpit; instead, he prepared to observe whether these three young dragons would exhibit the peculiar interactions seen between Igaras and Sarafasas. After all, interactions between young dragons are more valuable for research than those between adult dragons, and can better reflect potential biological relationships between dragons.

Ray was very interested in these.

However, it was a pity that these three young dragons had spent over a year together without sparking the Igaras and Sarafasas-like interactions. Instead, they frequently fought each other, though no bloodshed occurred under Ray's supervision. The fiercest of the young dragons even established an order similar to that of the Dragonpit within this small Dragon Rearing Conservatory.

The eldest must eat first, but of course, the eldest would not let the younger ones starve. After all, the Silver Guards would always prepare enough food—nonsense, who would dare not prepare enough food for dragons, especially after that little dragon learned to breathe fire? Who would dare starve them? They would just spray dragonflame directly.

Two Silver Guards had already died because of this.

"Roar~"

As soon as he pushed open the conservatory door, Dragonzel heard the roar of that unbelievably ferocious young dragon. Dragonzel couldn't help but nod. It seemed that after suffering a bit last time, that young dragon had learned its lesson and knew not to easily provoke him. Otherwise, if it had pounced directly and taken a blood magic hit like last time, it would have seemed too foolish. What relieved Dragonzel was that this young dragon was not foolish. "Do not approach. Dangerous kin. Bite."

If Dragonzel hadn't guessed wrong, the roar of the young dragon hanging upside down from the beam should have meant this.

"Quiet, come down." A hint of blood red flashed in Dragonzel's deep purple eyes. The young dragon shook its head vigorously. Although it still let out a meaningless roar of defiance, it obediently climbed down from the beam, allowing Dragonzel to see it clearly.

It was a dark green dragon, but from its jaw to its belly, it was a slightly dull silver-white. Its slightly upturned, sharp scales resembled both blades and leaves; with careful observation, one could even see vein-like patterns on the scales. Its crocodile-like dragon head was covered in dense, horny scales and strange patterns. Without even looking, one could imagine the countless knife-sharp teeth in the young dragon's pointed mouth.

The young dragon's horns were exceptionally large, like a pair of giant moose antlers, or two weirwood trees. Its neck was neatly lined with sharp spikes, and when the young dragon spread its wings, Dragonzel could even see magnificent, beautiful patterns on its membrane wings, like those of a butterfly.

The young dragon had a strong, slender tail, the end of which also resembled a butterfly with open wings, forming a pair of sharp, thick tail fins, or rather, a "tail hammer." Dragonzel could imagine how fierce this young dragon, which had just hatched and couldn't even breathe fire yet, but could injure a dozen heavily armored Silver Guards wielding spears, would become when it grew up.

"Syrax." Dragonzel looked at the vigilant young dragon, couldn't help but smile with relief. The more dragons the Varezes had, and the stronger they were, the happier he became. This proved the vigorous vitality of the Varezes family and the continuation of magic. "Ammor, note this down. The name of this fierce little fellow is Syrax, which in Ancient Valyrian means 'Fierce Beast of the Forest'."

"Understood, Your Highness." Ammor faithfully noted Dragonzel's naming in his notebook.

The silver-haired prince surveyed the room. The two younger dragons had been thoroughly subdued by Syrax. One was now hiding in a tree hollow that simulated a natural environment in the conservatory, and the other was hiding in a cave that mimicked a mountain cave nearby, both cautiously peeking out.

Dragonzel pointed to the light blue young dragon hiding in the tree hollow.

To be honest, based purely on appearance, one might assume this light blue young dragon was the fiercest.

However, in reality, among this batch of three young dragons, this one with an eagle-like head, spiky horns covering its head, and a fierce expression, was actually the most gentle.

This added another entry to Ray's notes.

Don't judge a dragon by its cover.
